Great video as always I'm still shocked Bookworm History doesn't have way more subs and views, because the channel certainly deserves it. A similar exploration of Washington would undoubtedly turn up interesting answers also, given that it was built by a freemason architect under the supervision of Washington himself, also a freemason. You can actually see various streets coming together to take the shape of various freemason symbols with specific buildings at crucial points (for instance you can make out the "all-seeing eye" pyramid shape in one district, and where the center of the eye would be, stands the freemason library. So it would be interesting to see what the original center of Washington was to see if it also has similar significance, and whether or not it has been affected by any subsequent expansion.
Thanks so much! I would love to expand to doing videos about other cities, and if I'm ever able to Washington, DC would be at the top of the list!
Hello, I have noticed that your last upload was 8 month ago, and I hope that you will do more videos. Your work reflects great dedication and deep interest, and it's fascinating in that it exposes the viewer to diverse ideas and works. The last 6 months my work on them has slowed down, as you say, because of the hussle of life. But I'm continuing to work and hope to get some new content out soon!
Regarding smallest encompassing circle. What this practically means that any point you may pick at random in NYC will be no farther in distance from Parade Place & Crooke Ave in Brooklyn than 29.5 km. Places could be as much as 50 + km apart at any other points in NTC

I thought you would be talking about the historic center of NYC, which would be the place where it all started: Fort Amsterdam, build in 1625 somewhere in the middle of the city New Amsterdam at the south point of Manhattan.

I’ve never heard of that marker in Woodside. Interesting. Since more than one source chose a location in Bushwick, I’m fine saying it’s somewhere between each of those points.
... Upon more sober reflection of the matter I came to conclude that the moral of this episode, if given by the experts cited would be.. Something like "Give me ambiguity, or... Uh,... Give me something else!"

Loved this video, but with one minor complaint: at 2:09 you say that the lower 48 states are the "continental United States", but you meant "contiguous." Alaska is part of North America, after all. :-)

One measure of a center of an area is the center of the smallest radius circle that may encompass the entire land of an area. Prove it to yourself for the Five Boroughs. Use Google Earth or other program or app to draw an approximately 29.5 km radius circle centered at the intersection of Parade Place and Crooke Avenue just south of Prospect Park in Brooklyn. Let me know if that’s the nearest intersection to the center of the smallest enclosing circle that encompasses all of NYC land area. The center depends on the points in NYC land area. The two northern points the circle touches that I found where the NYC-Yonkers boundary meets the Hudson River, and a point on Hog Island just north of Hunter Island off The Bronx in Long Island Sound. Where’s the third point of land the circle touches? Let me know what you turn up and whether or not I’m barking up the wrong tree in Prospect Park-by the way-I’m in Seattle, Wa
