  • This video is for the queen of diamonds, English paper piecing quilt block of the month from Tula Pink, pink door fabrics, and free spirit fabrics! Originally this quilt pattern had both sashings attached by machine, but after quite a few requests, pink door fabrics released papers so that you could do the sashing with English paper piecing. A lot of people have asked how to attach them since there is some easing in needed. I posted some stationary pictures, but figured I would do a video when I did my next one so here it is! This is my very first tutorial so hopefully it’s not too confusing but if you have any questions, please feel free to comment below this video. Thanks everyone! I would be happy to create more tutorials for other items. If there is something you’re struggling with also, let me know that in the comments!

    Thank you…I was going to machine sashings on but with how you showed and explained how to hand sew them on I am going to do it the way you have…

      I’m so glad to hear it!! I love that they offered that option because I EPP so I don’t have to sit at a machine! Lol

      Thank you! I am still working on this quilt and have not done all the sashings yet, so I will try to do another video that shows more of the steps as well. That was my first tutorial video ever, so it was not as good as what I’m doing now. Lol but hopefully you get the idea! If you have any questions, I’m always happy to help as well.

    Helpful tip - I use paint brush holders to store my thread. They reduce tangles, great for travel and good for storing other hand sewing things.

    Thank you so much for this video! I just started adding the inner sashing pieces and thought I had somehow cut something wrong. It didn't occur to me that the folded fabric was adding length to the side.

    How do you plan to do the outer border with the diamonds? I love this sashing being so precise right around the "squares" but it's rather daunting to think of EPPing the borders and diamonds time-wise.

    • @athenagwis
      @athenagwis  5 месяцев назад +1

      I do plan on putting them on with EPP right now. But honestly, your question has me thinking that it might be just as easy to sew them on with machine since my blocks will have the precision of the EPP inner sashing. Putting those on with EPP is sounds super boring with the long straight lines lol and I’ve been thinking about that for a little while now.

    Once laid out I write front on the side that faces the fabric.

    • @athenagwis
      @athenagwis  9 месяцев назад

      That is a great way to do it too! I just created a video on how to actually attach the fabrics. I should have it posted soon.

    Are you following the colourway in the book for your sashing…or just doing what looks best with each block?

    • @athenagwis
      @athenagwis  9 месяцев назад

      I am trying to follow the color away on the inside front cover. Since they are shades of color, it’s hard to match exactly but I am using that as a guide.

    I've just finished glue-basting the inner sashing pieces for the triangles (that are only at the top and bottom of the quilt). They are all 1/8" too long. Easing the triangle to the sashing?? The seams would be tugged on. Leave that 1/8" since all of them will be along the top and bottom and can be "dealt with" when doing the final binding? Is anyone else having this problem?

    • @athenagwis
      @athenagwis  5 месяцев назад

      The small triangles do have a good amount of easing to do. It almost felt like the papers were cut wrong. But if you line them up with the middle papers, they are the right size. They’ll tug on the seams for a little bit, but once you take the middle papers out, they should be fine. I think those little triangles were the worst part about doing this EPP, but like I said, once all the papers are out, it won’t have any more strain on it.
