I've got a similar lookin Yamaha A/V amp from the same era. 'A little bit lacking in detail' is a very diplomatic way of putting it. "could I listen to it all day..." (pulls face) well, there ya go. I've a Technics 'A-Class' stereo amp from a similar vintage badly in need of restoration. Even in the poor state of disrepair it's in - kick's the Yamaha's ass. All day too, without a break except for the left channel dropping out all over the place ; )
@@EggBastion yeah, it’s not a bad amp. When you consider what they can be picked up for, it’s a good buy. It’s always hard to describe, as quite often it’s personal taste. But I try to compare it to others I’ve listened to. Hopefully you can get the technics sorted soon 😎
I have more than 10 older yamaha recievers. I got them all pretty cheap. I like them all, maybe its just me but i think certain ones have better bass than others. overall, the build quaity is incredible. I like the RVX units with the bass and treble knobs. not so into the HTR theatre units they produced. specs on them not as good. im using stuff 27 years old and it plays like new. I do run a fan on top of every unit i use to keep it cool. heat kills electronics and some of them do run hot when you pump the volume. I have an older technics SA 700, i would say its sound is richer than the yamahas. i would call the yamahas neutral. what do i know though, i just listen to the music and enjoy it. I will say this - i bought one of those JBL party box encores - the bass is unreal and the sound is incredilbe. I dont know how JBL does it. absolutely fantastic bluetooth speaker. it has a better sound than some of my stereo speakers.
@@bigd835 thanks for adding the comments, nice to get more info with the video. I’m no audiophile or anything like that, I just try to give my view on how it sounds to me. It’s definitely not a bad amplifier, just not as nice sounding to me as others I’ve listened to. However, for the current used price, I would definitely have it. I haven’t had a lot to do with Yamaha stuff, but I’m sure there is some lovely equipment available from them. The actual physical build quality seems really good on this one.
