Michigan did not want to PAY anyone to come here. This penny pinching bs by our GM is going to doom this team next year. There is no reason to put the team in position they will inevitably be in next year.
The arrogance behind a writer telling fans that their opinions are " absurd" and how they're gonna "educate" people is rich! Part of the fans problems are you writers hyping things up to a fever level then moving the goal post. Sam Webb saying fireworks. Portnoy promising the top QB yearly despite BU there. Hole telling us to wait as better things are coming. And when they announce a Mtn West QB is the answer and some fans cringe. They are absurd and uneducated. Here's the question we should be asking: What does this hire do for us vs Ohio and Oregon? Those are the obstacles to our goal. Our D will be taking a step back next year so no safety net there for QBs. Is Keane that much better than WD without M Graham, WJ, KG and JS? With no Loveland to bail him out? If BU or JD don't pan out or need time, we are in the same spot next year despite a cupcake schedule. Keane is not winning big games for us. I seen him play vs UM live. He's not that good and definitely not lighting up Ohio or Oregon. The formula would've been to bring in moss, tell BU he will be the highest paid intern ala Arch Manning getting sporadic playing time. Build him up while using a real veteran QB to take us to the BIG Championship game. Keane is gutsy but hes not the answer. It's clear now more than ever, BU needs to develop fast.
I can’t wait for the staff to Cade McNamara this. I’m praying Bryce wins the job bc If the team is winning they aren’t making a change until it’s too late. Also you can sit there and say whatever about PFF grades. They’ve graded Ohio States Dline better than Michigans this year….we know which is better. There’s a reason he was Michigans like 8th QB choice.
Some of y’all don’t realize how much of a ceiling we had with Underwood coming as far as our portal QB’s. 1) He’s way better than Davis Warren (whatever that means) 2) He’s familiar with the OC 3) Raises the floor of the QB room and acts as a bridge QB (in case Bryce isn’t ready or he gets hurt god forbid).
He really isn’t expected to at least in the long run. This is just to make sure the QB room is solid. We lost Denegal and Orji…and who knows after spring practice could see Jayden Davis leave. Need to have back ups at least just in case
I can see early in the year Keene starts with Underwood working in and taking over late if it’s a blowout. But Keene absolutely starts game one in my opinion. I don’t think the coaches want to just throw Bryce to the fire. Cause Bryce is very talented but I’m not sure if he is quite ready to lead a team year one. There are still things Bryce needs to get better at.
This next year is a progress year. Keene and Davis will give Underwood competition and enable the new OC to develop his plan. UM should be very good this next season but I'm going to hold my breathe and judgement until I see how the team plays and how the coaches adapt.
It's a down year for portal QBs. There's no question about it. Couple that with the fact that no elite portal QB is gonna come to Michigan for the following reasons: 1. They won't want Bryce Underwood lurking over their shoulder. 2. They just hired a new OC. Nobody knows what this offense will look like next year. 3. Their offensive personnel is still below average in proven talent across the board. 4. Michigan won't pay portal QBs much to come in only for 1 season. Those are legit reasons why Keene is most likely the best we can do. If we had missed on him and Finn, Warren probably stays and starts again next year until Underwood is ready. Do we really want that?
So here are some fun career stats out of all the transferred QBs. Mikey keen has thrown 8,200 yards and 65 TD only ranked 3 star. ⭐ Billy Edward’s 3,330 yards and 19 TD John mateer 3400 yards 32 TD 4 ⭐ Like kormesjoek. 500 yards 3 TD 5 🌟 Fernando Mendoza 4,700 yards 30 TD 4 star ⭐ Malik Murphy 3,400 yards 29 TD 4 ⭐ Connor weegman 2,600 yards 19 TD 4 🌟 Miller moss 3,400 yards 27 TD 5 ⭐ Jackson Arnold 1,900 yards 16 TD 4 ⭐
We werent going to get everything we wanted but I think there are some things to be concerned about with this QB. For one, his playstyle is different from Underwood. Will that hurt the offensive unit as a whole since it would be pulled in two different directions? Next, the number of interceptions. Which I think come from him having tunnel vision. For example, in the MI game it seemed like he wanted to one particular WR and Will Johnson finally made him pay for it with the pick 6.
We were never going to get a big-time guy after paying Underwood 12+ mil. Keene has played in the Chip Lindsey offense and he looked really good (and fearless) playing again us in week one. The disrespect about him or the idea we were getting a Ewers or even a Miller Moss level talent is WILD.
