  • Hooray for Harold Lloyd! The main chunks are from WHY PICK ON ME and HIS ROYAL SLYNESS. I've used an episode that I don't believe is around on You Tube (quite a few are).
    Singalong if you know the words! Other episodes available here:

    I watched these as a kid in the 80s. Loved them then, still do and I now appreciate how fit and agile he, and performers of this time were.

    Absolute class comedy and very athletic work by many of the actors not just Harold. You can see how this and other silent comedy influenced the style of later comedians like Benny Hill etc.

    The latter film is quite the family affair, as in it we see both Mildred Davis (Mrs. Lloyd) and Harold's brother Gaylord. Hard to believe these films are as old as they are, as the comic action is so on-point and Harold's character is so timelessly charming!

    He is the true king of all times of physical comedy. Sebastien Maniscalco may be the king as of current year 2022, but Harold Lloyd is the king of all time. IMHO he is funnier than Charlie Chaplin. I've seen his silent movies many times and they never, never, never, never, never grow old.

    You can see how talented and well rehearsed they all are. They used to show this in 1980s in the UK on BBC2. When were the actual silent films recorded?

    • @DaveGlass

      The films themselves were made in the late teens/20s.

  • @EROLaliasKIZILMASKE

    Again a terrific episode...thank You very much David!
    Harold Lloyd was very athletic and acrobatic, made many stunts himself, an enthusiastic David Sharpe(an acrobatic Stuntman himself, known for his famous Stunts in Republic Serials) told an interviewer. I think like the acrobatic Douglas Fairbanks, Harold Lloyd was also an Idol for David Sharpe, whose films he watched, admired and wanted to do the same and from them he learned these stunts. Luckily in later years(I think in the 30s) he doubled Harold, he even shaved his hair to look like Harold`s.

    I have mixed feelings about the narrator. Sometimes he is helpful to clarify what's happening to the modern day viewer; other times he is just irritating!

    • @jackmorrison7379
      @jackmorrison7379 2 года назад +5

      Yes, irritating. As soon as he said "and my Aunt Sadie", on top of the Brooklyn and Catskills accent I tuned him out. Really? Harold's comedy is about as far from the dialogue jokes, often ethnic (I know-I saw the last throes of that scene) Catskills tradition as you can get. Why was this narrator chosen?

    • @jazzinrascal
      @jazzinrascal 2 года назад +4

      The scripts were written by Peter Durston and the narrator was Henry Corden (best remembered for voicing Fred Flintstone in the cartoons). Time-Life's features were shown with the intertitles but this TV series was aimed at prime time audiences and when it was broadcast in the 70s and 80s it certainly won over a young generation. Kudos to the music composer Don Hulette. I'm sure it's a generation thing...as a kid coming up in the early 80s this TV show was like sunshine.

    I’m agreeing with previous comments And commentators. BBC 2. Loads of fun during the week. Not sure what day.
    It is amazing how I feel as kids we appreciated entertainment from the past. I suppose because the content wasn’t there but entertainment from the past was a staple which I feel is a bit lost on young’uns today
    It is a big deal to watch movies from the past now that we grew up on

Jackie Chan🎇💘🌹 worked with Bruce Lee🎇🙏🕯️🌹💐😔..🏆🎓🤴🏼..💘🥋..🗿 as an extra in a few of Lee's films , and was good friends with Mr. Lee., who taught Mr. Chan a lot of his teachings .. Harold Lloyd inspired and taught many also .. Perhaps Jackie got ideas from Harold Lloyd's style , but I doubt Mr. Lloyd was Mr. Chan's only inspiration . just my humble opinion..☺️
