Great reaction! BIGBANG debuted in 2006 with "LaLaLa". It's actually been 4 years since their last digital single "Flower Road" came out before they all enlisted & 6 years since their last album "MADE". Also, I've always thought that Yedam resembled Daesung too! Lol. The other song, "Good Boy", that Hyunsuk & Jihoon covered is by 2 of the BIGBANG members. You should react to the original songs that they covered as an introduction to iKon & Winner.

they can release anything without sounding awkward. people gladly accept whatever Bigbang releases because they know the quality of Bigbang's songs is always the best in terms of musicality, instrumental and lyrics.

Im a VIP more than 11 years.
"Still Life" is very meaning full song for us. They keep the promise. Flower Road lyrics said that they will meet us again when flower bloom, Still Life was released right on first spring day in korea.
    Bigbang finally come back.
This is their first official comeback after 6 years (MADE full album 2016).
Bigbang went a lot of Kmedia bullshit in past 5 years. Some people thought Bigbang will never coming back or their cb gonna flop.
You know what, Kings are back and still many people waiting for them.
Still Life is #1 everywhere in chart.
That fact that this released in midnight is crazy that still top chart.
I can't wait to see GD split some fire on Kmedia soon.

Keep in mind that "cultural appropriation" is mainly an American societal issue. Most places around the world don't even know or even care. Not to mention that it's a fairly new issue. So back dating "cultural appropriation" to a time when it wasn't really known in certain parts of the world outside America is not ideal. It's only when kpop became more popular with American audiences that cultural appropriation became an issue.
Also keep in mind tge difference between the true definition of "Cultural appropriation" vs. "Cultural appreciation".
    Just something to think about.

Also, taeyang and g-dragon, before debuting in Bigbang, they orginally wanted to be a hiphop/rap duo. and that is because they were both heavily influenced and inspired by black artists during their younger years even up to now. So I think taeyang just appreciates the culture so much he wanted to try their style. and thats ok

    • @devil_akira1191
      @devil_akira1191 2 года назад +11

Yep. That's why I sometimes go 🤨🤨🤨 when people start throwing CA issues when they see someone looking like someone else's culture. Like, is it wrong to appreciate other culture and show it? If that's the case, then there is no need for all of us to study and learn other cultures aside from our own. They make a big deal out of it and expect everyone to do the same. 🤷🤷🤷

    • @cassiehouse2893
      @cassiehouse2893 2 года назад +8

I mean if they’re going to rap which is the biggest culturally iconic thing to black culture then why can’t they wear the hairstyle and clothing as well. So many black ppl react to them and they actually compliment the hair. Black artists respect them so I don’t think we shld get upset about something that doesn’t seem to be an issue for anyone but those that want an issue. These guys are exceptionally diverse and inclusive which I think is perfectly shown in their diverse styles. That’s why artists like Missy Elliott, Pharrell Williams, and their own band respect them so much.

    • @GuildElites
      @GuildElites 2 года назад +2

And how about just saying "the whole concept of cultural appropriation is bs"?
The amount of things that black people culturely appropriated from other "races" (wording people use, not me), and no one's calling them out because nobody cares. Well they do care when is white people obviously (or I should say, when its their own "culture" being "appropriated").
Reality is the world dates back so many years than everyone has been appropriating everyone. Calling out Taeyang cause he wanted to stylistically use dreadlocks is ignorant.

    • @aliyaschlosser1369
      @aliyaschlosser1369 2 года назад

it's not alone an American societal issue. It's that a lot of other places are not quite informed enough about other cultures and do it merely out of ignorance. It's not necessarily out of bad intentions, but also not necessarily informed. I think no matter where you are from, you should consider what could be helpful or unhelpful to other cultures.

what makes BIGBANG's music so respected and admired in the music industry is how they compose their music with new unique melodies, tones, instruments and genre blending.
Even their lyrics are difficult for Koreans to understand and difficult to translate into English.
because they use a lot of metaphors, references and words play that require more understanding.
even the art professor at the university revealed how different BIGBANG's song lyrics are.
G-Dragon is even called the Composer Monster.

