Chenle's costume as Pennywise quickly established him as a strong contender for future SM Halloween Parties, and it's proven as he's the 2nd place winner as The Nun in SM Halloween Party 2021. The 1st place winner is Shinee's Onew as Danny Devito's Penguin from Batman Returns. SM's annual Halloween Party is a highly anticipated event in kpop world, even more anticipated that Met Gala. Fans, non fans, even idols/artists from other companies look forward to see who wear what. SM artists who inspired SM Halloween Party is Shinee back in 2013 when they attended the party in full costume (make up, hairdo, face & body paint, props, etc), while others wore normal clothes. Seeing them, Lee Soo Man (SM's founder) decided that SM should hold the costume party every year. Shinee raised the bar for halloween costumes and they're well known to go all out. As years go by the stakes go higher and higher and winners also get cash prizes.

This Halloween party was in 2018 which meant that there were 18 members in NCT at this time. (Hence, why Kun debuted as a member of NCT-2018 with "Black on Back" making them equal 18 members in order to mirror the year.) WayV debuted in January 2019, so Xiaojun, Hendrey and YangYang hadn't debuted yet. And Shotaro and SungChan weren't part of NCT until 2020. Yes, SM holds Halloween parties every year and it's all thanks to SHINee, one of SM's legendary senior Kpop groups -- one of Haechan's favorite Kpop groups and one of the reasons why he joined SM. SHINee is known as one of the very first groups to ever dress up in full costume for Halloween. Before SHINee started the trend, Halloween didn't used to be a very big deal in Korea. However, SHINee and SM kind of changed all that. Fun fact: The middle of summer is horror season in Korea. Koreans say they like to watch scary movies and shows in the summer because it gives them chills which cools them down when it is hot. Which is one reason why celebrating Halloween in October wasn't really that big of deal before. Halloween in Korea is pretty much a western culture transplant. It has only been in the last few years that Koreans have started to celebrate Halloween by holding costume parties. SHINee is the group that first started the Halloween trend in Korea and they are the reason why we have things like dance practice videos where groups dress up in Halloween costumes and do special Halloween events, etc. It all began in 2013 when the members of SHINee decided to dress up in full costume for a fan meeting, which really caused a buzz in the Kpop industry. The SHINee members had so much fun, that they decided to attend SM's annual company dinner party in costume as well. SHINee's costumes became such a trending topic that Lee SooMan decided to make the company dinner a Halloween party every year. Now SM is known for holding one of the largest costume parties every year. The event is like the met gala of Halloween parties, and is usually attended by some of the biggest name celebrities in Korea. As part of the party there is a costume contest and, in the past, the person with the best costume has won an all expenses paid vacation trip. (SM Entertainment members are known for being some of the most competitive. They are the ones who go all out when it comes to dressing up -- always trying to outdo each other. So it's a pretty steep competition among the top contenders every year. And each year they have to come up with something better than what anyone did the year before.) For example, one year Key from SHINee dressed up as Ronald McDonald from McDonald's and Onew, the leader of SHINee, dressed up as Colonel Sanders from Kentucky Fried Chicken, which got so much media coverage that Key says he was given a giant stack of coupons for free meals from McDonald's as a thank you for endorsing the company. (Which is similar to Johnny receiving Kellogg's cereal for dressing up as Tony the Tiger's friend.) Then Chanyeol from EXO had to outdo everyone one year by spending a small fortune on an Iron Man costume imported from overseas, which won him the top prize -- it had real working lights and sounds, and he couldn't even sit down with it on, so he had to walk to the event. Which then made Key from SHINee, who is also SM's director of fashion, even more competitive, so in 2018 he came as Voldemort from Harry Potter. Taeyong dressed as Syaoran because fans wanted him to (the year before he came as Jack Frost because of fans too), honestly he fits the character so well. 2. Johnny (and other NCT members too) trended on twitter & Kellogg's saw this. The SM Halloween Party is an Annual thing. It used to be like a formal event but I believe one year Shinee had a fansign right before the event where they were dressed in costumes so they showed up to the event in crazy costumes. It was such a hit that SM turned it in to a costume party. A lot of SM artists get really in to it and do elaborate costumes. This was October 2018, so at the time, WayV hadn't debuted yet, which is why YangYang, Hendery, XiaoJun aren't here. Then they didn't hold the annual party in 2019, I believe it was due to the passing of their artist Sulli, and didn't hold one in 2020 due to Covid so 2021 Halloween party was the first one YangYang, Hendery, XiaoJun, Shotaro, and Sungchan participated in.

