2019, few months before the lockdown- Friend & I visited the Aqueduct only. I personally like off the beaten path/small town :) hopefully next time. I noticed the coffee maker 10:31, where can I get something like that ?
You guys are great. Please keep the homestyle videos coming. I love learning about real family life in Spain. There are a million videos about the famous sites. When I go to the Basque Country the best part of my visit is spending meal time at home with my friends Josetxo and Aurea and their daughter Nahikari.
Oh man this is so true! My parenti- in laws place in rural Avila is very much like this! The house was literally colder inside than out! We arrived once and the ice was still in the trays in the freezer and it wasn’t even switched on!…and the decor was full of stuff you would see in el rastro!. Although they don’t have any garden there are plenty of hiking trails and walks in beautiful hills, valleys and lakes ! Hope you had a relaxing w/e!❤️
Loved this change of pace! No super historic sites, castles, or travel tips (although i do like all those). Appreciating the country side and deep Spain.
Hello! This is your half American half Canadian fellow here again. This is so interesting what you are showing. This seems like a great tour to me where you show Yolly’s parents’ home and what the city is like in Segovia, Castilla y León. I definitely want to come visit this place. It looks so beautiful. ¡Hola!
I really loved this video! Thank-you! Most of my time in Spain has been spent in that vicinity of Castilla y Leon (Segovia, Valladolid, the tiny village of Castrodeza), mostly in the small town of Medina del Campo and it's environs. That's where the largest animal shelter in Spain is---Protectora y Santuario Scooby. Your descriptions are apt and evocative---the stark and simple beauty of the high, sweeping plateau always seemed to condense life down to the most basic, and meaningful pleasures. I really miss it. So, while I love Madrid, yes, more videos like this, please!.
Loved this video! Yoli's parents' cabin is not so different from the cabins Americans have, a fun collection of "treasures" and I loved seeing the small community with its mesón and the monument to Spain's discovery of the Americas. The slower pace of Spanish village life must be a great getaway from the hustle and bustle of Madrid or other urban areas.
I believe the reason some ornamental cookware is marked as 'souvenir' is so you don't use it for food or drink as the clay isn't guaranteed not to contain lead.
Love the country 🥰 I'm a kiwi as well, living in the mountains in Castillo de Léon and this morning my job is shoveling 50cm of snow❄❄❄🥶 Living the dream💖
What a great idea bringing us all to Segovia with you. It was great to see the memorabilia and get the Royal Tour. Yoli looked cute in the pictures and you both look super relaxed and happy there. Good for you ! And we are so looking forward to more of your fun videos. Please keep them coming!
Ok, so I'm officially addicted to James and Yoly. Being a Spanish teacher here in Ireland I'm a total hispanophile and love love your informative and fun videos ranging from all things relating to Spanish culture, from 'tapas' to 'La Espana profunda' (can't find my written accents here) It made me laugh when you found the 'El Pais' from 1991, the year I went to Galicia for my gap year and ended up there for four more years after I finished my degree.
The best use you can make of El País...light a fire. I loved that It's always nice to have a second home in the campo to disconnect from the city life and to show children what rural life is like and connect with nature. The silence at night, the animals, the green all around,...
James, you're such a Kiwi. In the UK there is a long tradition of bringing home souvenirs from the seaside that all said, "A souvenir of ...." or something similar. They were always tacky, like houses made of tiny seashells but very popular. I loved the seventies feel of the house and Yoly's Dad has great taste in music. The barrels under the stairs reminds me of one in the window of one of your fave bars. I can never get used to how empty so much of Spain feels, especially in contrast to the UK as a small island. A really cool video. Thank you.
Fantastic " hyggelig" video . Love Yoly's family house with all its memory telling and the abcence of stupid new things and furniture when everything still works with charm🙂 not to forget one gets a story about Spain and get the uppertunity to see parts of the country you do not know outside the towns. So thank you so much for your video. Interesting and ready for more, please. Enjoy.😊
Thank you both for this video today. I needed this. This takes me back to when I use to go there for many Christmas holidays during the mid and late 90's. I have many very fond memories of those times. Thanks again, from Southern Ontario, Canada
Loved the place and the home, and by the way, in Argentina we normally drink what you showed at first, Cinzano, Moscatella. Maybe we're in the 70'. And congratulations for your daughter, she's beautiful!
As others have said, every home in the UK will probably have some sort of ornament with 'Greetings from *insert holiday destination*' lying around ...our charity shops are full of them 😉 Great video and what a charming house....love that it probably looks the same as when Yoly was a child.
It's nice to get away from the inner city and I've often been to these small village homes around Spain and there are thousands of villages around Spain like this. The people are usually friendly and talkative which makes a change from neighbours in a block of apartments in central Madrid that go out of their way to avoid one another and not meddle or tread on each others' toes. The problem I have with these villages is the lack of activities and it can get boring after 6 days there. If you can get family and friends to go there to meet up in the village holiday home it can be nice for a change of scene but it's the same experience repeated year after year. I actually prefer experiences in new cities, new towns / beaches / woods / outdoors trekking.
