😊❤ 3 yrs later ... your post caught my eye!! LOL 😂 I love their cover/upgrade of this song!! Even from their beginning on the tv show The Sing Off the judges always commented on 'how big' they sound! And they were sitting just feet away from the stage and one judge even stopped to count and was like, 'only 5 of you!!' 😉 It's just part of their genius and magic!! 😊❤❤
I thought the African vibe was an incredible choice for this arrangement. They turned a ho-hum Christmas carol into a festive uplifting song. I agree it's the best version of this carol I've heard so far.
In the early part of the video, there are only five people. The choir comes in later. But if you listen to, for example, "Daft Punk" (a Grammy winner), you would SWEAR they have a whole band behind them. But still only five people. And definitely always a capella.
Kevin’s father is Nigerian; I’ve read that he pushed to have the group give this song an African vibe - he didn’t need to do much pushing! His mother is from the island nation of Grenada; an FYI in case you, like me, hear a little Caribbean flair, as well.
Check out the Grammy Award winning "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy". Avi hits one of his lowest notes and Mitch hits one of his highest. It was written for an orchestra, no voices, only instruments, and Pentatonix just says "Oh yeah, hold my beer" and perform it with only voices and no instruments. It is amazing.
Your reaction to this FORCED me to subscribe! This is my all-time favorite Christmas song and this 70 year old white woman from Arkansas can’t understand why more reactors don’t recognize that it’s an African vibe from the very first few notes!!! You caught it on the first syllable of “ee-ya” that you cut off. Even the pronunciation of “o come, all ye faithful” is sung with a clipped cadence that sounds like it’s being spoken by someone from Africa using English as a second language. It all contributes to one of the most joyous and exciting Christmas songs I’ve ever heard. I believe that Kevin was the creative source for this song, drawing heavily on his father’s Nigerian heritage. Whatever or whoever was behind this version of the song, it’s a masterpiece!
Fantastic reaction - yes, you got tears. What a great arrangement with those African intonations and the baseline laid down throughout by Kevin and Avi. Mitch is the tenor that blows one's mind.
When they were on The Sing-Off one of the judges ( Shawn Stockman from Boyz II Men) commented how amazing it is every time they sing because they sound so big and strong but there's only five of them. We are not lying to you and when they sing this song live without a choir they sound just as big and strong as they sound on this recording. I absolutely love their Christmas music because they make it happy! And I love your Christmas intro! It made me really happy!
I was just laughing so hard when you were talking about this song being boring. 😂🤣😂🤣 Kirstin is the girl Avi is the bass with the beard Scott is the tall blond guy and is a baritone Mitch is the little guy with the high voice (his look changes constantly) Kevin is the Beatboxer and sometimes sings tenor
Couldn't sleep and jumped on youtube and found your reaction video. I LOVED IT, this is an oldet video but its almost Christmas again and if you still taking requests I would like you to check out"The Prayer ", just released a few weeks ago and "The Little Drummer Boy " and "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies" thank you⚘
This is my favorite Christmas song except for Mary Did You Know. But...... Hark The Harold Angels Sing is remarkable too! It is worth a try. Thanks for reacting! Happy Holidays!
Yes, you do hear the choir join on the chorus parts before you see them marching in. I don't know why someone else says you don't. It is still all a capella but with the choir added you can get more going on & far fuller sound. Because Kevin's roots on his dad's side are Nigerian, he suggested doing the African beat & chanting to make it more upbeat & fun. (I think mom's side is Carribean? Not 100% sure about that, I could be mixing up him & someone else I read about.)
You really need to review their live performances in order to get the fullness of their talent. Check out their TV Christmas special where they sing Hallelujah live. One of many of the Awesome performances they do of their songs.
I love your Christmas intro. Pentatonix has 6 Christmas albums so they have plenty of Christmas videos. You need to watch some live performances to prove to yourself that it's all them and not anything else except a cello in a couple and a piano in their newest. The choir was not singing with them until they appeared.
Hark the Harold Angels Sing comes really close to this one...and Scott goes for it hard in that one!! I'm not sure if that one has an official video tho. But you could just do an audio reaction to it
I promise, you can't go wrong with these from PTX: God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, Joy to the World, Carol of the Bells, That's Christmas to Me (PTX Original), Thank You (PTX Original)
A different A Cappella group who you should check out is Home Free and thier cover of Do You Hear What I Hear. Tim Foust is the bass who has a massive low register
No pedals. I thought we covered that with the last song? You know what I dont stay with a jerk who keeps calling me and everyone else a liar! Who the hell do you think you are? A Cappella means NO INSTRUMENTS!!!

