  • The ZAHA is a new Turkish amphibious Armored Personnel Carrier (APC). It is also called Marine Assault Vehicle, or MAV. It was developed by FNSS to meet requirement of the Turkish Navy. During the beach landing phase of an amphibious operation, these vehicles are launched from landing helicopter docks (LHD) and are able to rapidly cover the distance between the vessel and the shore, allowing marine units to land under armour protection. Once on land, they are able to operate alongside other armoured vehicles. The MAV fire power is provided by the purposely designed CAKA dual remote-controlled turret that can be armed with a 12.7 mm MG and a 40 mm AGL. Designed to support dual operations based on their mission requirements, armoured amphibious assault vehicles need to ensure superior capabilities both at sea and on land. A unique hull design and powerful water jets make the MAV highly mobile in the water with a speed of 7 knots, as well as on land, at 70 km/h maximum speed.
The base vehicle can be configured in different variants such as Personnel Carrier and Command Post. Few navies worldwide possess such a capability.
The FNSS MAV carries the armour protected amphibious fighting vehicle concept into the 21st century. Compared to similar systems, the MAV can be considered superior in the following respects:
    • Number of transported personnel,
    • Level of ballistic and mine protection,
    • New generation remote controlled turret,
    • Performances on land and afloat.

US is using weapon sales as a way to levarage political favors in international domain. US creates difficulties in its senate, and the senators play good and bad police for weapon sales againts countirees. They all accept bribes of course. US never transfer technology as well. These countines are brother counties to Turkey, and Turkey will sell them without any hidden conditions, and in a bargain rate. Turkey also wants strong malasia so may gladly transfer technology to somelevel.

They already are. US weapons sales are mainly based in the aerospace sector such as planes, helicopters and aviation components. Turkiye's main focus is everything else including drones and small/medium warships. So its main market competitors are Russia, China, Germany and France.

Nevertheless, even if Nurol Makina bought out BAE System's shares or the whole company was outright nationalized by the government, it doesn't change the fact that FNSS' chassis are often based on FMC chassis such as the AAV7 and M113 due to its founding as a JV and related tech transfer.

@@hellmarch3043 The only vehicle I can find is an 8x8 made by a Malaysia company in conjunction with Turkey however the Turkish military doesn’t operate any of them. What’s the name of these supposed vehicles? Keep in mind there is a difference between a normal amphibious vehicle and one that can do amphibious assault. The LAV25 is amphibious but cannot participate in an amphibious assault. Tracks are not “needed” for a beach landing regardless of the terrain. 8x8 vehicles have proven themselves well which is why many countries have switched to them over tracked vehicles even outside of amphibious vehicles (Self propelled guns, IFVs, etc). Just to be clear I’m not here to judge Turkey, I’m just curious why they chose tracks when most countries have moved away from tracks where they can. I’m well aware the Turkish military (aswell as any military for the most part) knows what is best for them to acquire. What is “best” is obviously subjective for each country.

@@cheems2992 FNSS did the development and creation. Indonesia simply did the field-testing for the tropical and jungle climates, nothing more. Even the initial batches of the Kaplan MT were exclusively produced in Turkiye, while Indonesia is eventually getting licensed production. With the MAV they're not even needed for field testing, they'll just get licensed production. Indonesians needs to understand that they had limited R&D involvement with the former, and none with the latter.

Indonesians are pretty illiterate about military stuff in general. They'll outright claim credit for creating something they didn't even create. Indonesia is getting licensed production for the MAV, nothing more. With the Kaplan MT they did field-testing and licensed production, nothing more.

Just a glorified version of AAV..
The problem is 7knot (13km/h) speed.
It means if the vehicle is launched beyond visual range (ca30km) it will take over 2h to reach the shore. Alternatively if the mother vessel is to approach the hostile shores closer, it will expose the launching vessel to enemy fire. To mitigate this, you would need air and artillery cover to ensure the safety. The question is whether Turkey, Indonesia or anyone else other than very few countries would have that much air cover available in a hostile territory. This is the reason why USMC abandoned landing approach…. The issue with this vehicle or AAV was that to achieve buoyancy, the armour was kept minimum. Once the vehicle is close enough to take enemy fire, most coast defence systems are more than 12.7mm and ATGMs are more common than before. Even against enemy coast defence force’s aged BMPs with 30mm gun and 14.5mm protection, these vehicles stand very little chance. If there is just 1 T64 or T72, entire landing party will be compromised. There is not much point in using such weak armoured slow vehicle…
Japanese, Korean and Chinese are developing new vehicles with 2000-2700bhp capable of achieving 30-40km/h speed.

Counter-Question: Why are you trying to land on contested beaches with an APC which is clearly not made to take down other armored units?
Naval warships have 76 and 127mm guns for a reason.

7 knots speed is not enough for AAV more vulnerable from enemy fire. Need 80 mm rocket , 50 caliber , 30 caliber machine gun and can carry minimum of 15 marines.
