You folks are very blessed to have such a well equipped shop. There is a lot of wisdom in maintaining your own bone yard of dead vehicles and equipment. Dead doesn't necessarily mean useless. The whole unit may be useless but parts can potentially nearly live forever. I know a master automotive machinist that built a desert racing monster out of an AMC 396cid engine using some internal components from Pontiac, Ford, Chevy and Mopar. Then he and his buddy put that 600+ HP stroker in an old CJ7 and desert raced it with great success. Thanks for showing DIY projects. This kind of sharing can inspire others to think for themselves so as to turn away from the disposable mentality that the fast food lifestyle has sadly promoted.
When I was a kid, my two brothers and I bought a wheelchair from a local thrift store and had it around for years. We all got really good with doing tricks in it. Seeing yours brings back memories.
i don't get to smile often but every time i see these videos posted they make my day! Thank you guys for doing your part as farmers and teaching and showing us the ways of the welkers! Keep on keepin on and stay farmin welkers! You guys bring joy to the world just by doing your job and thats gotta feel awesome!
During the winter months my brother and cousins would rebuilt car motors. One winter they switched a VW's transmission so it was backwards when you shifted it. Farm fun!!!
At first when you were doing all the jobs on the vac I though man Nick got all the jobs that "suck" today! But then you got to the tubing part where the flanges attach and that was riveting! Good work on following through and tidying up all those little details etc that get pushed off or neglected.
I've been working as a mechanic since 20yrs and aslong as you doesn't overload the lift specs you'r fine, I have never seen a lift fall over. However.. when you have a truck on it and rocking and doing some hard work Kinda job it feels a bit unstable.. so it's def not a bad idea!
On the mystery of the grease gun without a cardboard tube, the cheapest overall way to buy grease is in bulk in five gallon buckets. To fill the grease gun from the bucket, take the grease reservoir tube with the piston all the way forward and insert it into the fresh grease deep enough to form a seal around the tube and then pull back on the piston and it'll draw the fresh grease up into the tube with the suction from the piston being pulled back. Once the piston is pulled all the way back, latch it over to the side just like with using a cardboard grease tube. Screw the pump head back on and then unlatch and push the piston rod up into the grease and it should put a little pressure on the grease to prime the pump head with a few cranks. No grease tube required, but it's a little messy! BTW, Zach was using Interstate Batteries in his John Deere's. If you have Interstate Batteries in your equipment, save your self some time and just permanently attach a set of jumper cables to each one......you're gonna need it!
Awe man just go on and put in a 4 post lift! 😂😂😂! That’s definitely what’s on my “next to purchase list”! If y’all ever want to swap that ole Deere out for some red paint I’d love to have it! We have several old 4020’s still kicking around our place and always wanted a 4520! Enjoy the videos!
I got a challenger lift 10000 pound lift the guy set it up in my shop put it all together but didn’t bolt it to the floor put his car on the lift and raised it it was so balanced it didn’t move at all I told him if it falls he’s buying me a new shop I was amazed I bought 2 of them but I bolted them to the floor god bless guys can’t wait to see what y’all going to work on next
Drove 7700 J.D. combine back in the day didn’t like the cold either. Our I.H. tractors fired right up in the cold! Beard is filling in nicely. Does your wife like it? LOL. Keep being the light brother.
A good project after the Big Bud. Versatile rebuild with PTO installed to pull a Grain Cart for next Harvest PLEASE!!!!!! Love watching your videos keep them coming and Stay Safe
I use two of those tall tripod jack stands, one on the front and back of the truck, they take all the sway out of the lift. They also work great to help hold things up when you need a third hand working solo.
My favorite videos of yours are working in the shop. Maybe because I’m an equipment mechanic myself lol farming is only part time sadly. Also I just noticed your almost at 300,000 subscribers! That’s awesome man. Stay warm God bless
That’s awesome you got that broken bolt out! That would have caused a few problems if you didn’t fix it! The rubber gasket was pretty shot! The glue putty stuff they put on it is kinda crappy!! We used that stuff a couple times on gasket and found out like you did you need heat to make it work better!! The tubes look a lot better now! The grease guns I swear are always empty when I go use them at my work also! Can never figure that out lol!! That was a great idea to put up some runners up there to make it a little more stable!! I miss legarms!! I liked seeing him in the vids you have Nick!! Plus I liked when he was filming himself working also!! God bless and be safe Welkers!!
Well i would say after the grain is sold pull the JD motor rebuild it and turbo charge it, Put in a manual intake heater in case you have to start the JD again in the winter it will help with cold starts and maybe some new glow plugs if you can get them to work. Also from what I seen if the lift was that shaky at the top the bolts in the concrete was / are loose and needs to be looked at.