Yes BigBang leader created the official lightstick concept . Before them fans used colored ballons . At debut BigBang had bandanas for fans. The official name is Bang Bong but we call it the VIP Crown, is based on the lotus flower. BigBang had many ups and downs in their 16 years. Fantastic Baby was a comeback after hard times and this is why you see them frozen , chained , GDs hair grew long , TOP is trapped in a painting , fans fight haters who want to stop BB music . Monster is dedicated to the fans who left them and believed all the bad things said about them . GD and Taeyang have many tattoes but not all from the MV are real . Taeyang has now Passion written on his chest

"Last Dance" was literally BigBang's last dance in 2016 before they went on hiatus, as the members started to enlist in the military. It's all about how they don't know what the future will hold or if they will be back again after they are discharged. It was a final goodbye for them. The song is them talking to VIPs (BigBang's fans).
And then "Still Life" is their newest song that was just released, their first comeback in almost 6 years. The first time they came back as a group since being discharged and going through several major life changing events. It's a new chapter in all of their lives. Taeyang got married right before he enlisted and his wife and him just had a baby boy in December, so the group dynamic is changing and evolving just like the ever changing seasons. In the MV each of the members represent a different season. Although we are excited that they finally made a comeback, if you pay attention to the lyrics it's almost as if this is actually a goodbye song. They fulfilled their promise to VIPs that they would greet us again after they were discharged, but does that mean they will continue as a group? We just have to wait and see.

BigBang are also the ones that started the hair color trend. They are one of the biggest reasons why K-Pop is so popular internationally. Also, they were always the “rebel” type of bands. They show things in their music videos that normal K-POP bands won’t show.
Also, they have a good mix of high tempo songs and low/slow tempo songs. But their slow songs usually get really popular, because no other k-pop band does Ballads like they do. :)

What you are probably most used to are third and fourth generation groups. BigBang is a second generation group. Second gen. is way different from third gen. Which is why you see such a difference in the dynamic of the groups when you compare second and third gen.
Second generation has always been the era where it was/is common practice to have girls in their MVs and as their backup dancers, etc. Second generation fans are used to the fact that they interact with girls and woman all the time, so we have no problem with them having girls in their MVs.
However, third generation groups are from an era where the Kpop industry sort of insulated them and made it appear as if they never interact with anyone of the opposite sex. If you notice, most of the time whenever pretty much any third generation group or artist is around someone of the opposite sex, we hardly ever see the other person's face or see them interacting together. Third generation was when the Kpop industry decided to take the Idol image up to the next level and make it appear as if the idols were solely devoted to their fans and that they never have any outside distractions.
Second generation, on the other hand, was when the Kpop industry really hit its stride and this era was a lot more about the interactions between the groups and how it was just one big happy family. With second generation they were all just groups and artists, it didn't matter what company they were from or what their music style was or whether they were a girl group or a boy group, they were just all part of the same industry and everyone got along. We very rarely even talked about what company a group was from back then, because it didn't matter.
Third generation is where everything became more exclusive and it mattered what company a group or artist was from. It became all about a group's popularity and how they had to be better than everyone else. Everything became much more about cliques and it's more about an appearance of competitiveness and the importance of someone's status and rank within the industry. It's all about who is better than who. It's very much reflective of society in general these days.
Third gen. is always having to prove themselves and to show their worth by being better than everyone else. Where second gen. doesn't have to prove anything anymore, their popularity and standing doesn't waver just because they aren't the top seller with their last comeback or they didn't win every award under the sun. (I mean all those things are great and it's meaningful when they win, but that's not what second gen. are all about.)
You can even see a difference in their fandoms. Second gen. fandoms get along with each other and they are friends with all the fandoms. If you were a fan during second gen.'s heyday then you know all the second gen. groups and artists, and even if you aren't a super fan of a curtain group or artist, you probably still are a fringe fan. Where third generation fandoms are much more exclusive, and they more often are competing with each other to prove who is better. For people who didn't get into Kpop until third generation, you see a lot less mixing of fandoms. For example, it almost feels taboo to say you're a fan of BTS and EXO in the same sentence without feeling like you need to qualify that statement by letting people know you have more love or passion for one group over the other, etc.
Unfortunately, the industry has changed, but it really explains why you see and feel such a difference with second generation groups and artists compared to third and fourth generation.