When I first saw Taeyong dressed up as Syaoran, I freaked out bc Cardcaptor Sakura was one of my favourite shows growing up and he was so cute! And yes, I know what u mean about Jaehyun's stare bc it makes me so flustered to the point where I can't look at him XD. If u thought Chenle's costume was scary, u should see Shotaro's jigsaw costume at last year's party. U should check out the 2021 halloween video. Even though they all weren't able to be in the same room together for the pumpkin manito video due to covid and winwin, ten and lucas weren't there, it is still pretty funny.

Thank you for reacting, back in 2018 this was iconic & it has been every year since (2013) SM decided to make Halloween a big annual event for Korean celebrities. I honestly don't watch much content from SM groups other then NCT & SuperM so I wouldn't able to tell you much about them luckily other full pink blood (SM fans) already told you in the comments about them. NCT loves to record everything including behind the scenes for events like this. I've also seen they like to do couple costumes were one of them dresses up as the girl. I believe 2017 Taeil was Belle with Winwin as Beast from Beauty & the Beast. 2018 Jungwoo as Rose & Jaehyun as Jack from Titanic as you saw here. 2021 (no Halloween party 2019-2020) Jungwoo as Bella & Taeyong as Edward from the Twilight series. Fun facts Jungwoo won prettiest girl idol look alike because of his Rose costume & similar girl features to another girl idol, it was voted by other K-pop groups. Jungwoo has broken the internet twice now with his partners Jaehyun & Taeyong for both pairs looking so fine. Johnny was given a year's worth of Kellogg's because of his Tony costume & I believe a year's worth of cola as well for dressing up as the Polar Bear in 2021. Chenle won 2nd place last year for his Nun costume, he really loves dressing up scary characters. Mark also broke the internet last year because theirs NCT inside joke in the fandom were fans call him SpiderMark because he has good reflexes and gut instincts (spidey senses.) Nctzens have been making edits of him & begging him to dress up as Spiderman for the longest time so he finally did last year the problem was the costume was so last minute it was quite bad. Omg the way I screamed at 24:19 with the way Jaemin looked at Jungwoo & then Jeno coming to break them apart. My brain totally had a BL shipper scene were Nana was simping & Jeno was jealous jaja I can't with myself. I know Jungwoo has everyone's attention & rightfully so, truly beautiful but I had a hard time taking my eyes off Jaehyun but then again I always do.

SM actually holds annual halloween balls (Shinee was actually the first to wear costumes during these balls way back) except during covid. There is another set of halloween videos taken a year before this one. unfortunately they were not complete for the 2021 version but the NCT videos were still so funny :)

Actually SM ENTERTAINMENT always make helloween party every year it's because covid from 2019 until 2020 they not make helloween party and finally 2021 they make again.

