A little tip for keeping your XP farm dark is something I learned when making my accidental drowned XP farm. Which is that amethyst geodes are great to use for your permanent skeleton farm. Because getting stained glass means you can keep the area around the spawned lit up outside the farm while the inside is still dark.

Yet again, Bedrock has some slight differences: Spawners on Bedrock only spawn mobs up to a "taxicab" distance of 4 blocks away: that is, 4 blocks away in straight lines, but with the ends of those lines connected diagonally to form a diamond shape. The one block above and below rule still applies. You can't currently (i.e. in 1.20.0) sneak under slabs on Bedrock, but that should be changing soon.

I usually go the water elevator route, but I really like the lava burner setup. You don't need soul sand and it's more compact. Gonna give this one a go in my world
I haven't seen all of your videos but I have watched many videos by many creators and this is the first time I have ever seen a mob farm done like this! Definitely going to have to try it out.
Hey Pix, on the edge where the water stops at the 2 gap drop, if you replace the last row under the water with stairs, the mobs wont get caught on the edge. (they sometimes hang up on the edges in my experience). also if you put an armor stand next to the spot where the mobs are, and if you attack the armor stand (with sweeping edge) it will kill the mobs in the spot next to the armor stand, applying the effects of your sword, and the sword will not take damage when attacking the armor stand.
For greater efficiency, the initial spawning room should be 9x9x9. That is the region the spawner will produce skeletons. But there is a maximum number of mobs that can be inside that area before the spawner turns itself 'off' until some leave the region. To get around that restriction, once you've dug out the 9x9x9 area centered on the spawner, dig the chamber 2 blocks lower. That way when skeleton's spawn they drop outside of the region and their numbers don't count towards the spawning limit, and you produce more mobs.
The spawning region is 9x3x9, and the spawner will take a minimum of 10 seconds before it checks a 9x9x9 area and attempts to spawn more skeletons. The water will easily clear them within that time, so there's no reason to dig it out any deeper than that.
@@Pixlriffs The presence checking area is 9x9x9, though, and the mob limit is 6 for the spawned type. That's why some people recommend leaving 6 blocks of space below the spawner, as mobs can sometimes take more time to clear the area than the spawner's random delay, which is roughly between 10 and 40 seconds.
This is far more fun to see then the drop shoot style farm. And no need for early game nether stuff.thanks for this one Pixel I will be making it in my own world as well.
I don’t usually do mob farms bc I struggle with making them but this tutorial was actually really helpful and easy for me to make thanks for sharing it
As a suggestion for dealing with zombies spawning on top of spawners (it wont work for skeletons due to them having ranged attacks) instead of blocking the top of the spawner with a slab which cuts down spawn area more than you think. I would suggest a snow golem. all you have to do is is make a small peep hole at the same level as the block above the spawner inside the walls of your farm. just cage the golem in and it will shoot zombies off the spawner. Basically the block your golem stands on should be the same y level -1 as your spawner. This is very cheap you just need a shovel to get snow which you have shown in the series and a carved pumpkin head. leaving this block open for spawns above the spawner increases spawn rate due to spawners not actually spawning mobs in the middle of a block but anywhere where there is open air as long as the zombie's hit box is not colliding with a block, this means with a slab you're not blocking off 1 spawn but the entire area of the block for spawns to occur.
It's a good idea to put blocks above the spawner to prevent any spawns on top of the spawner itself. If a mob spawns there it will stay there and slow your rates slightly. Edit: Addressed at 19:35
I'm back after making this xp farm in my own world... found a skeleton spawner not too far from home, though it's located at -20 or so... quite a trip down. Had to block off my ladder as it passed through caves three times! A nice build. I like the glass blocks so we can watch the skellies burn after you hit them. Gotta get used to the dance on the pressure plate to turn it off and on. But this was satisfying, and not too hard--worked correctly the first time through! Next up, decorating the place and making it nice.
I forgot just how breakneck your pace of episode release is for the survival guides. You're a goddamn high quality video machine! A machine, i tells ya!
Just finished my own skeleton spawner farm (and perhaps the first spawner farm I've ever made). Works like a charm! Just need to remember some mobs will spawn with enchanted armor. I got a good spook when a skeleton with Thorns showed up. I thought I got hit by one of them even though I was sure I had set it up right.
You can use dripstone spikes and make the skeletons or zombies to fall down from a height of 11 or 12 block to kill them with a single hit; it's a little bit easier to build if you're lazy like me! (or if you're scared of redstone)
Last skeleton/xp farm setup I made involved a water slide and a soul campfire at the bottom, with hoppers and chests to collect what I wanted... and a simple lava disposal pit to the side for things I didn't. I like this setup though, and may try it in my current world. I've found a few monster spawners in the unreasonably large cave system under my home.
