Happy to see less piano gloss black plastic. Nothing frustrates me more then so-called luxury brands using that material that scratches and collects dust easily
Bought one a few months ago. It’s the best luxury car I’ve ever owned. It may be a sub compact but it looks and feels large. It rides like a dream. Smooth, with good pickup. The sound system rocks. The entertainment panel is beautiful and fully functional. All voice controlled. The seats heat and cool. The seats massage. What’s not to love?? The price is totally reasonable for what you get IMHO 🎉
Indeed Tom, I'm watching on my 43-inch 4K monitor, sitting about 2 feet back, and really appreciate the 4K content. I usually start windowed at around 1080 or less, but will go full screen to scrutinize interior details. You missed a whisker in your shave...just kidding. Maybe a big screen Cadillac would be great for me too!
Best XT4 review I've seen! I currently own a '21 XT4 Sport and could not be more pleased! At 22K miles, nothing more than oil changes and tire rotations. Don't think I would trade my '21 for a '24. I still like a little analog. And my 13- speaker Bose is the best! Plus mine has red brake calibers that add a bit more sport! I love this vehicle. It's confident, poised and growls when pushed! Great review! Thanks!
Ummm, I allowed my emotions to get the best of me! I now own a '24 XT4 Sport, loaded, and I can tell you Cadillac raised the bar! This vehicle is amazing! Cadillac through and through! Absolutely love it!
We've owned a 2019 XT4 AWD Sport since new, and its been a very good vehicle. Easy and very comfortable to drive, good size for crowded city streets and parking lots, very roomy inside for its over size, and IMO a very good looking vehicle too. Our only complaints involve the AWD system (the vehicle always defaults to FWD, and you have to manually select AWD each time you start it), the Auto Start/Stop (also defaults to on, and you cannot permanently turn it off, which I would like to) and the somewhat dated instrument panel (which is fixed by the 2024 refresh). In terms of issues, its been back to the dealership for premature wear on the driver seat bottom cushion (fixed under warranty), and failure of the light that is seen on the pavement at the back where you kick to hands free open the lift gate (fixed under warranty). Aside from gas, it hasn't cost us anything (oil changes have been free). We are very satisfied with the vehicle, and would buy another one.
Like the choice of the XT4 to review. Nice review. Car reviewers (you certainty aren't the only one) are always complaining about not getting bigger screens, which I'm not sure the general public cares nearly as much, but I wish you would ask Cadillac how to replace that huge 33 inch screen if it goes defective out of warranty.
Currently, that part is over $3500 USD (using the Escalade's as a base) but that price should come down over time. As for HOW to replace it, I'm sure it's a few hours of labor. When you consider that I paid $4k CDN back in 2009 for the option of a small (by today's standards) pop-up nav screen in my CTS, that doesn't seem outlandish to me.
@@DrivenCarReviews Understood. Prices are unavailable for replacement screens in the XT4 or the Lyriq but for some reason are available for the Escalade. Its price stands only as a ballpark.
Tom, once again a great review. I'm so glad when you review vehicles you're objective and you don't have a negative bias toward GM vehicles like so many of the responses i've read here and in other threads. This is probably the best facelift I've seen from GM and other manufacturers in a long time. The exterior already looked amazing but with the new updated front end it looks fresh. The interior with that 33 inch screen in addition to the upgraded materials is now class leading. Yes its the same 2.0 liter turbo engine but the power is basically the same as the competition. One thing is they need a hybrid option. I bet we get the plug in hybrid as an option soon with GM announcing they're bringing back hybrids. GOOD JOB GM!
Thanks. I do my best to be accurate and objective. It's what I want to see in any review of anything. I continue to believe that GMs biggest problem is marketing. It makes some great products, it just doesn't do an optimal job of letting people know what it has. It's also had some wild misses (looking at you Blazer EV and Ultium ramp up in general). Yes, XT4 needs a hybrid option but I have to believe it will only get one with a full redesign (if that even happens). In the meantime there will be the Optiq EV.
Tom i agree with you. It also amazes me how they can completely miss the boat on hybrids up until now. Going from ICE vehicles to Full EV's was a huge mistake. Utter stupidity! On that note i'm a GM loyalist, I love my 2019 Equinox!
The Cadillac XT4 has no turbo lag that I can feel. Every other car that I test drove had turbo lag, whether short or long...Mercedes GLC300 (least turbo lag), BMW X3 (a little more turbo lag), Porsche Macan S (even more turbo lag), Honda (way too much turbo lag). The Cadillac has these features that RUclipsrs miss: - lighted logo behind the dashboard - pulsating safety seat (most cars only beep) - left behind child in the rear seat alert - capless fuel tank (like my 2017 Corvette C7 ) - umbrella storage in the doors (like Rolls Royce) - active noise cancellation (like my 2017 Corvette C7 with Bose) - power passenger seat with lumbar - free 5G hotspot My other car is a 2017 Corvette Stingray in stickshift.
They don't feel its worth it as the difference in power would only be noticed in wide open throttle, and most people in this segment don't accelerate heavily.
Finally, a flat - or rather, curved - screen that does not look ugly and makes sense: navigation in front of the driver. But if it dies, no gauges, no navi, no controls.
We had a 2019. When the lease ended traded it in for a 23 Buick Envision which is basically the same car with a much nicer interior and significantly lower MSRP. The 24 Envision blows this out of the water in bang for buck dollars.
Thanks for pointing some things out, and perhaps you can elaborate. What is the data plan actually for, and what do you mean that android Auto and apple car play is still in some GM vehicles. I will be looking to purchase an XT4 and would like to know. Thx.
You can subscribe to OnStar, that's one subscription. The data plan would give you the ability to use voice commands like "Hey Google, I need a good hamburger" and it would get you directions. CarPlay / Android Auto does much the same thing, and for the time being, it's still in many GM products. GM is phasing those two out for its own system that I found to be pretty darn good.
Did you enable the "surround sound" setting on the sound system? I believe it's off by default. Turning it on really shows the power of the upgraded sound system.

28mpg highway for a car this size seems odd to me. You’d think with a 9 speed automatic they could put in some top gears that really go into overdrive and get the vehicle well over 32 mpg. Especially when it’s so small. Heck, it’s a foot shorter than my wife’s Outback. And 235HP is rather anemic. No wonder it’s slower than my RAV4. That said, there’s no doubt the ride and handling would run circles around the RAV4. But I don’t hafta turn on the AWD.