Bigbang realised a long time ago that when you do large concerts people are too far from the stage to see the choreo so they concentrate on singing and interaction with the fans . This also alows them more freedom of movement on stage and to make little changes so performances are not identical . Their performances feel more natural not being restricted by choreo . Last dance and Still life are songs for fans . Is hard for you to really feel it because you have no idea how hell this hiatus was and the amount of hate and attacks we had to endure . TOP almost died .Is really a miracle BB survived because it felt like the entire Korea wanted them and YG dead . Still Life comes to heal us . If you want to know how hard this idol life has been for them listen to a lyric video of Still Alive . The song has no MV

I know a lot of new fans/new listeners to BigBang get confused with with the lyrics in "Fxxk It"- in the chorus, they are saying '에라 모르겠다' (eh-ra myeo-reu-gae-da) which roughly translates to like 'eh, I don't know' or 'oh, whatever' which it similar in meaning to 'fuck it'. But in the chorus they do also say 'I wanna get down' which does sound similar with my boys pronunciation.

BigBang's "Monster" was released in 2012 after the group went through several scandals so they were making a statement that I am human, I made some mistakes, but I am not a monster. This song came out after Daesung (The one that almost always has his hair covering his eyes -- blond in this MV) was in a car accident and a motorcyclist was killed, fans started to boycott the group. He spent a lot of time out of the public eye and went through a lot of depression. Also around that time, GD (Most often the one who will have crazy colored hair -- red hair with the horns in this MV) was caught with marijuana in his system. He was questioned by the police and could have potentially been sent to jail for it. (In Korea any type of drug is considered a high offense and you can get in big trouble. GD was lucky that YG Entertainment stepped in and helped him avoid legal trouble.) So before this song came out, the group was on a kind of hiatus and they weren't looked at very favorably by Korean society. Many called for BigBang to disband. So "Monster" was their comeback, call out song to tell people "we understand what we did was wrong, but we are not the monsters you make us out to be," etc. Which is why you see them breaking out of prison and having to dodge all the bombs and bullets, etc. It's all a metaphor for what they had to go through in life to redeem themselves.

Do you know why South Koreans generally don't like idols? It's because they always do the same thing. In the early days, people got tired of all the similarities that idols are doing, which includes other annoying reasons that made people look down upon them. And even today, most idols are ignored by the majority.
BIGBANG was an exception from the majority of idols. It's because they were different. They had better potential and they exude an energy that others don't have. They didn't need to look superior or perfect. They didn't need choreography to impress us. They were relatable to the crowd too. Their earliest songs didn't resonate with the population, but personally, I like that old western sound. When G-Dragon made LIES, introducing a new sound in the music industry... That's when people realize not all idols act like robots or puppets or manufactured barbie/ken dolls.

"Last Farewell" was released in 2008 which was 2 year later, and this was the song and album where they really started to gain major success. "Last Farwell" is the main track on their Hot Issue album which the entire album was wrote and produced by G-Dragon, the group's leader. They love to engage to the audiance and so some freestyle dance on stages. Their stages are amazing. Also, Bigbang songs are mostly produced, composed and wrote by themselves and often credited as first composer and writers. Right now, many groups claim that they write their own music, but they only write the lyrics and their name are located at the very last place when it comes to credit.

"Haru Haru" was also wrote by G-Dragon as part of their third extended play album, Stand Up, which came out in 2008 as well.
So here is how I interpret the story in BigBang's "Haru Haru" MV. First off it's not a love triangle like some people first think. T.O.P was doing the girl a favor and they were trying to spare GD the pain of watching his girlfriend die. The girl and GD were in love and the girl got sick and she knew she was dying. She didn't want to put GD through the pain of seeing her get sicker and die, so she figured the easiest why for him to get over her once she was gone was to make him mad at her. So she came up with a plan and asked T.O.P. to "please act like you have feelings for me and that you are stealing me away from GD."
Essentially, the girlfriend was thinking that, "If GD is mad at me it will be easier for me to say goodbye and for him to get over me once I am gone." So T.O.P reluctantly plays along. That's why GD is so angry because he thinks his best friend is betraying him; and that's why T.O.P acts so smug to make GD believe the role he is supposed to be playing.
In the end, though, everyone realizes that GD needs to know what is happening and he should be there to say goodbye, so Taeyang goes against the girl's wishes and calls GD to tell him the girl is in the hospital and he needs to get there right away. When GD gets to the hospital T.O.P tells him what was really going on and explains that the ring he exchanged with the girl and the "proposal" he witnessed was all an act and the couple ring was really meant for GD. The girl never stopped loving him and they were all doing this to try and protect him from the pain of losing her, etc. The sad thing is GD didn't make it in time and the girl ended up dying on the operating table.
What you saw was a flashback of what it was like when GD and the girl were happy in their relationship. When you saw her cry and smile she was sad remembering the happy times in her life, which included GD. It wasn't the future, but it was the past. Or maybe what she wished she could have had if she had lived long enough.