I had to slow the speed down to .75 to follow what you were doing with the redstone :) I've never seen that contraption before! A good way to kill them with just one swipe without having to make a drop shaft! Speaking of drop shafts, that 1x1 water block in the floor under the hole is kind of dangerous, if you are at all off-center, you'll hit the edge and die (I've seen 2 hard-core players die that way on their streams). I always put a water block 3 blocks above the floor. That way your fall distance is reset when you hit that water and you land on the floor with no damage and no worries about landing exactly in the right spot.
@19:59 I like to include a redstone lamp setup in the ceiling, above the slab so that at any point I can turn on/off the spawner without having to go back inside the chamber. But that would be more advanced redstone than Pixlriffs probably wants to cover right now.
@@Pixlriffs agreed... The Nether can be hazardous at the beginning, especially depending on which biome you get at the portal. Unfortunately for me, it was a bit rough as I got "lucky" to have a basalt delta as my initial foray into the nether in my new 1.20 world.
@@Pixlriffs could using a redstone torch as a light source work temporarily? sending power to the lit torch would turn the torch off and power the spawner.
That's a pretty cool design to weaken the skeletons without soul sand. I have thought about a similar concept, but I thought your hit had to be the final blow for it to count as your kill. Thanks for the new info!
Just want to say thank you. Ive been playing for 147 hours now destroyed my first spawner coz i didnt know as im new yes im 38 play it coz of my kids but now 147 hours in amd enjoying it lol but the first couple i tried took ages and never got it to work this 1 is perfect for someone like me liked and subscribed because of this 👌👌
I usually don't bother making the trenches 2 blocks deep. I just go with one block. The majority of mobs won't even be able to jump out because they're in water. The only real issue is that they might push other mobs to prevent them from falling in, but there's no way one spawner will put out enough mobs to make that happen.
We've been playing with my son for 1.5 years, and Pixelriffs is an absolute reference : informative, the builds work, and it's a goldmine of knowledge about the game itself. Many many thanks ! Btw : would you consider enabling the "thanks" feature in RUclips ?
Out of the skeleton, spider, and zombie xp farms. The skeleton is definitely the most useful. Bones, arrows, bows, and potentially enchanted armor for extra experience points is definitely useful
Great video, awsome farm! Consider the idea maybe in the future auto farming xp and loot with the help of wolves? Wolf? Also there's an old ilmango's video showing how you can increase the spawn rates by about 5 or 10%, not with a slab on top of the spawner but with a dropper and some fence gates, but that's maybe too much to ask for a early game player. Keep up the good vibes!
Yeah, I didn’t want to overcomplicate things with the fence gate setup - but to be honest, this farm is productive enough for now anyway. We might talk about wolves later, but if skeletons spawn with thorns armour they can eventually deal enough damage to kill the wolves - so wolves are better for automation in wither skeleton farms, where the skellies never spawn with armour.
Hi, Pixilriffs. Thank you for the tutorial. I've been looking for a way to fix my existing skeleton farm. This is exactly what I needed. Keep up the awesome work. And, take care. o/
Nice build and a classic lava design. I built something similar with the skeleton spawners deeper in that cave system, but very nearby the house build. For the Spider example, go exploring the caves on that Cherry Grove Mountain, you'll be surprised what is literally sitting in view.
Hey @pixlriffs, you're going to need to go back to the skelly farm and replace the wood with stone - proximity to the lava keeps catching it on fire breaking the Redstone.
Just yesterday I found a skele spawner and I thought, I'll make a farm, pretty sure I know how, I wake up and see the notification, thank you pix, it's as if it was meant to be
I wish he would slow down just a little bit, his previous survival guides were way easier to follow as far as listening and watching goes. There’s like to many scene cuts. I love these videos though, they get me through my work days although I will go back to watching his older ones
For those who don’t want to do all the red stone or don’t have any. Just make them fall five blocks and make a lava thing with signs so when the fall 5 blocks they will hit the lava and fall to the place where you kill them and they will be at about 2-3 hearts which is enough for every sword in the game or you can even do it with your fist
Wow... that's a lot of instructions. I'll rewatch this when I'm ready for my skeleton xp farm. :-) My grandson built an xp farm way back years ago. It was a blaze - it was really neat. I am slow when it comes to the red stone. LOL I'm gonna make one of these though.
