Just returned from a two week family holiday to northern ireland. Naturally i did some fishing over there. Some fantastic roach fishing on some local loughs and on the river quoile. Average was 3 fish to the pound. Best trip was to the upper lough erne system. 45lb of quality roach and hybrids averaging two to the pound on pole fished casters. A superb session.
Now back to the dorset stour. I may try the tidal parts as they will have some flow and depth. It seems like a very slow start to roach fishing on there this season. I only caught a couple of very small roach amongst many chublets

Hi Mark, I’ve just started following you on you tube and you seem to be fishing regularly on the upper Stour? Can you tell me whereabouts please. Looks like a nice place to fish. Thanks

I have access to a number of stretches of the Stour from Blandford upstream, with waters controlled variously by Gillingham AC, Sturminster AA, Dorchester DAA, Ringwood DAA and Blandford AC. All have some lovely waters and as I found that specifying waters can sometimes lead to poaching or overfishing I tend to keep it vague. If I tell everyone where I am then I will struggle to find anywhere that's quiet to film. Someone put out a film a while back and made it very obvious where it was and it was poached for a while.

Lovely chub Mark, probably needs a bit of rain to give you a bit more flow. Do miss fishing the Dorset Stour use to enjoy Havilands 👍

Normally there's a diatom bloom in mid June and then the river clears by early July but rain and hot weather has changed this and the river seems to be retaining the diatom bloom. A good flush wouldn't come a miss.

As long as the gear is balanced it's surprising how hard you can pull.
