    MJ was a master of the fundamentals. Great footwork and exceptional quickness. There is a reason many regard him as the GOAT. The combination of athleticism and mastery of the fundamentals was deadly.

    • @Daveyboy_GolfR
      @Daveyboy_GolfR Год назад +8

      So many variables that make MJ the GOAT all by themselves, untouchable all-time records, statistics, trophies, achievements, Chips, fundamentals, competitiveness, work ethic, and pure talent, and he's officially the Greatest of all the GOAT (in team sports and arguably all sports...
      Let's look at the 87-88 season and what he REALLY accomplished in his third full season... People really have no clue and only discuss the fact that he was
      -the Scoring Champ (35ppg)
      -Defensive Player of the Year.
      But he was also
      -Regular Season League MVP
      -Regular Season Steals Leader
      -Regular Season Total Points Leader -All-NBA First Team honors
      -All-NBA Defensive First Team honors
      -Playoff PPG leader (36.3)
      -Starting All Star
      -All-Star game MVP
      -Slam Dunk Contest Winner
      -Only player to ever have 200+ Steals and 100+ blocks in a season.
      What he accomplished in that one season, not even the second greatest player of all time (whether you want to call it him LeBron, Kareem, Russell, Magic, Kobe etc) have never accomplished all those feats throughout their entire careers, let alone all in one season like MJ did. No one has even won Scoring Title and DPOY in the same year.
      No one's ever been League MVP and steals leader in the same season.
      No one's ever been scoring champ and steals leader.
      No one's ever been League MVP and defensive player of the year except (Hakeem a few years later).
      And that's why there is no doubt, not even the slightest, that Michael Jordan is so far above any other player in NBA history. That's just one example.

    • @robX931
      @robX931 Год назад +5

      @@Daveyboy_GolfR Your points are valid. I actually rank MJ as the GOAT. I grew up about 2 hours from Chicago and watched the Bulls more than anything else as a kid and teenager. He's my GOAT. But there are arguments to be made for Wilt, Russell, Bron and Kareem as all being the GOAT. But certainly MJ is the best non big ever and I believe the best ever.

    • @Daveyboy_GolfR
      @Daveyboy_GolfR Год назад +4

      @@robX931 absolutely.. everyone is entitled to their opinion about to the greatest of all time is. But the general consensus from players, fans, ex players, coaches, analysts etc is that if we had to choose, MJ would be the one.
      But I will say it is very difficult to compare someone like MJ to Hakeem, who I personally believe to be the greatest technical big of all time. Sure if you gave him Wilts atlanticism and almost 50 in vertical then he would have surely averaged 50/25 and 7-8 BPG in a season.
      However when it comes down to it, each of the players you mentioned have not hit the heights that MJ reached, whether it's statistically or in terms of accolades, records etc, or they have accumulated blunders throughout their career that MJ just has not.
      I'll just give one example. Wilt Chamberlain is by far the most devastating and domineering player the NBA has ever seen. No doubt!
      But his big numbers were short lived, 1959-65 is where he shined. But even throughout those years, even when averaging 50/25 in the early 60s, throughout his 160 playoff games he only averaged 22 PPG, and in his six finals appearances, he 'wilted' averaging 18 PPG.
      Whereas in Jordan's 178 playoff games he has a record 33.6 PPG, and in his six finals appearances, he holds the record for PPG (almost doubling Wilt) with just under 34 PPG.
      Will Chamberlain went 2-6 in those finals and MJ went 6-6. I wonder if Wilt would have put up those type of numbers he was putting up in the regular season in the postseason, maybe they might have won another championship or two.
      That's just one example.
      But again, it does feel completely unnatural to try and compare a center and a 2 guard.
      That's why I usually keep a GOAT and a GOAT Big mutually exclusive, as they played completely different games. But it's very reasonable to compare a two guard and a small forward etc.
      Thanks for your reply 👍

      @robX931 Год назад +1

      @@Daveyboy_GolfR Your post is one of the most reasonable and rationale responses I've received online. Very well stated and I appreciate the stats you provided. Playing devil's advocate Wilt did go against the great Celtics and his teams were entirely outmatched top to bottom. But his numbers do show he indeed "wilted" on the biggest stage. I also agree when it comes to GOAT talks better to go big man and then non big. Hakeem was a beast. I would probably take Kareem. Nobody but Wilt could block the skyhook. Kareem's high school, college and NBA resume is the best of all time, hands down. But MJ's NBA resume is as good if not better.

    When listing an MJ/LeBron comparo, I noticed ppl never include how MJ also DESTROYS Bron in monster highlights(eye test), besides his superior stats/accolades (playin 7 less seasons).

      Right, the eye test screams MJ all day.. he made everything look so easy and beautiful

    • @ernestb4473
      @ernestb4473 Год назад +9

      True. Lebron only has 1 dunk and no real signature moves. It's because he lacks footwork. The Akron Hammer has been done forever. He just does it "bigger" than everybody else.

      @@StrictlyStrange67 YESSSIR..... If you wanna see one of my favorite examples of MJ carrying out an extraordinarily difficult play and making it look seemingly effortless, just watch this clip with his patented Palm fake then dunk on 7'1 Tree Rollins.

    1992 was the first year when I thought Jordan's hops had dropped, but that's because he added even more muscle. He could still get up though, just not as easily as he did in the late 80s
