I think in that moment, The Chosen One’s perspective of continuing to make others suffer began wavering. He got what he wanted. He was free to make choices. And now that he has the choices now, he started to go against the idea of evil and started becoming neutral.

I like that TDK’s head rises up as his hand feels the lava, like the pain is something that invigorates him
This animation is incredible, it shows that unlike TDL, TCO was not looking for violence, all he wanted was to get revenge on Alan for making him suffer for so long, then he believed that he was evil and wanted to continue making others suffer along with TDL, until he came to Minecraft and realized that he was genuinely free of Alan, and that therefore he could truly relax, which would be the beginning of him starting to see the good side of things and finally deciding to put a stop to TDL, who was genuinely evil because he enjoyed being so regardless of who he hurt.
Well also TDL was created solely to destroy TCO so it makes sense that when they were friends he kept destroying everything.

3:20 Holy Shid, the stacking trees on top of each other is so nostalgic for me. Back when I first got minecraft, me and my bigger brother would play on this world where we lived together in a house and on top of the house we had a ‘MEGA TREE’ as we called it where we had trees on top of trees on the roof. We put dirt on the top of grown trees and then put saplings on that dirt until we reached build height limit. Good old days.

I just noticed that TCO and TDL were exploring this back when Minecraft was fairly new. There wasn't any piglins or other biomes. There wasn't even a hunger bar like there is now. I can only imagine how fascinated TCO will be if he experiences Minecraft now lol

I love that little laugh(?) that TDL does when he encounters the ghasts and realises they're hostile towards him. It shows how much he enjoys even just the possibility of causing havoc, and in this instance he's basically given the perfect excuse since the Nether is ripe with enemies for him!
Speaking of, that mirror of them flying across the surface of Lava (TDL) and Water (TCO) was such a nice detail! They fly in opposite directions yet perform the exact same pose, and it's kinda cute how TCO ends up creating lines of cobblestone due to his flames touching the water!

The Nether mirrors TDL's destructive code, while the Overworld embodies TDL's creative code. One is static, the other is dynamic. TCO had picked up Minecraft items, which altered his coding.
TDL didn't have that same chance, plus TCO enabled TDL to destroy his house, which only reinforced TDL's programming. Both were kind of bad for each other. If TDL had spent any longer in the Nether, he might have discovered the same Minecraft physics TCO did.
u kinda had to read between the lines to understand The Chosen One’s mindset change when it came to cause destruction all over the internet, but this episode RLLY makes it clear that The Chosen One kinda matured faster than The Dark Lord.
The Chosen One rlly is a mirrored image of Alan. Alan started off as this reckless kid who just tortured his stick figures but he eventually matured and realized thats not cool nor morally okay. this mirrors The Chosen One’s actions since he started off just causing chaos all over the internet, but then he started to reflect on his actions and matured. this episode explicitly explains how he came to this new mindset. its so cute honestly
Honestly this is a really solid theory, especially since TCO was made right after Victim. Like how TCO was evil alongside TDL but then realised that he doesn’t really need to cause destruction
I always theorised that it was because TDL’s purpose was to seek destruction. By joining TCO who had once been imprisoned by Alan, he had a partner to help him. On the other hand, TCO wasn’t really given a purpose. Alan’s intentions in creating him are vague but it’s theorised that he was made to be a replacement for victim. His name, ‘The Chosen One’ doesn’t indicate a ‘good’ or ‘bad’ side, he is simply the one who had been granted abilities no average stickman would have.
Being inprisoned by Alan is probably what made him cause so much destruction
@av3_ren The description of Animator vs Animation 2 begins with "The animator, looking for a challenge, decides to make the stick figure harder to beat." so that basically confirms that TCO was indeed meant to be a replacement victim (if the story hasn't changed over the years of course)

like,,,, looking at him here, you can still notice how childish Dark acts, the enthusiasm, almost like a way too energetic kid whilst TCO understands, starting out as destructive but taking the time to play the game properly, understand building and enjoy the scenery, whilst Dark goes around the world, destroying things, entering the nether and fighting all the hostile mobs he could see.
Giving us more of what his character is like.
I don't think it's a matter of TDL not maturing as fast.
I think TCO is discovering his true nature while TDL is already true to themselves and is simply a destructive maniac who will never try or want to change.
I like how here, we can see when TCO’s intentions really change and he realizes what it’s like to build, create, and harmonize with the world instead of destroying it. It’s a cool look into his past to see why he decided to change.

Alan wasn't sure if he should make more AVA or more AVM, so he decided to do both
this short's honestly a great glimpse at the difference between The Dark Lord and The Chosen One's personalities and even offers an explanation as to why they eventually came to disagree, TDL genuinely enjoys violence, flourishing in an environment where he can fight and destroy and not giving a single thought to the people he hurts, even when those people are supposed to be his friends (which we see with him destroying TCO's first house)
TCO meanwhile is much more interested in sitting back, relaxing, taking in the sights and, much like his successor, creating things. The moment he's away from TDL for more than a few seconds he slows down and starts to experiment with minecraft's mechanics, learning, making mistakes but ultimately having fun. It's no wonder that he came to disagree with TDL when he was so obviously merely following his lead this entire time, to the point of letting TDL's desires take priority over his own (again, with TDL destroying his first house, god that single moment tells us so much about these two)
overall, a fun yet short (heh) look at this duo.