Chenle's costume as Pennywise quickly established him as a strong contender for future SM Halloween Parties, and it's proven as he's the 2nd place winner as The Nun in SM Halloween Party 2021. The 1st place winner is Shinee's Onew as Danny Devito's Penguin from Batman Returns.
SM's annual Halloween Party is a highly anticipated event in kpop world, even more anticipated that Met Gala. Fans, non fans, even idols/artists from other companies look forward to see who wear what.
SM artists who inspired SM Halloween Party is Shinee back in 2013 when they attended the party in full costume (make up, hairdo, face & body paint, props, etc), while others wore normal clothes. Seeing them, Lee Soo Man (SM's founder) decided that SM should hold the costume party every year. Shinee raised the bar for halloween costumes and they're well known to go all out. As years go by the stakes go higher and higher and winners also get cash prizes.
This halloween party was in 2018 so Xiaojun, Hendery and Yangyang hadn’t debuted yet. WayV debut was on 2019.

This Halloween party was in 2018 which meant that there were 18 members in NCT at this time. (Hence, why Kun debuted as a member of NCT-2018 with "Black on Back" making them equal 18 members in order to mirror the year.) WayV debuted in January 2019, so Xiaojun, Hendrey and YangYang hadn't debuted yet. And Shotaro and SungChan weren't part of NCT until 2020.
Yes, SM holds Halloween parties every year and it's all thanks to SHINee, one of SM's legendary senior Kpop groups -- one of Haechan's favorite Kpop groups and one of the reasons why he joined SM. SHINee is known as one of the very first groups to ever dress up in full costume for Halloween.
Before SHINee started the trend, Halloween didn't used to be a very big deal in Korea. However, SHINee and SM kind of changed all that.
Fun fact: The middle of summer is horror season in Korea. Koreans say they like to watch scary movies and shows in the summer because it gives them chills which cools them down when it is hot. Which is one reason why celebrating Halloween in October wasn't really that big of deal before. Halloween in Korea is pretty much a western culture transplant.
It has only been in the last few years that Koreans have started to celebrate Halloween by holding costume parties. SHINee is the group that first started the Halloween trend in Korea and they are the reason why we have things like dance practice videos where groups dress up in Halloween costumes and do special Halloween events, etc. It all began in 2013 when the members of SHINee decided to dress up in full costume for a fan meeting, which really caused a buzz in the Kpop industry. The SHINee members had so much fun, that they decided to attend SM's annual company dinner party in costume as well.
SHINee's costumes became such a trending topic that Lee SooMan decided to make the company dinner a Halloween party every year.
Now SM is known for holding one of the largest costume parties every year. The event is like the met gala of Halloween parties, and is usually attended by some of the biggest name celebrities in Korea.
As part of the party there is a costume contest and, in the past, the person with the best costume has won an all expenses paid vacation trip. (SM Entertainment members are known for being some of the most competitive. They are the ones who go all out when it comes to dressing up -- always trying to outdo each other. So it's a pretty steep competition among the top contenders every year. And each year they have to come up with something better than what anyone did the year before.) For example, one year Key from SHINee dressed up as Ronald McDonald from McDonald's and Onew, the leader of SHINee, dressed up as Colonel Sanders from Kentucky Fried Chicken, which got so much media coverage that Key says he was given a giant stack of coupons for free meals from McDonald's as a thank you for endorsing the company. (Which is similar to Johnny receiving Kellogg's cereal for dressing up as Tony the Tiger's friend.)
Then Chanyeol from EXO had to outdo everyone one year by spending a small fortune on an Iron Man costume imported from overseas, which won him the top prize -- it had real working lights and sounds, and he couldn't even sit down with it on, so he had to walk to the event.
Which then made Key from SHINee, who is also SM's director of fashion, even more competitive, so in 2018 he came as Voldemort from Harry Potter. And then in 2021 -- which was the first year the SHINee members were able to attend since the pandemic cancelled the event in 2020, and this was the first year since Onew, Key and Minho were discharged from the military -- Onew kept the tradition going. Onew dressed up as The Penguin from Batman for SM's Halloween House Party, and he received the award for best dressed. So there are behind & follow up story of these event:
1. Taeyong dressed as Syaoran because fans wanted him to (the year before he came as Jack Frost because of fans too), honestly he fits the character so well.
2. Johnny (and other NCT members too) trended on twitter & Kellogg's saw this. Korean Kellogg's then sent them a lot of boxes of cereal, so for a while they eat cereals as breakfast & snacks (SHINee Key also had the similar story, he dressed as Ronald McDonald & he got lots of coupons & his meme gets so famous worldwide).
3. NCT members plans what they want to dressed as, and they usually dressed as couple each year. This year, Jaehyun said he wanted to be Jack so Jungwoo said he will be his counterpart (Taeil & Winwin dressed as Beauty & The Beast before, last year Jungwoo & Taeyong as Bella & Edward)

