- 2 अगस्त 2019 को पत्रकार रवीश कुमार को एशिया के सबसे बड़े नागरिक सम्मान रेमन मैग्सेसे पुरस्कार देने की घोषणा की गई. यह पुरस्कार रवीश कुमार को पत्रकारिता में उनके योगदान के लिए दिया जाएगा और वो इसे पाने वाले पहले हिंदी पत्रकार हैं. अवार्ड फाउंडेशन ने उनके कार्यक्रम को आम लोगों से जुड़ा बताते हुए कहा कि अगर आप बेआवाज़ों की आवाज़ बनते हैं, तब आप एक पत्रकार हैं. फाउंडेशन ने 44 वर्षीय रवीश कुमार को भारत के सबसे प्रभावशाली टीवी पत्रकारों में से एक बताया. फिलीपींस के राष्ट्रपति रेमन मैग्सेसे की स्मृति में दिया जाने वाला यह सम्मान हर साल अपने क्षेत्र में उल्लेखनीय कार्य करने वाले व्यक्तियों और संस्थाओं को दिया जाता है. फाउंडेशन ने रवीश कुमार के बारे में कहा कि वे बड़े से बड़े अधिकारी को जवाबदेह ठहराने, देश में सार्वजनिक चर्चा की स्थिति और मीडिया की आलोचना करने में झिझकते नहीं है; यही कारण है कि उन्हें कई बार किसी न किसी तरह के उत्पीड़न और धमकियों का सामना करना पड़ा है. रवीश कुमार को सोमवार, 9 सितंबर को यह पुरस्कार फिलीपींस की राजधानी मनीला में दिया जाएगा. द वायर के अविचल दुबे ने एनडीटीवी इंडिया के मैनेजिंग एडिटर रवीश कुमार से बातचीत की.

दुर्भाग्यपूर्ण हैं कि किसी भारतीय को रमन मैग्सेसे जैसे सम्मानीय पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया जाता है और सरकार और मीडिया न इनको बधाई देती है और न ही इसे दिखाती हैं वैसे रवीश कुमार जी को इसकी आवश्यकता भी नहीं है क्योंकि उन्होंने अपने पूरे पत्रकारिता जीवन में निस्वार्थ भाव से अपना कार्य किया है और इसी वजह से देश विदेश सभी जगह आपको इतना जाना पहचाना जाता है।