It was ONLY Pentatonix singing until you actually see the choir shuffling in, and even then they're only on a light "ooh" at first.
There's no body singing with them as of yet! The choir comes in when you see it. You can totally tell when the others come in!
YOU WERE NOT ALONE!
Now, this is a joyful noise unto the Lord. Totally a cappella. The choir only added more voices.
Amen.
Watch Halleluah...blow your mind
You’re the crazy one. That is clearly only them until the choir came in near the end. These are highly talented geniuses in their field
Loved your reaction and loved how it moved you.
I thought the African vibe was an incredible choice for this arrangement. They turned a ho-hum Christmas carol into a festive uplifting song. I agree it's the best version of this carol I've heard so far.
The Prayer is a must listen to
Yes it’s a cappella. And it’s only PTX until you see the choir the first time. They have performed this live with a choir.
You done owe us money.
In the early part of the video, there are only five people. The choir comes in later. But if you listen to, for example, "Daft Punk" (a Grammy winner), you would SWEAR they have a whole band behind them. But still only five people. And definitely always a capella.
The most joyous song ever!!!
Your intro was beautiful!
They did this song the way they did to celebrate Kevin's heritage
Pentatonix has a way of making you so happy that you don't even know you get teary eyed. That's the way it is for me anyway.
Same here❤❤❤
More pentatonix please. They are awesome. More.......more.......more.
Favorite of mine is Scott. Try Mary Did You Know, Amazing Grace, Little Drummer Boy and A Few of My Favorite Things.
Love your disbelief!!

Yes it’s still acapella, there is no instruments, they just have a choir backing them in this song
I agree best Christmas song ever, I really like the addition of the choir on this one.
The BEST version of this song EVER!! PTX knows how to do it like no other. Great reaction. ♥️
Fantastic reaction - yes, you got tears. What a great arrangement with those African intonations and the baseline laid down throughout by Kevin and Avi. Mitch is the tenor that blows one's mind.
They had a choir backing this one. You can see it on the video. Still acapella sing it’s all voices. This is also a nod to Kevin’s Nigerian roots.

youu should react to Mary Did YOU Know and The Little Drummer Boy
Def not boring. I love Avi!
Watch the version they did for the Christmas tree lighting you'll see the choir didn't join them until the ending verses
This is my favorite Christmas song except for Mary Did You Know. But...... Hark The Harold Angels Sing is remarkable too! It is worth a try. Thanks for reacting! Happy Holidays!

Ive seen them do it live and they just danced until the final verse. Then they joined them.
If you want your socks blown off listen to Amazing Grace off of their new album
Snoopy's Christmas vs The Red Baron - The Royal Guardsmen
Was a favorite 45 we played over and over when we were kids.
They make you want to get up and start walking to Bethlehem.
No, dancing into Bethlehem.
You really need to review their live performances in order to get the fullness of their talent. Check out their TV Christmas special where they sing Hallelujah live. One of many of the Awesome performances they do of their songs.

Tom Macdonald is an awesome rapper but not sure he has any christmas songs lol. #hangovergang forever!
No instruments
That screen cover ...... sucks. Very distracting.
No pedals. I thought we covered that with the last song? You know what I dont stay with a jerk who keeps calling me and everyone else a liar! Who the hell do you think you are?
A Cappella means NO INSTRUMENTS!!!
He's being sarcastic because he's in awe of what PTX is able to do. No need to be so nasty.
Sorry to upset you he's right they're just so amazing!!