🚨A brief explanation background of the song Monster, Last Dance & Still Life🚨
🔹Monster was released on 2012 ALIVE album alongside with Fantastic Baby. Monster is song for VIPs who left Bigbang because of all the scandals that happened to BB in 2011. Monster tells about Bigbang is humans too, they can make mistakes.
[Fun fact: all songs on ALIVE album are Title. no one has ever done this]
🔹Last Dance is a special song for VIPs. more like a promise song and a temporary goodbye song because TOP will be enlisting in the military and the other members will join the following year. Thats why on MV TOP so emotional.
they also released the single "Flower Road" while 4 of the 5 members were in the military. This song is also a special fan song.
🔹Still Life is a promise-fulfilling song from the songs Last Dance and Flower Road.
the lyrics say that Bigbag will return in spring when the flowers bloom, Still Life was released right on the first day of spring in Korea.
if calculated from the last official comeback as a group (MADE Full album) then VIP has been waiting for 6 years for Still Life.
I can't talk about all the hidden messages and korean play in the lyrics of this song, it could take an hour LOL. Many expressions are difficult to translate into English.
[fun fact: Still Life the Korean title literally translation for 4 seasons, spring summer fall winter]

Just a fun fact: Love Song with the lyrics "I hate this love song" had an interesting story. G-Dragon wrote the song in the context of a lover dying in an accident and when love songs are played, they hate it as they are remindes of their loss. That is why the music video shows all of them walking through with all the burning vehicles as if processing the death and loss expressing that they hate this live song. In context, the lover died through a car crash.

"Bang Bang Bang" came out in 2015 and it is one of BigBang's most well known songs. The theme of this MV is similar to the movie Mad Max.
    > The guy without the shirt standing on the van is Taeyang, vocalist and main dancer.
    > The cowboy and the astronaut are the same guy who's name is T.O.P., main rapper.
    > The guy in the sand is Sungri, maknae and lead vocalist.
    > The guy with the red hair is the leader and King of all Kings named G-Dragon, who is the songwriter and a main rapper, etc. (Pretty much the guy all Kpop rappers and everyone in the industry looks up to.)
    > The guy with his hair covering his eyes is Daesung, main vocal.
The female dancer GD is tethered to on the leash in "Bang Bang Bang" is Parris Goebel who is from New Zealand and she is the choreographer for this song, and pretty much the majority of BigBang's songs. She is known as "BigBang's choreographer".
The song's called "Fxxk It" so they are literally saying we don't care what you think of us. Why the TV and the magazines they are looking at are all blurred out is because they are looking at adult content. (I think you can figure out what that might be LOL.) "Fxxk It" was one of BigBang's last comeback's from 2016 before T.O.P. -- the rapper with the pink hair -- enlisted in the military -- he was the first of the members to enlist -- so the song was a sort of swan song for the group as they prepared to go on hiatus as all the members enlisted over the next year or so. It was pretty much them saying we're no longer going to care and we're just going to have fun, because who knows what will happen to the group by the time we are all discharged.
BigBang are known for pushing boundaries and not caring about shocking people. They have a raw sense of humor and you will see in their MVs such as "Bae Bae," "Loser" and "Zutter," for example, that their videos and songs are more adult than the average Kpop group.
If you think their MVs are hype, just wait until you see them perform these songs live, they are just as mind blowing, if not more, live than they are in their MVs, and they have just as many or more people on stage with them in their live performances as they do in the MVs.
As you can see by the comments, BigBang is a group the warrants a closer look and time spent on checking out their extensive discography. They are an OG group that all other Kpop groups look up to and they are one of the groups that EVERYONE respects. They are one of the founders that made Kpop an international success. BigBang are the leaders of K-hip-hop and one of the most successful Kpop groups of their time. They are the group that made YG Entertainment one of the big three entertainment companies alongside SM and JYP. BigBang literally made YG what it is today.