Putting a slab on top of the spawner doesn’t actually prevent spawning and you’ll still get some on top of the spawner in my experience. I recommend putting toe blocks on top instead
Hey since you're on season 3 of these tutorial let's plays can you make season 4 a bedrock centered series that focuses on differences in mechanics between the 2 versions of the game? It's not to much of a deal early game but some stuff gets technical later so it'd be good to have that reference.
I love your videos, and I'm excited to see what you build for the farm! I've used the same farm since 1.13, so I wonder if you're going to use that*, or a new design! Maybe one that uses newer blocks, like dripstone? Edit: *nope! The farm I use uses a soul sand bubble elevator to lift mobs, then drop them to make them only need one hit after fall damage. BUT, I like this design Way more!! I honestly hated building the bubble column, so this is great!

This is far more fun to see then the drop shoot style farm. And no need for early game nether stuff.thanks for this one Pixel I will be making it in my own world as well.
First episode in a long time where he doesn’t hope we are all having a good day 😢
Great video, I'm really enjoying the new series! I'd love to hear you do short descriptions of how this thing works alongside the build how-to.
You upload at 5am my time so when i wake up i can start watching
Whoa! That’s a very cool skeleton system! I’ve been playing for 10+ years and never thought to do something like this. Thank you for the idea! ❤☠️
Thanks for your video. This was my first redstone machine. I had a sense of accomplishment afterwards.
I don’t usually do mob farms bc I struggle with making them but this tutorial was actually really helpful and easy for me to make thanks for sharing it
i just found a smelly spawner yesterday and i needed a good tutorial for it lol
perfect timing, Pix!
Edit: Addressed at 19:35
The rapid jump cuts are new. I don't hate them. But feels fast for pixlriffs
Yeah I agree but the video might be longer. Sometimes I'm like wait, what did he do?
Nice and compact design. Will definitely use this! Love seeing redstone builds being explained like this!
Happy to be binging these after the update!
Excellent tutorial! Those diamond finds were insane
I like your videos so much. Straight proper instructions no wondering around, keep up the good work! Subscribed 🎉
Best voice on RUclips....love your videos
loving this series :D
Hello 😊😊
You can use dripstone spikes and make the skeletons or zombies to fall down from a height of 11 or 12 block to kill them with a single hit; it's a little bit easier to build if you're lazy like me! (or if you're scared of redstone)
Seriously, you do such a great job of explaining everything involved in what you're doing! PSJr would be proud Im sure :) Keep up the great work! :)
Yaaaay! Thanks for the video! Love your content since Minecraft Survival Guide Season 2! 🙂
The lava thing is brilliant!!
I would normally have done that too, but I don’t have access to glowstone until I trade with villagers or go to the Nether!
This is a really interesting design. I haven't found a skeleton spawner yet but when I eventually do I think this will be the way to go.
That's a pretty cool design to weaken the skeletons without soul sand. I have thought about a similar concept, but I thought your hit had to be the final blow for it to count as your kill. Thanks for the new info!
Just want to say thank you. Ive been playing for 147 hours now destroyed my first spawner coz i didnt know as im new yes im 38 play it coz of my kids but now 147 hours in amd enjoying it lol but the first couple i tried took ages and never got it to work this 1 is perfect for someone like me liked and subscribed because of this 👌👌
thank you so much for this video, genuinely helped me with my "Skelefarm" in my Grand World
I've made a skeleton spawner farm before but the lava and the slab on the spawner are definitely things I'll have to try to make mine more efficient!
I love these constant uploads although I understand they might be a toll on you since you are on 3 series. ❤❤❤
Gday. I've had some success with putting pointed dripstone that they fall on. It does damage and will stop zombie kids too. Love your vids
I will definetly try that redstone contraption to one hit skeletons in my spawner! Awesome vid pix!
Thanks so much@@Pixlriffs !
Hey @pixlriffs, you're going to need to go back to the skelly farm and replace the wood with stone - proximity to the lava keeps catching it on fire breaking the Redstone.
oH so good ! You always manage to explain things so that I understand. I will definitely try this !
Just yesterday I found a skele spawner and I thought, I'll make a farm, pretty sure I know how, I wake up and see the notification, thank you pix, it's as if it was meant to be
I have to build this. It looks perfect. Can't wait for the next episode.
Yep, I was considering a bubble elevator for this one, but then realised I was saving my first trip to the Nether until tomorrow's episode!
@@Pixlriffs By the way, Thanks for putting the Redstone in a downloadable world. I'm preparing to build it now!