Man it’s like people are forgetting we still have Jayden Davis. I honestly believe we will see him before Bryce. Now don’t get me wrong we may see Bryce mid season or start of 2026 but I have a feeling that the starter is gonna be Jayden Davis in 2025. Just my opinion
Why has everyone forgotten about Jadyn Davis? He was a top 10 QB recruit last year, and positioned to be the guy starting in 2025. I'm very much against them starting a freshman at QB, even if he's a "generational talent." I hope the plan is for davis and Keene to compete for the spot next year, and then rotate young in like they did with JJ his freshman year. Then have davis (assuming he starts 2025) and young compete for it in 2026 like with mcnamara and Mccarthy in 2022.
Probably didn’t progress as a QB as we hoped. It happens with recruits sometimes. Now if Davis progresses this year and earns the starting job everyone in the fan base will be just fine with that. However, the talk around Jayden is not an expectation that he is ready to start next year. This can happen sometimes and it’s why a lot of programs have 5-6 QBs to see who develops lol

Tom Brady's first pass as a Michigan Wolverine was a Pick 6 which he threw against UCLA.
To everyone complaining about this move: Why? The ONLY downside is that it’ll be difficult to pitch some skill players and potential transfers since we don’t know who is throwing them the ball, that’s it and I’d argue if it is explained to them what the approach is here and they still don’t want to come then good. You don’t bring in a guy that is a star and assumed to win the role, that’s how you fracture the already shallow room and piss Davis off while making Bryce think you’re not that confident in him. Also, after shelling out an ungodly amount to Underwood, you’re not going to pay a transfer QB 3 Mil just to mentor and maybe start. You get a proven guy who wants to be there to mentor and push the room at a moderate NIL cost and push either your blue chip sophomore or true freshman to start. Worst comes to worst, this guy wins us 9 games this year and 10 next year with the level of play he brings. You don’t bring in a presumed 3 Mil starter and create friction. Look what Day has done to his QB room.
@@darius8l881 subject that to a multivariate analysis. We also regressed, does that mean we aren’t good? Does that mean you have no faith in us as a program? Why did he regress? His weapons, line, coach…a lot changed on him. And he wasn’t brought in with the intent to start but to help our two potential starters. So what level of faith do you require for that? These are questions people should ask themselves
It’s not that deep bro, we literally just need an experienced guy to start 3 or 4 games until Bryce starts. Hell, Bryce might start right away anyway. Keene is better than anyone we have currently. Worst case scenario we have a good backup who can win a few games if needed.
M is rocking the portal. When it comes to QBs, there was a price to pay when we got Underwood. M was going after guys planning their final CFB stop to polish their NFL resume, they want to be the guy, not being in a freshman's shadow that may take their spot at any time. That limits the options. Get a grip.
Well we will see, but when he says he is accurate just needs to cut the ints down. That's pretty much what we had this year, also we got 1 wr in the portal. Who is bruce throwing it to? So sorry having concerns
@@maize-rageit’s not just accuracy it’s also reading the defense knowing where to throw and then delivering the ball accurately. All things he does a lot better than anyone we had last year.
In terms of 3-deep QB rooms, Michigan goes from 17/18 in the conference to top-5 in one offseason. They’ll have a top-6 starter in Underwood, top-3 backup in Keene and top-3 3rd stringer in either Warren or Davis. Time to turn that OL into a top-5 unit in the B1G.
We could have gotten Miller Moss and all these comments would have been talking a how he sucks and got benched at USC and only ever looked good because of Lincoln Riley.lol good lord people, did you guys not watch the same season I just did with the worst QB play any of us have ever seen? Now we have, at worst, a backup qb better then anyone on the roster this season. And at best an experienced QB who can help Underwood and be a solid starter for us. If we would have gotten someone in the transfer like him last year and had even slightly below average QB play, we would have been 9-3 at least. Instead we were 7-5 because we had absolutely terrible QB play. You need to have a QB room with multiple guys who are at least capable of throwing the ball. This year we had zero.
idk why people expected us to pull an elite portal QB when we have the #1 player in entire country lined up to start at that position. i’m very content with a guy who can at least win us games if he has to and not be a repeat of davis warren. sure he’s nothing special and isn’t gonna win us a natty or anything, but he’s guaranteeing we don’t have a repeat of this year
@DFMusicReviews exactly!! The only guys we were ever going to get were people with one year of eligibility left. And it's hard to land any one year top transfer when other schools can guarantee the starting job to them and that's something we can't do. Fresno State fan, season tickets, good luck to Mikey Keene and Michigan. They can have him. He was frustrating to watch play - it felt like a roller coaster at times.
Dude, it's not only about the money, M wanted a QB with 1-2 years left, meaning their final spot before going pro, they don't want to compete with a stud freshman, they want to be the starter and they're looking for guarantees M just can't give.