You can pretty clearly see Dark Lord pressuring Chosen One to let him destroy their house, when he steps away he does not do so happily, but with uncertainty, this part of their dynamic is not new, we saw it during the flashback too with TCO reaching towards TDL wanting him to stop attacking someone and TDL not listening.
. . . also did anyone else see the cow drop "cooked beef" at 0:42? it's nice attention to detail that it's cooked because the cow was killed by fire, but also an unfortunate error since cows didnt drop meat back in beta, the "cooked beef" texture was instead cooked porkchop

cooked porkchop did kinda look like the cooked steak before the meats were separated into types though, its raw texture was like the porkchop's and its cooked one was beef's

the error is that it did not drop from cows, it dropped from pigs, because it was pork, not beef

Nether mirrors TDL's destructive code, he keeps descending, Overworld is a glimpse into TCO's desire to be more than a weapon.
I think TDL falling into the Nether is a metaphor for TDL's descent into madness, going the opposite direction of TCO. While TCO is already developing self-awareness.
TDL is what TCO would've been if he had not been allowed to question his existence, or worse: Forgetting why he wanted to escape Alan. TDL represents static code, TCO is dynamic code.
Well that and you also gonna remember that TCO is much older than TDL (who probably has the mentality of a child) and to be fair 1:45 TDL did had moment of questioning but luck and fate had other things in store and the moment he entered the nether he made up his mind
I'm pretty sure Dark's comedically long fall was a reference to his death, rather than his descent.
In the Showdown, after he knocks Second into the cliffside, he flies away, looks back, gets hit by a rock, and ultimately blasted a million miles away. Him going into the Nether is analogous to him getting sent into the after life (ironically, the moment he starts to gain some perspective and realize there are consequences to being evil).

This video is sweet, wholesome, and sad at the same time. It really shows the parallel of TCO and TDL a lot, and how TCO matured faster than TDL does, having moral disagreements with each other. Still, TCO follows TDL, because he doesn't want to loose the one friend he has.
Fun fact thier age apparently depend of when thier first vid was created so basically TCO is supposed to be way older than TDL so- yep! He's more mature and calme while TDL is more childish and playful

That's an interesting theory, actually. And the whole Nether scene is set up so that when TDL goes through the portal and finds a world where anything and everything is out to kill him, it sets off his fight or flight instinct and tells him "Don't listen to him. Your purpose is to destroy!"

I like how TCO kind of mirrors TDL, you can see when they look at the new world, and they look at each other, put their hands on their hips- TCO acts a second later than TDL, and then when they land and TDL goes off again, TCO is a bit later. TDL doesnt care where they are, just wants to cause destruction. TCO is slowing down, theres a gradual curiosity growing inside of him to explore and experience rather than to conquer and destroy.

I absolutely LOVE the cannon that Minecraft is the thing that helped The Chosen One realize that he and The Dark Lord were in the wrong. Like we thought it was a slow wearing down, but to know that there was instead a clear turning point is extremely satisfying. It just speaks to the potency of Minecraft's message, as well as the position that the game holds on this channel. It is such an unbelievably important game for inspiring creativity and growth, and it definitely will be for generations.
Can't say the same thing doesn't apply to real people, Minecraft players who play survival are so different from other gamers. they found something in Minecraft other games lack and other game players can't see.

This portrays their personalities, TCO has realized the good in the world and enjoys it the change while TDL destroys everything he comes across because it gives him entertainment.

As someone who played Minecraft during the Xbox 360 days, the C418 music really hit hard. Aside from TDL's killing spree, I'm surprised at how calm this was.
When I saw the newsletter thing teasing this, I imagined the five sticks switching versions through the launcher and exploring old minecraft. This is a WAY more creative approach, and I just love how everything newly revealed about the lore always fits in and makes sense somehow.
I also like how the different personalities of each characters sort of show here, despite at the time having the same goals. TCO saw this new place and, like usual, was ready to destroy everything. But after causing destroying like always, he discovered he could also build and create, something he likely can't do otherwise. And unlike TDL, he prefers to create rather than destroy. It shows how TCO was only ever destructive because it's all he ever knew, with him having to defend himself with his powers seconds after creation. But TDL was created for one purpose, to destroy TCO. TDL's logic is to destroy everything, even if there isn't a reason, because it's what he was made for and was all he ever knew. But TCO is clearly more mature for discovering that he could do way more than what he'd been doing his whole life. TDL didn't recognize this, and this is probably the same reason the events of AVA season 2 ever happened. This is possibly the first time TCO's ever done something outside of destruction, which makes this moment special.
Sorry if I over-analyzed this little animation, I love both AvA and AvM too much to not notice these things.

TCO's little montage made me so nostalgic. It somehow perfectly captured that feeling of discovering Minecraft for the first time in 2010. Flying around, exploring caves, even stacking trees to see how high it can go is something I've done back then. Brings back good memories

I like how the Chosen One is willing to sacrifice his stuff for his only friend The Dark Lord. It makes him feel sorta human in a way, that he’s willing to give up things to keep that friendship, even if he really shouldn’t later down the track.

I think the peaceful nature of Minecraft is what might have convinced TCO that taking over the internet is a bad idea. It seems that TCO is enjoying doing something CONSTRUCTIVE instead of DESTRUCTIVE for once.
It taught Chosen there was value in the things he destroyed. Though their goal wasn't to "conquer the internet", they were just having fun. Chosen found another way to do that, I guess.
