Oh, nice! I recently completed this WAD on stream and found it to be quite fun and well-balanced. The ammo isn't really tight, but the mapper continually impressed me with their ability to give you *just the right amount*. Several times I thought they gave me more than I needed, but then an area would get reused for another fight or two and it would pretty much all get used.
One thing that I've noticed in these big maps is the lack of any secrets. The UV Max seems a little incomplete without secrets. Holy Hell had one secret (one small room with four invulnerabilities) so I always think a designer should always add one
As I will mention later in this series, secrets have no place in giga-slaughter maps by nature. Otherwise, imagine Okuplok had 5 secrets. You find 4 of them as you go for the final fight, 8 hours in. You beat the final fight and are victorious! But, there's 1 secret left behind. Is it at the end? No. Is it back at the very beginning? You don't know. Have fun exploring 8 hours worth of an empty map to find out... TL;DR: Never put secrets in giga-slaughter.
And at the same, has much more of an actual level design. antares031 is probably my number one favorite mapper, but that one was... experimental for sure.
@@TheWolfgangGrimmer idk, I love how in eclipse you get to kill like 8K+ monster and then the map ends with one single giant 32K+ monster fight. It's pretty unique in it's excess.
Ahh, Cosmogenesis... Remembered doing a nomo pack for it and MAP05 alone took 33 minutes to beat, and the D2ALL is 1h06min since I had to basically play the whole map twice... I also remembered failing a run in a section somewhere later in MAP05, *55 minutes* into the D2ALL, but at least I got some decent-ish times (but it could be improved of course)
This was my favorite map of cosmogenesis. I think I resorted to using god mode to get through it. I'm looking forward to seeing you tackle the rest of this crazy map.
For really intense slaughter like this, I recommend playing with Dakka. Really fun weapons that are still pretty balanced, and the score system gives you a resurrect once in a while so if you make a mistake it's not the end of the world. How I got through most of Sunder...
Nearly twice the monster count of Profane Promiseland and over three times the monster count of Okuplok. Build mode is near impossible for me to use in Profane Promiseland already, this might make it impossible.
@@coincident gotta respect the "keep the audience wanting more" Bravo 👏 👏 It worked to because as soon as I saw the next part in my feed, I immediately watched it lol
Bigger and better than Deus Vult and Holy Hell combined. on top of that, the extremely rare few maps out there with a higher enemy count than Cosmogenesis are all overtly gag and/or troll maps. I cant imagine this one will be bested in its own sub-genre anytime soon. Incidentally, NoReason is also the author of one of the best Sunder clones out there in the form of Death in Excess.
That's a nice Sunday afternoon map 😅 Spam that BFG boy! Really hard to make huge open spaces/rooms etc look beautifully and fun. Always a bit of a struggle.
As in an actual demo? There are none to this day, so I'm kind of intrigued at who will be the first to pull it off if someone ever does. As far as just beating the map, this is Twitch footage, so he likely already has.
This is an insane map man! I`m trying to open the .wad file with glboom+ but sound does not work, only if I use prboom+, but the video quality is lower. Somebody knows what I'm doing wrong?
Coincident, how you can play this without any lag? I played a game in Woof source port in Map...04 of Junkfood 2? Well Map 4 or 5... There is a lvl that has 10k enemies in a wide area. However its not unplayable, but its gets a bit laggy. How can i play a map like this without lag? I havent try it out yet...but its there a secret to play doom without lag?
@@coincident hope you'll have the time to check it out some day... Also those Okuplok analysis were super fun to watch! Hope you'll continue this "series" in the future.
Okuplok became a completed project when a yt beat it without saves.ypu wouldnt know him tho im pretty sure lol Edit: i wish people woupd make some crazy slaughter wads on doom II for the xbox one and ps5 releases of this game. Currently btsx Ep II lvl 31 is like the best we got and its under 1300 enemies sadly.
That's because all the selected WADs for that require either .EXE or limit removing compatibility. It took them long enough to extend options to the latter, so I wouldn't bet on Boom and its offpsring happening any time soon.
I sent this map to my friend as a joke since he was playing it on GZDoom and Zandronum usually, so I asked him if it was playable then we do Co-op but nah he got like 1-2 fps lol
The goal is for this to be the opening title/thumbnail for the series, which will be used for the playlist of the entire map; this is especially important because I cannot upload custom thumbnails for playlists on RUclips. So this is the "book cover" if you will. I understand you wanting the "part #" to be present, but that doesn't make the rest of the title "misleading".
You could make an intro video for the series playlist separately then. It is misleading since it is not complete, we didn't get the entire map just a small part of it. You know how people binge tv shows since they hate cliffhangers, or hate having open ended stories? They wait for a season to be over then watch it at once? You've never wanted to watch a video about a subject, chose it due to a time budget, then learn that was part 1 of 20 and you need to budget 5 more hours sometime in the future? Both of those feel bad man.@@coincident
An intro video is actually a good idea; maybe something like a teaser/trailer! I couldn't have done it until now because it was a blind playthrough, but maybe later I can make one. However, incomplete and misleading are very different concepts. Nothing about the title is untrue, so it's not misleading. And the playlist is only incomplete right now because I still didn't play through the whole map. In the future the playlist will be complete, but please give me some time to get it done. I'm putting a lot of hard work into this channel and I'm doing it solo so these things take time. I don't really understand the hate for cliffhangers or open ended stories. Personally I don't mind them, I never binge anything or wait for seasons to be over. I don't feel bad if I find that an episode is only part 1 of 20; I actually feel great about it, if I enjoyed part 1. Thinking about Better Call Saul, the most recent series I watched: I personally enjoy having to wait 1 week for the next episode to come out. It gives me waiting time to process the cliff-hanger and theory-craft ideas in my head about what's going to happen next and talk about it with my friends as I get more and more excited about the next episode, over time. In the case of Cosmogenesis I'm trying to make people wait not much more than 1 day for the next episode. But keep in mind I have limited time to invest in editing and everything else; I wish I had the production power of Hollywood... Anyway, I understand that not everyone is like me. Some people prefer to wait and binge the whole thing. I get it (even if I don't "feel" it). I'll think about this subject some more. Thanks for the feedback @Mosz ! It's always productive to discuss conflicting points of view :)

With boom compatibility settings? Nope. The limit is the framerate that your machine can handle.

both