We are an american-spanish couple also with a house in Segovia. In our case to the south of the province, towards Avila. I am 100% sure you drive by our house every time you drive there
this reminds me very much of the holiday home of my ex boydfriend's parents on the costa brava: absolutely freezing in winter and you need to put the mobile gas heater in the bedroom for a few hours before going to bed so you dont freeze during the night and an odd and eclectic mix of cliché spanish touristy stuff and stuff that wasn't good enough anymore for the main house in germany, but not worthy of the bin. love these kinds of places and the calmness of the villages where these places are in the off season.
How lovely and cozy video! I loved how you told those little pieces of the pueblo history. And those records omg!! Bring out memories of my childhood :o) Enjoy your stay!!
Hehe! I was/am a big city dude but during my army service (1994!) I discovered my natural talent for getting the fire going. Hey- I can even do it with wet wood!
You guys are Spain's best ambassadors! Mi wife's family is also from Segovia (Garcillán and Santovenia). We rode our bikes from Santovenia to Marugán and back last summer, with our kids. They loooove spending time in Segovia, especially during the summer!
This is so classic second 'pueblo' home. I didn't know you would go in winter - I thought it was only used in the summer. My grandma's house had a few of those things. I think the barrel was used for sherry (Jerez), hers wasn't a souvenir they poured shot size drinks. Also, the Yoly's craft of the matches is awesome. I have a woodcraft I made with the pueblo post card and then little hooks for keys. I need a pueblo home for that.
Thank you so much for your videos and all the inspiration to travel. I have just come back from Caceres which we chose to visit after watching your video last year. I am now in Spain full time after owing a holiday home near Alicante for 17 years so am looking forward to seeing more of this wonderful country.
My grandfather said that his family was from the canaries. My neighbor was born in ramsgate england. When i was in the merchant marines i walked past her mothers home, went to her families pub and walked through their land 30 years before i met her. You guys are really making your way with your vlog. My mexican neighbor says mexico is getting to dangerous, maybe spain would be better, so romantic.
I love this video. You guys make everything feel inviting! But I really love that you're showing Spain in winter time. That's what REALLY takes me back to living in Spain. Glad you made it back safely too! That snow on the drive back was no joke.
Great video. Really interesting. I love love Yoli, she is so sweet and smiley . Loved seeing the baby, Lucia too. I wanted you to introduce her, but I guess you’ve done that in some earlier videos. Haven’t tuned in to you guys for a while, but love your videos So informative. Ultramarinos was a common word for grocery store when I started learning Spanish, so you can guess that was a long time ago (about 1970) I thought it was a weird word but never questioned it, so thanks for the explanation. “Abastos” was the common word in Venezuela. I still laugh when I think of your video about expressions when you talked about “mirando hacia Cuenca” I like to challenge my friends to guess what it means. It’s always great for a dinner table laugh. I live in the South of Spain, near Ronda and am always interested to learn about all parts of Spain, so “keep em coming”
Great video guys. Yoly your dad has a awesome music collection. I love how so many southern European family's have a simple second home. James be a good son in law and change the awful fluorescent lighting in the kitchen, why do so many Spanish houses have this!
We have a place in Spain in Cabo Roig , I know it’s probably not very authentic Spain but we love it , we finally managed to get there in September and on the drive back to Bilbao stayed in a place called Cuenca the most amazing place I’ve seen
Y me encanta tambien Espana profunda.✌️🇪🇸🏡 You guys are fun to watch and of course it tastes like chicken. Doesn't everything? 😉😁🙃 Pero la fabada... did you really, really have to call it a "stew"? 😯🤣🤫
Muy interesante el vídeo. Conozco el lugar , Marugan. He comprado en el super , porque tengo familia que vive en la zona . En verano es una maravilla. Sin calor por la tarde noche. La bebé está enorme😁🤗
LOVED the ultramarino as a lover of history I can just imagine the villagers going crazy over products coming from across the ocean. As a Mexican American with a conquistadors last name I always sit and wonder.
No me puedo creer que en el tiempo que no he podido ver vuestros videos hayáis tenido un bebecito. Muchísimas felicidades, ya decía yo que tanto confinamiento.😂😆🤣😘🥰
Wow this was so beautiful! To see y'alls other videos adventures with only y'all two! And now to see 3rd one with BBY Lucia! It's so beautiful! 😭🙏❤️❤️ Thanks for the recipe ! Honestly this kind of videos shows people from around the world the different side of Spain . I love y'all so much from Texas! Dios los bendiga siempre! Gracias! 🇺🇲🇲🇽🇪🇸❤️
Did you enjoy this video about a more off-the-beaten-path part of Spain? Would you want more videos like this?
2019, few months before the lockdown- Friend & I visited the Aqueduct only. I personally like off the beaten path/small town :) hopefully next time. I noticed the coffee maker 10:31, where can I get something like that ?
Yes, please! Great to see something other than the cities. Would love to see any forested parts of Spain.
You guys are great. Please keep the homestyle videos coming. I love learning about real family life in Spain. There are a million videos about the famous sites. When I go to the Basque Country the best part of my visit is spending meal time at home with my friends Josetxo and Aurea and their daughter Nahikari.
YES
Yes, please. Next one: Basque country😬
It will be amazing for Lucía to grow up bilingual with English from James and Spanish from Yoly! Such a gift to have in today's International world...
Life rarely gets better when it unfolds around a fireplace in the woods

