Interesting random fact: the leading demographers of the TsUNKHU (Central Statistical Office of the USSR) were shot after Stalin disliked the results of the 1937 census which showed large population losses from starvation compared to the estimated number. As a result, no one knew at all how many people lived in the Soviet Union until the mid-1950s. (from Wikipedia)

I like your content even though I feel like you don't ask more prodding questions like:
*WHY do most of the ex soviet block countries choose to move toward the west rather than to be a Russia puppet state?
*WHY is the entire planet against Russia, with Russia's only allies being the 3 other authoritarian regimes that are mostly despised across the world? (China, North Korea, Iran) (The governments are despised, not the people)
*WHY does Putin get to stay in power past his term?
*WHY do Finland and Sweden want to join NATO now?
*WHY is there a massive mobilization for a "limited special military operation?
*WHY does Russia imprison people for expressing their opinion?
*WHY have the Russian people's lives not improved to the standards of the "the evil west"?
I want ordinary Russians and Russian state simps to answer those. That said, I really love how you always recommend other people's channels. That needs to be more of a thing on RUclips. People need to be nicer to each other, regardless of nationality or ethnicity.

      Comment:
"When all responses are combined in my head, I hear, ' Whether I support him or not does not really matter under our system of government.' "
      Reply:
Yeah it is pretty much the consensus that has developed in our society.
I don't think it's completely true, but as for now it's not very far from it. I don't support putin purely because I think it's a morally right thing to do, but now I don't see anything I could do that would be effective enough, given all the risks (the most I can is to try to convince people that are close to me).
I also believe that this situation can change drastically at the most unexpected moment, and we should be prepared for it. It's important (arguably the most important) to not let another dictator in after this one ends.
Also keep in mind that these 32 people that didn't answer are divided between those who actually don't support him but are afraid to say it to the stranger with a camera and those who really don't care, but can easily change position when time comes. And many of those who support him can be dragged into the doubting group.
So in reality I think there are about as many people that support him as there are those who don't, give or take like 5% (urban population is more important here). And the opposition tends to be younger, so we have a natural advantage in the long run.

I was cheered by how many young people (and a few older) clearly did not support what Putin is doing. More optimistic than your last vid, but horribly sad that so many are afraid to express an opinion. Do Russians generally realize that in most of the West (I'm in Australia) this is completely different? I also noted that many assume a "strong man" is the only viable kind of leadership for the country. A dangerous assumption!

Those who are scared to answer do know it's different in other countries. The belief that a country has to have a strong authoritarian leader derives from the state of Russia in 90s: complete poverty, massive corruption and gang violence everywhere. It should also be noted that this exact image of Russia's past was and is being pushed by the state media for the past 20 years, even by mr. president himself: comparing the "then" to "now" and exaggerating the horrors of the first, while giving credit for all the improvements only to president and his strength, disregarding all the other factors.

When communism fell, there was huge spike in crime. In all post communistic countries. The difference between Russian and the rest of those countries is that the other countries were democratic before. So the crime decreased a lot after few years in other countries. Russian changed from feudalism to dictatorship. Putin strengthened police and other force and decreased crime rate. He established rule: you let us rule and we wont mess with your lives.
Russians dont know how to live in democracy. They are used that someone tells them what to do, what to think. They are unable to be responsible for their own life. That is why you hear all the time: we are one coutry, one nation.