Living on the edge Nick. Digging through Legarms stock pile while he is on vacation. (He will know) LOL Nice job on the brace for the lift. Great Video as always.
Nick, y’all should get yourself a 4 post lift for these big pickups like the Fummins. So much safer. I have a Mohawk brand 2 post lift in our shop and it freaks me out every time we put a big tuck on it. New 4 post is on its way😀
Pretty cool to see how other parts of the country run their farms. Here in southern Arizona we run crop year round. Never any down time really other than 2 weeks that operators get off during Christmas.
Work in woodworking industry, we use urethane flexible hose(clear, abrasion resistant) for some of our machinery connections. Other thought was what about concrete pumping hose for your vacuum system?
I wonder if you could use tiling hose that doesn’t have the perforation holes in it for the grain vac like they use on the super sucker trucks. You could still use metal couplers or just duck tape the pieces together when ever you use it like we do at work and cut apart when done we use the same hose many times before it wears out.
So it's so cold that you froze your tush off. That too huh? Well I lived wit that for years, so I retired to east Tennessee. People around here are complaining that it's only going to get up yo 69 degF in the morning. LOL! Take care, and loving the winter work in the shop. Regards, Solomon
Clock in ar 4am wait like a kid at christmas for the next welker farm video to pop up on phone then hurry till lunch to watch it makes my day then theres that guy who drives those weird looking green things that says mooooiiiissssttttuuurree all the time lol
No, not ether - methane! Of course methane is explosive, and is an asphyxiant also. So it is best to hold all farting until you get home at night - under the blankets with your wife, then release... 🤣
Are 6" slurry / water vacuum pipes ever used on grain vacs (generally made of plastic reinforced material very common here on other side of the Atlantic )
If you're meaning something like www.thehosemaster.co.uk/herakles-grey-heavy-duty-pvc-suction-delivery-hose/ it would be interesting how long it would last though seeing as it's only rated to 5°f that maybe a problem for them more than it is us
Must admit they look stronger than the ones that several of the firm we buy our feed from used as they had some 4" ones on their new bulk lorries which didn't last very long as soon as they had a bend like when they connected to the delivery pipe of the bin. Admittedly they usually deliver multiple 20 ton loads with the ones that come here throughout the day everyday all through the pipes. Peas I wouldn't think would be too bad but I'd be concerned with the grain as a lot are just liquid and sludge only
Would a combination of short lengths of the good flex pipe connected to schedule 80 PVC work? There are PVC flanges that will match metal pipe flanges. The PVC would be very smooth for minimal flow restriction, schedule 80 will withstand plenty of vacuum, but the PVC will be heavier. Figure at least some of the vacuum lines will always be laying on the ground though.
2:17 John Deere disrespect I like it I’m a red farmer all Internationals all 66, 56, 68, 86 series at least 5 per series except the 68 we only have one 1468
Honestly, you should be able to find almost anything you could need on McMaster Carr. They usually deliver the part next day as long as you order by 5 PM.
Where I live on the east coast the town I live in does leaf collection a few times in the fall and spring to keep people from burning leaves. The have vacuums units that are towed behind dump trucks with a box in the bed. The vacuum units have 10 or 12 inch flexible rubber reinforced hose that the operator moves around to suck up leaves and small yard debris. Don’t know how much it costs but I would think it should be able to suck up beans and grain and be durable enough to last for long time.
You know I used to wish that it snowed here in western Australia but I am begin to see snow as slot if extra very cold work but is still very interesting watching your videos. Hey nick if you ever get sick of snow Im sure that I could find some work here for you hope you like straw bailing sheep work and very hot and dust conditions for most of the year What is the average rain fall in Montana ours is about 250mm if rain about 10inhs.
I think the exhaust flex tube should hold up, they usually last a few hundred thousand on a semi truck. It might get crushed or damaged a little easier, but it should hold up. And I have never been a fan of two post lifts, especially for 3/4 or 1 ton trucks.
Yep, Nick misses Legarms. You can tell when he complained about freezing his tush. That would have been Legarms' tush freezing if he were around to send out in the cold... 🤣
Put that intake in the cab of the tractor and in cold weather, the cab will never warm up. In wet weather, the vacuum in the cab will pull water in every crack and crevice, leading to fun electrical issues. Maybe run the intake over the top of the cab, then turn it 90 degrees down?
"Smashed Vac Tubes" My first thought was the old electronic vacuum tubes from the old radios and TV's(the ones you had to let warm up a bit). Just aged myself lol!
Next time drilling, try a step drill bit, no need for a pilot hole and they work very good. P.S. there is allot of variable sizes, for your farm I'd suggest small to large variety.
How's it looking on a bigger shop? I'm thinking 100x200 so you can pull an air seeder in one at a time to work on it in the winter and I guess be able to park all the buds inside during winter....keep the mice out of them too guess.