Muy bien ! Fabada is such good winter food. It's good to see Spain outside the city

Thank you for sharing your holiday home in the country. What a delight!
Glad you enjoyed it Barbara!
I've been following your channel for 3 years. This is the first video I see with your baby girl and I love it so much more.
It's all beautiful in Spain. I don't mind a quiet pace every now and then. Enjoy your quiet moment.
I believe the reason some ornamental cookware is marked as 'souvenir' is so you don't use it for food or drink as the clay isn't guaranteed not to contain lead.

Really enjoyed the trip to Yoli's parents getaway. I always enjoy all the excursions you have shared, so yes please, love to see more! Thank you
Fantastic dacha! Really love the vinyl collection!
Cheers Phil!
Toledo!!💗💗💗💗 Studied there in ‘91. Last visit in ‘96. Loved the tour and trip down memory lane.

That fire wood basket is actually a bread kneading bowl, and it’s lovely!
Auténtico, auténtico! 😄😄👏👏👏 Me ha gustado mucho, me ha recordado mi infancia. Y pin y pon!! 🤩😄😄
Looks like a fantastic little place, Reminds me of Scotland. Hope you all had a great break.
Very well done. A nice tour of la vida de Segovia .

Not so classic. And that is not a pueblo but a "urbanización" from the 80's.

Loved this video. Brought back memories of January's spent in rural Castille La Mancha.
Januaries.
I’m American, my wife is Española, and her family’s second home is in Soria. So, I especially enjoy this video since I can totally relate.
Wowww how cool!!! Loved the video 📹 ❤ 👌
Really cool video which must be passed on to your children. Love the souvenirs 👍👍.
Nice to see this, my mother was born in Carbonero el Mayor, around 40 km from here. I also spent some holidays in Los Ángeles de San Rafael.
We have a place in Spain in Cabo Roig , I know it’s probably not very authentic Spain but we love it , we finally managed to get there in September and on the drive back to Bilbao stayed in a place called Cuenca the most amazing place I’ve seen
There's a beautiful region of Picos de Europa in there. Mountains and motorcycling roads.