We're clearly broke now. Going after Bryce was a huge gamble and we don't know if it'll work out for Sherrone yet. WRs CLEARLY don't care that he's here 😂
What if we had gotten John Mateer with 2 years of eligibility, a couple of great WRs, an excellent RB, and 2 OTs? I think we would be playoff bound the next 2 years but we're missing the playoff again next season bc of the choices that have been made.
Just be honest with the fans please, this portal class is not living up to the expectations at all. If UM does not want to spend money, and they CLEARLY don't, then just say so. The media has to stop pretending that UM is "all in" when they clearly aren't. This signing is marginal at best just like the rest of the portal class.
It doesn't matter who he was ahead of you're looking at analytics. Applying the metric facing in reverse. It doesn't work that way. It's steak on the plate, bro. Where he is now and what he hasn't done against. What the need is and how much of the need? He fits the only need. He fits saying it's a need at all. Is that he actually knows Chip Lindsey's system? That's a short list of walk away with brother, everything else is just nonsense
You’re trying to turn him into something he isn’t. Hes more like 5’10” 190. He’s small. Don’t expect him to compete In the Big 10 when he can’t compete in the Mountain West. His success is due to having some amazing wide outs.
Bc Michigan is gonna make this scrub QB1. He was literally the best they could do. QBs don't want to play at Michigan, JJ was an ultra rare anomaly and Bryce only came we paid more than LITERALLY every other school in the country. Sad state of affairs what this offense has become since the Henne days.
Isaiah, because you like them doesn't make him a fit.... so slobbering and slathering everybody up with a bunch of caveats in advance knowing his bona fides aren't particularly qualified... doesn't make your case. What makes any case for the kid is staying objective? How do you stay objective? By looking at how much of a fit he is out of the box. Organically - is he: 1. Most important he's not a dual threat - and from what we can see, not particularly mobile either, but he can scramble being able to scramble and not at least mobile - that's an issue - no fit 2. Have an arm? practically irrelevant to the RPO scheme, it's run dominant, pass optional - so that's neutral 3. Is he familiar with the coaches system - yes... So out of the short list, there's only one thing that makes him plausible in the least is the fact that he knows chip Lindsey's system. I understand the mechanics behind it. I played the game, but it shouldn't be the only metric to guide weather - the guy is gonna be a benefit or not. They shouldn't be trying to stray away from the reservation of the system. They built just because of AO. C. They hire that used to be AQB coach, which is the exact opposite of what we just got rid of... a position coach that was errantly promoted OC You're gonna have the same situation, but in reverse, that's probably not wisdom right there... But he is familiar with the system, which is a wash, because everybody's gotta learn it anyway. So, in the end, probably not the right way to go.
Great fit for UM. They get a winner, super accurate thrower and he’s familiar with the offense. He’s also good enough to win 9 in this schedule and not good enough to beat out Underwood. Ideal.
@jinorimo6090 You do of course, remember the type system Michigan is running, correct and the scheme. They're operating out of it? Would render half of your acknowledge prerequisites? Entirely moot to begin with. Fact of the matter is he's a marginal fit at best fat. He knows chip Lindsey system is irrelevant since every. One else would have to learn it anyway. You might as well get a quarterback. That fits the system and then and have backups
No top ranked QB in the portal was ever going to come here. Why would they if there is a risk they never even see the field sitting on the bench behind Bryce Underwood if they can go somewhere else they are guaranteed tomorrow start?
Herbrstreit will probably never play a snap for UM and it is sounding like Davis is nowhere near ready. A lot of rumors surrounding fixing his throwing motion or just flat out not being good.
No dude. Your coverage is often great but this is a bad pick up. Nobody can hit homers every swing. This is a miss by Michigan. It’s all good though because any competition for Underwood to sharpen him is good

I don't care who he was ahead of in 21, 22 or 23 and 24 and my concerns is what he going to do with Michigan Wolverine football team in 2025
It's relevant when you consider that he put up those stats on less talented teams
@@DevilsAdvocate0102 Exactly. If he had elite stats against lower competition then I would be a little more excited. His numbers are average. He throws a lot of picks & takes a lot of sacks & does not give you much with his legs. He is more experienced version of Warren & I get Michigan was not going to get a top level guy in the portal because of Bryce but I think they could have done better than the 48th best QB in the portal. Hopefully he proves me wrong.
@@BigDrive88 if he has elite stats he wouldn't be coming here to be the transition guy before Bryce takes over. You're not going to get any top tier guys to come in with the understanding that they are going to get benched by mid season if Bryce is ready.