Haru haru has a very classic kdrama-ish narrative, the girl was dating gd, they were in love, but she was diagnosed with cancer, so she coordinated with his friends a lie to broke up with him and date his friend top, because she wanted gd to not love her anymore so he won't suffer when she dies, but when she was about to go into a surgery that most likely would kill her one of the friends, taeyang, couldn't keep the lie and called gd to tell him everything. But when he arrived it was too late 😂 that mv was a huge hit that's when bigbang became a kpop powerhouse in south korea.

Last Dance was filmed that way because it's related to the song message. So much to say. Sigh. But thanks for checking them out. Enjoyed rewatching the MVs with you.

BANG BANG BANG is an anthem. South Korean goverment even choose that song as a part of South Korea propaganda to North Korea in response to their nuclear tests back in 2016, it was played on loudspeaker and broadcast all over North Korean borders.
    heres some facts about them;
    1. Bigbang is the first group to start writing and producing their own music. G-Dragon is the first idol to do it. After that agencies started giving their idols chance to do it. He still in the top 4 for most credited Kpop artists despite of their 4 years hiatus.
    2. Bigbang is the first one to have official lightstick. G-Dragon designed it. Since then all fandoms followed it and now every fandom has their own lightstick.
    3. They are the first group to have a rapper. And T.O.P is the first underground rapper turned idol in kpop.
    4. Bigbang is the first boy group to dye their hair bright unusual colors, like pink, blue, neon green, orange. G-Dragon set that trend, starting from blonde until everything. Brown was the color limit for boy group back then, and now everyone dyed their hair into different colors every comeback.
    5. Bigbang is the first group that let their members to have a solo careers without disbanding. Before bigbang, groups always disbanded or the member just left if one of them wants to pursue their own career. But Bigbang showed that they can have a solo career whilst still being in the group.
    6. G-Dragon is one of the first kpop artist to collaborate with western artist. G-Dragon's collaboration with Flo Rida back in 2009. He even got a song with Missy Elliot.
    7. They are the first kpop group to win an international award. In 2011, they won MTV EMA. They beat Britney Spears that day.
    8. They inroduced the concept of Mini Album to kpop. Back then it was only a single or album.
    9. G-Dragon is the one who made kpop idol airport fashion trend.
    10. And to this day G-Dragon is still the only soloist from idol groups to win Artist of the Year/Daesang.
    11. etc..
Theyare your idols idol, you can mention any kpop group and i can assure you that they're admire Bigbang. They earned the title "king of kpop" and labeled "Legend" for many reason.

Some music enthusiasts think low of Kpop because most Kpop groups are generic, typical sing and dance .. BIGBANG breaks that perception ..They always offer something new on the table, unlike other groups who stick to a formula just to achieve sales and charts. BIGBANG's diversity is unparalleled in Kpop, they do different genre whether it will be a hit or not .. and that's call maturity..

thanks for reacting to Bigbang! they are pioneers of many things we take for granted as normal in kpop now, including the light stick, coloured hair, crazy fashion and idols being able to produce their own music. YG has always been a hiphop focused company, their first group was a duo called Jinusean, and GDragon and Taeyang actually showed up in some of their videos (see A-Yo and Phone Number) but Bigbang were YG's first idol boy group that were born from a survival show (do you see where the blueprint started haha). the fact that most male idol groups have one deep voice rapper and one higher tone rapper is also definitely Bigbang's influence because of the absolute success of GDragon (higher tone rapper and the main composer, writer and producer of Bigbang songs) and TOP (the original deep voice rapper and also the first underground rapper turned idol). Bigbang are probably more well known for their hype club songs, but they do incredibly solid emotional ballads. It's funny how you said you thought Bang Bang Bang would have been big in the western world because it was! Bigbang did a world tour with that album and outsold Taylor Swift's world tour iirc which gives you a sense of exactly how big they were. Also side note, when Psy broke into the western music market with Gangnam Style, he was under YG then 😁