'Would have started if it was red'...so funny. Love that humour. Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺

Nick it's a talent that you've got. You can make anything seems entertaining.
That's why he is hollywood!
Nick, there always so much to do in the winter months. Good work on getting those things done. Can’t wait to see what’s next!!
During the winter months my brother and cousins would rebuilt car motors. One winter they switched a VW's transmission so it was backwards when you shifted it. Farm fun!!!
Love that dead battery shot at Zach... that was a good one and we were all thinking
At first when you were doing all the jobs on the vac I though man Nick got all the jobs that "suck" today! But then you got to the tubing part where the flanges attach and that was riveting!

Love it. "Wonder if Zach's been around" LoL
Wow More snow already, Great video
FYI - Super glue on the ends of rubber seals that meet helps hold them together and creates a better seal.
Even your shop chores are interesting because of how you present them thanks Nick

Not a Farmer, but live around em' but I got to ride in a Quadtrac 620 the other week. I see why you like it so much.

Looking forward to the special project.
If u bye a exhaust screw jack stand for a lift it works well at stabilizing a heavy truck.
Nick, y’all should get yourself a 4 post lift for these big pickups like the Fummins. So much safer. I have a Mohawk brand 2 post lift in our shop and it freaks me out every time we put a big tuck on it. New 4 post is on its way😀

TnT farm supplies in Chester sells all hoses and clamps for vacuums
As always love your world and the attitude you guys have
Morning Nick. Nice video! God bless.
Love the DIY and fabricating yall do. Very impressive.
We have snow at Manitoba now and i was at Montana last week i was close but not enough god bless nick and welker farms
For gaskets I've found that a bead of RTV (room temperature vulcanizing rubber) does a great job.
awesome video as always. enjoyed the part where you and your dad were just having a conversation
Good job taking up the slack for Legarms :)
Work in woodworking industry, we use urethane flexible hose(clear, abrasion resistant) for some of our machinery connections. Other thought was what about concrete pumping hose for your vacuum system?
Poor Legarms, coming back to snowy and cold weather. Might have to fire him since he will just sit in the office to keep warm. Stay safe and warm.
Hi Guys. Another episode I really enjoyed. Greetings from Germany!
Nice safety glasses during the auger chop.
put More of your Dad in the videos..He is a good Man..plus he has to put up with you and the Arms..

7" leaf vac tubes, which are rubber but smooth on the inside could be a viable option for the grain vac.
Great video Nick can't wait to see what you guy's are going to do next!
Getting close to 300K subscribers!
Love the fight between red and green 😉 🚜
Clock in ar 4am wait like a kid at christmas for the next welker farm video to pop up on phone then hurry till lunch to watch it makes my day then theres that guy who drives those weird looking green things that says mooooiiiissssttttuuurree all the time lol
Class job on the lift.
Necessity and cost are the mother of all invention.
GREAT AS USUAL ,Thanks 😀👍🏾🚜🚜🚜🚜🚜🚜🚜☃️☃️
If you put that air intake inside the cab every time you farted the engine will speed up, just like shooting it with ether.
Might help power! Some people in the cab though could blow the head off it! Probably not a good idea.
Hahaha
Haha I was going to do a comment and laugh so hard I farted lol
Welp
No, not ether - methane! Of course methane is explosive, and is an asphyxiant also. So it is best to hold all farting until you get home at night - under the blankets with your wife, then release... 🤣

The sell smooth bore hard rubber pipe. We use to make them all the time in my line of work using a vac truck.
Love watching. Thanks.
Honestly, you should be able to find almost anything you could need on McMaster Carr. They usually deliver the part next day as long as you order by 5 PM.
That big white beast doesn't want to be finished yet. It wants to spend the winter season in a heated building!
If it's the crawler getting restored I'd be very happy!
Nice work Nick, can't wait to see the new content surprise...
AWESOME VIDEO.. Never miss a show
Muchos saludos desde Mexico me gusta mucho verlos a ustedes y a su papá son excelentes personas de lo mejor
Daaad, Nick messed everything up in the workshop while I was gone.
Always something to do around the farm.
Looks chilly! It was 50 degrees here this morning and it was just cold! Hahaha
spray flex seal on the outside of tubing. stop any air leaks and help with nicks and dents
Did you say....
cooooooooollllleeeeeeeee the cornstar!
Restore the 4520 next! Give the old girl some love.

You might want to use Sea Foam for fuel treatment at the end of season winterizing just a idea !!!
I pulled up your location...not far from Canada:) I bet your winters get interesting!
Ever try a plastic hose? I use them for dust collection in my cabinet shop. It's a lot cheaper and it be more flexible.
You know I used to wish that it snowed here in western Australia but I am begin to see snow as slot if extra very cold work but is still very interesting watching your videos.

15 thumbs down what's wrong with people this is the best channel on youtube!!!
We have tubing like that for our brant Vac and it works very nice
Awesome! A channel you can still say God Bless without getting banned.
Get u a decal eraser to remove decals and adhesive .. They work awesome

Sure have been watching Millennial Farmer a lot he works and post Videos everyday sometimes twice a day.

Good video, thanks for the upload.
Wow Nick didn't know that you are just as handy as Scott maybe you are going to take his job after all :P
Super video
A pickup build would be fun!