Keene showed some grit against Michigan in week 1 and had this Michigan fan mighty worried until Will saved the day. Will just read the play that was obviously covered in film session prepping for the game.
Colorado got the 2025 #2 Qb recruit to battle against Kaidon Salter who transferred in from Liberty...Lets be honest, there were better Portal QBs out there but they dont want to come here.
Michigan ain't even trying. This is weak af
Michigan did not want to PAY anyone to come here. This penny pinching bs by our GM is going to doom this team next year. There is no reason to put the team in position they will inevitably be in next year.
Overreaction? Watch Michigan put up our own Quin/Arch combo this next year
Too many cooks spoil the soup. Texas was wavering back and forth all season
This religious zealot's whole identity is about believing in things you can't see 😂
I can’t wait for the staff to Cade McNamara this.
This dude isn't beating Underwood out.
Lol, the last point about Tennessee vs OSU: They looked like they had hired Don Brown as DC.
Corners on islands and all...
I'll Say this...If we get OL Haywood and RB Haynes from Bama...we winnin the Natty next year
This next year is a progress year.
Keene and Davis will give Underwood competition and enable the new OC to develop his plan.
UM should be very good this next season but I'm going to hold my breathe and judgement until I see how the team plays and how the coaches adapt.
Fit matters. And since harbaugh it's always been about fit. He's got experience he's got the numbers he's a good thrower, just a bit small. I'm happy
It's a down year for portal QBs. There's no question about it. Couple that with the fact that no elite portal QB is gonna come to Michigan for the following reasons:
I was impressed with him against Michigan.
MI needs WR's badly-Moore-Morgan are NOT it-Need help-

We were never going to get a big-time guy after paying Underwood 12+ mil. Keene has played in the Chip Lindsey offense and he looked really good (and fearless) playing again us in week one. The disrespect about him or the idea we were getting a Ewers or even a Miller Moss level talent is WILD.
As long as that money is spent on going all out for a line and wr then I’m cool with it.
I think the staff swung and missed that recruitment. You haven't heard a peep from coaches or players about him.
Sorry. At 5’11” I’m not buying it.
Dillon Gabriel is 5’11 u pin head non ball knower
Propaganda machine in full effect.
As long as he can sling it around, and control the ball, I, good. Bryce is gonna be just fine.
Underwood, Keene, Warren, Davis
is a very good QB room in today’s day and age.
This kid is gritty and a good pick
He torched us in that first game …..he really moved the ball when he wanted to
As an outsider (Oreogn fan), is Jayden Davis just a bust? I thought he was the great hope after JJ, but he seems to be lost in the shuffle
He asked for a redshirt and we suffered all year . I don't know if he was ready, but if he was he should have got out there
something looks off about his throwing motion when you watch his reps. it’s starting to look like he might just be a bust or at least transfer
Rumors suggest he is a long ways away. They had to rebuild his throwing motion.
His throwing motions was closer to bowling motion.
Tom Brady's first pass as a Michigan Wolverine was a Pick 6 which he threw against UCLA.
if he’s the right guy for Chips new offense, then I say, bring him on!
Crybabies. Dude has thrown for more yards than we have the past decade
This dude is a checkdown charles.

Love the hat my brother!!!
This whole time told we are going to rock the portal... and this is our qb after what we had this year. Upgrade debatable just sad
@@maize-rageNone of our qbs were accurate. Davis Warren nearly threw away the Ohio State game with some terrible throws.
Who cares. Another clipboard holder. Maybe should have saved some of that NIL money for portal players
He’s played for the new OC. He knows what Keane is.
Will Johnson is a top 5 NFL draft pick... Keene will do well against most college level corner.
thank u. so many people talking about that play as if u play a Will Johnson level corner every single game lol
@lostinthesauce8855 "projected" don't mean shit when he hasn't played a snap of CFB. if he wins it then he wins it and I'll be happy. But Keene is the starter more than likely. He didn't transfer to become a backup.

Budget portal player. Smh thought we were big spending

Organically - is he:
1. Most important he's not a dual threat - and from what we can see, not particularly mobile either, but he can scramble being able to scramble and not at least mobile - that's an issue - no fit
2. Have an arm? practically irrelevant to the RPO scheme, it's run dominant, pass optional - so that's neutral
C. They hire that used to be AQB coach, which is the exact opposite of what we just got rid of... a position coach that was errantly promoted OC
You're gonna have the same situation, but in reverse, that's probably not wisdom right there... But he is familiar with the system, which is a wash, because everybody's gotta learn it anyway. So, in the end, probably not the right way to go.
Stay mad 😂
