  • Douglas Continues in his series on the Ten Commandments with the fourth commandment: “Remember to keep the Sabbath day holy. Do all your work in six days. But the seventh day is a sabbath to honor the Lord your God. Do not do any work on that day. The same command applies to your sons and daughters, your male and female servants, and your animals. It also applies to any outsiders who live in your towns. In six days the Lord made the heavens, the earth, the sea and everything in them. But he rested on the seventh day. So the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy."
God wants us to rest. He set an example for us during the seven days of Creation. God made the whole universe in six days, and on the seventh He rested. God didn't rest because He was tired, He rested to set an example for us. It is very important to God that we rest. Douglas family observes the sabbath (God's day of rest) on Sunday, the same day they have church. So every Sunday his family goes to church and then when they come home they have a day of rest. They don't do any chores or any homework or anything that isn't fun or restful. Douglas' dad turns off his work phone, his mom makes their Sunday meals on Friday or Saturday and puts them in the fridge so they'll be ready to eat, and they leave any dishes for Monday. The Bible talks specifically about the sabbath being on the seventh day of the week, and so many people observe the sabbath on Saturday. But Douglas is pretty sure that it's more important to God that we take a day of rest than what day we take it on. For example, Douglas' pastor observes the sabbath on Friday, because he has a lot of work to do on Sunday. So every Friday his pastor takes time off to rest and spend time with God. God loves you, and He knows what's best for you, so lets all do what we can to get the rest that God has planned for us.