BIGBANG are an ICON in our music industry. A LEGEND. They have been dubbed as the KINGS OF KPOP for a very long time. (Nowadays, our local media call them the Emperors of Kpop). Take note, they aren't called KINGS because of popularity alone. Think of a KING that leads, make changes and help their kingdom prosper. That's what BIGBANG did for the idol industry.
Bigbang, the OG kings of kpop who changed the whole of kpop industry to what it is now (for example Bigbang and their leader GD (G-
Dragon) were the first ones to write and produce their own music so our boys BTS and others can write and produce their own music). They were HUGE in South Korea and internationally before streaming, social media and RUclips.
Taeyang debuted with BB in 2006 so he's been in the industry for a long time and he and BigBang have so many good songs. Bigbang was and is a huge influence for younger idols, they are the blueprint. BTS members have said many times that BB are their idols and role models. Jimin especially adores Taeyang.

Haru Haru - the actress is now a top actress in Korea. On the MV, the girl and TOP pretended to be together to get GD to move on because the girl has cancer.
It was a trend in mid to late 2000s to add a story on the MVs. The ones with the best plot twist became viral -- (It started with K.I.S.S. - Because I'm a Girl). That was how non-Koreans discovered Korean music. Music videos became viral on RUclips.
One of those music videos that went viral and brought locals to kpop is Taeyang's Wedding Dress (Bigbang). There are a lot of original kpop fans who got into kpop because of Wedding Dress.

Big Bang really was the main one who made Kpop what it is today: How you see Kpop idols now... believe it or not, to be an idol before Big Bang was looked down upon because it's like "oh, you couldn't succeed in society so you resort to entertainment". And BECAUSE of that perspective, society at the time believed you HAD to LOOK pretty or handsome to succeed.
Big Bang was actually initially criticized as being the ugly boy band when they debuted in 2006 because they did not fit the standards of beauty for males at the time. They stood out SPECIFICALLY BECAUSE GD had so much direct control/influence in the music-writing and producing of their songs. Other than that, many other idols were seen as just singing someone else's songs and were not competent with any other skill besides singing, dancing, and looking good - a negative perception that existed for a long while until 2014 when that started losing it's hold.
If you watch Show Me The Money, that idol "stigma" stuck, especially in comparing Kpop rappers with hip hop rappers. Idol rappers were still seen as at a lower level until Zico, Bobby, Mino, and B.I came along with Bobby winning the 3rd season.

    🚨Haru Haru MV storyline:
Bigbang has taught VIP to be mature from the very beginning. At such a young age they give VIP a crazy plot twist.
Haru Haru MV storyline is a typical Kdrama story. I grew up watching this kind of kdrama lol (btw I'm not Korean at all).
storyline: at first GD thought his girlfriend (Min Young) and TOP were cheating on him. the five of them are best friends. GD gets very angry and disappointed. Min Young actually knows that she has cancer. She doesn't want GD to be sad if he will lose her later. Min Young asked TOP and other members for help to create a fake situation so that GD would hate her. so that later if she dies GD will not feel too lost.
her condition is getting worse, GD also seem can't to forget Min Young. The other members could no longer keep secrets from GD and ended up telling him everything. TOP apologized to GD because he lied, Min Young actually really love GD. TOP returns GD and Min Young's couple rings (in Korea it's common for couples to have a couple's ring, like a anniversary ring)
as you can see at the end of the video, it's too late.
BIGBANG is good at making songs with happy beats but sad lyrics. You will dance happily but will cry later after you know the lyrics translation.
please react to: "VIP - the most savage fandom in kpop"
the reason VIP is so different from other fandoms is here. you might be surprised because you rarely see this in your KPOP comfort zone.
these are some proofs that Bigbang is an untouchable group. the public still love them and some media hate it LMAO.

'Still Life' Korean title is '"Spring Summer Fall Winter"' which makes sense as each member represents in the M/V. The lyrics also say a lot about each of their past/current states.
The 4 "empty" chairs I guess have a deeper meaning, given one officially left the industry. And of course, one of my favorite parts is the crowd from one of their concerts.