The SM Halloween Party is an Annual thing. It used to be like a formal event but I believe one year Shinee had a fansign right before the event where they were dressed in costumes so they showed up to the event in crazy costumes. It was such a hit that SM turned it in to a costume party. A lot of SM artists get really in to it and do elaborate costumes. This was October 2018, so at the time, WayV hadn't debuted yet, which is why YangYang, Hendery, XiaoJun aren't here. Then they didn't hold the annual party in 2019, I believe it was due to the passing of their artist Sulli, and didn't hold one in 2020 due to Covid so 2021 Halloween party was the first one YangYang, Hendery, XiaoJun, Shotaro, and Sungchan participated in.

When I first saw Taeyong dressed up as Syaoran, I freaked out bc Cardcaptor Sakura was one of my favourite shows growing up and he was so cute! And yes, I know what u mean about Jaehyun's stare bc it makes me so flustered to the point where I can't look at him XD. If u thought Chenle's costume was scary, u should see Shotaro's jigsaw costume at last year's party. U should check out the 2021 halloween video. Thank you for reacting, back in 2018 this was iconic & it has been every year since (2013) SM decided to make Halloween a big annual event for Korean celebrities. I honestly don't watch much content from SM groups other then NCT & SuperM so I wouldn't able to tell you much about them luckily other full pink blood (SM fans) already told you in the comments about them.
NCT loves to record everything including behind the scenes for events like this. I've also seen they like to do couple costumes were one of them dresses up as the girl. I believe 2017 Taeil was Belle with Winwin as Beast from Beauty & the Beast. 2018 Jungwoo as Rose & Jaehyun as Jack from Titanic as you saw here. 2021 (no Halloween party 2019-2020) Jungwoo as Bella & Taeyong as Edward from the Twilight series.
Fun facts Jungwoo won prettiest girl idol look alike because of his Rose costume & similar girl features to another girl idol, it was voted by other K-pop groups. Jungwoo has broken the internet twice now with his partners Jaehyun & Taeyong for both pairs looking so fine. Johnny was given a year's worth of Kellogg's because of his Tony costume & I believe a year's worth of cola as well for dressing up as the Polar Bear in 2021. Chenle won 2nd place last year for his Nun costume, he really loves dressing up scary characters. Mark also broke the internet last year because theirs NCT inside joke in the fandom were fans call him SpiderMark because he has good reflexes and gut instincts (spidey senses.) Nctzens have been making edits of him & begging him to dress up as Spiderman for the longest time so he finally did last year the problem was the costume was so last minute it was quite bad. Hopefully you can check out behind the scenes of SM's & NCT's Halloween from other years tough it was only a private party with SM idols only that year due to covid their was still some footage.
Omg the way I screamed at 24:19 with the way Jaemin looked at Jungwoo & then Jeno coming to break them apart. My brain totally had a BL shipper scene were Nana was simping & Jeno was jealous jaja I can't with myself. I know Jungwoo has everyone's attention & rightfully so, truly beautiful but I had a hard time taking my eyes off Jaehyun but then again I always do.

SM actually holds annual halloween balls (Shinee was actually the first to wear costumes during these balls way back) except during covid. There is another set of halloween videos taken a year before this one. unfortunately they were not complete for the 2021 version but the NCT videos were still so funny :)
