Thanks Rob. Those Bix gas burners are great, a bit on the pricey side but well worth having a selection of sizes for different size boilers. Cheers, Alan.
@@RetroSteamTech Yes. Plenty of adjustable heat really helps with steam. The trouble with metho is that it's a rather "cool" flame as I understand it. Cheers Rob
@@Xynudu Gas tends to burn really clean so no soot deposit on the boiler. Plus it's a lot safer than a spirit burner, if you knock the burner you don't get burning meths all over the place. Don't ask me how I know this!! Cheers, Alan.
@@RetroSteamTech I have a real soft spot for Weeden's and really enjoy the history of the company. Like you all my Weeden's have come from the US, lucky mate to get one in the UK !!!
Yes, generally Weeden smokestacks were made from rolled thin sheet so they usually have a split where the sheet meets. Glad you got yours running. The flywheels are made from cast white metal and are very fragile, I have several Weedens that have spokes missing from the flywheels.
@@RetroSteamTech Yep, understood about the stacks & flywheels, I have a few older ones. I meant that the stack separates where it meets the boiler, the older ones I have don't do this. I expect NP the quality suffered but my stack may have had a rough life too. Though that isn't to say Weeden's had the best quality (or robust) in the first place!
@@RichardW-III It would appear that your stack is slightly different from mine. Mine has a ring at the base of the stack which stops the seam from separating.
@@RetroSteamTech Ah I see that now, I totally missed that. Though other No. 500s I don't see that ring at the bottom, mystery I guess. I suppose I rather have a ill fitting stack than none at all. 🙂
I do like this engine Alan. Thanks for sharing and running it for us. Very satisfying you're obviously pleased with it. Cheers Nobby
Thanks. It was nice to find one in the UK for a change.
Really good Alan. Interesting unit. That gas burner helps a lot. Cheers Rob

Nice find Alan
Thanks Jim. Lucky to find any Weeden over here let alone one like this. Cheers, Alan.

I live close to the factory they were made.
Sadly my weeden 43 is on its final stand before it is retired from service.
Thanks. Sorry to hear about your 43 though 😢
Lovely running, and great to see it run so slowly. Well done on such a great find. 👏👏👍😀

Thanks Kev. This one was a puzzler, I just couldn't figure out what it was. Cheers, Alan.
I just got a #500 running and I guess the stack on mine is original, I see yours splits at the bottom too.
