But the general consensus from players, fans, ex players, coaches, analysts etc is that if we had to choose, MJ would be the one. Sure if you gave him Wilts atlanticism and almost 50 in vertical then he would have surely averaged 50/25 and 7-8 BPG in a season. However when it comes down to it, each of the players you mentioned have not hit the heights that MJ reached, whether it's statistically or in terms of accolades, records etc, or they have accumulated blunders throughout their career that MJ just has not. I'll just give one example. Wilt Chamberlain is by far the most devastating and domineering player the NBA has ever seen. No doubt! But his big numbers were short lived, 1959-65 is where he shined. But even throughout those years, even when averaging 50/25 in the early 60s, throughout his 160 playoff games he only averaged 22 PPG, and in his six finals appearances, he 'wilted' averaging 18 PPG. Whereas in Jordan's 178 playoff games he has a record 33.6 PPG, and in his six finals appearances, he holds the record for PPG (almost doubling Wilt) with just under 34 PPG. Will Chamberlain went 2-6 in those finals and MJ went 6-6. I wonder if Wilt would have put up those type of numbers he was putting up in the regular season in the postseason, maybe they might have won another championship or two. That's just one example. But again, it does feel completely unnatural to try and compare a center and a 2 guard. That's why I usually keep a GOAT and a GOAT Big mutually exclusive, as they played completely different games.
