It's not "yaa" it's "ae maa". The song is about a girl who's telling about the woes of marriage to her mother. This song is sung by many families of marwar, in their own different dialect versions during the ritual of " Pag Pheeri", the day when the girl returns to her home for the first time after marriage, with her husband. The women of the girl's family, with her mother as the prime singer, sing the song. It's very beautiful to see and hear it.
It was between 5’th century and 6’th century the Banjaras left Rajasthan, Punjab and Sindh to west and later called as Roma Gypsies. That was a great migration of Indian History
basically rajput girl complaining to her mother) That my husband not giving me fare of the train..( bannA deve ni gaaadki ro bhaado re) Than saying that her maternal uncle paternal uncle n brother are lil miser...not giving her the fare and why they got married her far away (Babosa baisa ra daamda ra Lobhi deve ni gaadki ro bhaadiyo re) daamda means money Lobhi mean greedy So basically it is a folk song played in rajput wedding when girls goes back to her mothers house jus after her marriage)..
I am from Pakistan Punjab living abroad for two years. Hearing this song I don't know why it feels so home to me, I have been listening to the whole album for months now and am still not used to the emotions that are poured into this album. The warmth, the sweetness, it just takes me to places, all the good places. I feel like a kid surrounded by family. I don't even know the language, the singers and language feel similar to South Punjab but I think they are from Rajhistan whereas I was brought up in Lahore. So weird, something which is just remotely linked, feels like more than home. Kudos to everybody involved
