Historia amigowego programu do ray-tracingu, LightWave 3D. Film składa się z dwóch części:
1. Historia/History.
Hi, I used to make VideoScape ShowAnim animation demo disks for the Amiga Community.
Starting in early 1987 up until I got my prerelease VideoToaster in Oct. 1989.
(With a very early Lightwave.)
My VideoScape demos were an Automated Light Production. "Lost in Scape", "Too Much 3D", "Buzzed" and the biggie "Automated Light".... ext..
This was a Great Video and has brought back lots and lots of Great Memories of my Amiga 2000. (Which I upgraded about every year.) It was an incredibly fun time and I was able to meet many very talented people....
In a very fledgling industry !
Thank you for adding english subtitles.
Wonderful stuff. I am so used to having to skip non-english voiced content but the addition of subtitles REALLY helped for such great content. Greatly appreciated. You mentioned a part 2.
3:45: (_squee!_) I drew that! It was a demo animation that attempted to illustrate all the new features in Videoscape 2.0, which were:
- New colors (purple and cyan, appearing in the floor),
- "Chrome" polygons (the cube),
- Translucent polygons (the coupe glass and balls),
- Phong-shaded polygons (the coupe glass and balls),
- Z-buffering (the cubes and the Boing ball in the screen).
BTW, it just so happens that I recently wrote a Videoscape object importer for Blender 2.8x and 2.9x. You can find it on GitHub: github.com/ewhac/blender-import-vs3d
Cool!
Great work, thank you for putting together this video and for the ENG subs!
its 2019 didnt use LW for like 10 12 years. And started on amiga inb the 90s. LW saved my life so many times in productions. It had a solid renderer. Especially when FPRIME came later on. I found on YT some 3d music videos that I made with a single computer and lightwave but the oldest one was from 2001 - I wish I had kept all my vintage 3d stuff ...
Now I m an unreal engine / maya freak. I code apps in Swift, Java and C++. Used to work in the VGame industry as an animator and CG artist for years. And directed tons of Music videos. All of that, because I owned an amiga.
Same here, Yann! My introduction to the 3D world was with Imagine on an Amiga 3000, and soon after, LW and VideoToaster on an Amiga 4000 25 Mhz. Now, 26 years after my first contact with an Amiga, I'm a Light TD senior, using Maya/Vray, but and only now, using version 4.1 of Vray I feel that it came close to the versatility that Fprime provided. I miss Fprime (but not so much LW, with its primitive modeling tools) :)
LW looks good event at its oldest versions. I never was close with it (but using Modo), but always liked the interface. Especially the old.
Great video Piotr! Thanks.
Lightwave is back, it was just bought by Andrew Bishop.
Superb work! thank you.
English subs would be great ;)
+José Caneda I added English subtitles today, enjoy.
Fajny film.
"Industrial Might and Logic" ??? Did you mean "Industrial Light and Magic" ?
Two 3D Studio users unlike your video, those fools. :)
english subtitles please..
7:24 Interesting, there is a video here ruclips.net/video/_WH0arC4cDw/видео.html , dating from two years before yours, showing the resurrected Traces code running on an SGI machine. Ton may have lost his Amiga floppies, but he still had files from the SGI era.
Edit: And it seems the Amiga files have been found as well. Try the Amiga version of Traces from here: download.blender.org/source/chest/neogeo/Amiga-software.zip
SGI were the king of high-end 3D graphics, back in the day. Until Windows NT made it possible to run much of the same software (e.g. SoftImage) on much cheaper hardware.
Oh, by the way, _The Last Starfighter_ was not rendered on SGI, but on a Cray X/MP supercomputer.
No English :( This video would have been huge if it was spoken in English.
