Kyrie has missed 22 games, Exum 25 games, Green 21 games, Lively 19 games, and 37 games for Kleber. Despite all that, Luka kept his team’s playoff hopes alive when the injuries were at their worst, they’re now 2 games behind the 4th seed. When these guys were all healthy (apart from Green), the team is 19-6 (that’s a 62 win pace season). 34/9/10 on top of all that? Luka is my MVP for sure

To be fair though he’s smart with his upload schedule he always gives those takes in April/March. It's Luka. They are within sight of the 4th seed and the only reason they aren't there already is because of the ridiculous injuries they had pre trade deadline. He was playing HEAVY minutes night in and night out to keep the Mavs afloat when they were consistently missing 2-3 starters every game, and he was putting up 35 point triple doubles a lot while doing it. His averages are out of this world, he had statistically the 2nd best game of all time behind Jordan (73 points!), broke the record for consecutive triple doubles... and so much more this season. Last night he basically ended the rockets in the first quarter, a team who were on an 11 win streak and the hottest in the NBA. Jokic is having a great season but Luka is just on another level this season. He absolutely deserves it.
The mavs are only 2 games up on the suns and they the 8th seed. There’s still a world where they loose in the playin miss the playoffs completely if that happens would he still be your mvp or does seeding matter?

I really hate the position Giannis is in because, by all accounts, he's having an incredible year - on par with his previous MVP seasons. Unfortunately for him, I think it really is between Jokic and Luka. With the Mavs finally healthy and winning consistently, I don't see how Luka shouldn't win. The only argument against him this season has been "he doesn't win enough." Dallas is now the 5 seed with a shot at 4th, and they're 11-0 in the last 11 games that Luka has played.

THe thing that has impressed me most about Luka this last month was his numbers dropping was a good thing actually. The synergy between him and Kyrie has grown to a level, I admit, I never thought was possible. They were actually able to move on from "your turn/my turn". I think that shows to us he does have what it takes to play with another star. And this star was someone almost no one thought would snyergize well with him.
One thing that make me sure Luka & Kyrie would work just fine is when Mark Cuban said Kyrie understand that it is Luka's team. And knowing how ball dominant Luka is, basically no superstars would team up with him unless they know and understand that they will be the 2nd option and that's what Kyrie did when he resign. On the other side, Luka is smart enough to give the ball to any teammates that is on a hot streak. Doesn't matter if it's Kyrie, THJ, Exum, Gafford, etc. If he know that his teammates is hot he will gives them the ball.

Honestly I’ve never been more torn for an mvp race, for me Giannis, Luka, and Jokic all have equally good cases
I'm a Mavs fan, so I'm obviously biased. Both have a great case rn. If the Nuggets are the 3rd seed and Luka is 4th or 5th I think Luka should take it. There was not a lot of narrative about the Mavs injuries but we've been fucked by injuries all year long.
As Jokić fan I think if seeding goes how you say Lula might get all votes even as 6th seed of Denver doesn't get first I will be very scared. I will say this if Luka wins over Jokic I'll be sad but definitely not mad

Jokic is close but hasnt been better than luka individually, we overweight how much his slighty better efficiency actually has an impact on the game. Jokic's better effeciency this season is great, yet the nuggets only get an extra 2.6 shots a game compared to the mavs.

Every advanced stat goes to Jokic except Usage rate. Which explains why his numbers are so inflated

Jokic imo is the MVP over luka both amazing players with amazing counting stats, and luka getting his seeding helps a lot too however I think the on off numbers really skew for jokic in my opinion Denver plumets in the offense when jokic is on the bench and thats where you see most of the losses happen this year unlike with the mavs where they do get worse without luka but not as much as you would think from a 35/10/10 guy going to the bench a lot of flow from the mavs offense gets cleared up when luka is gone (Luka is not a ball hog)

Please let there be more considered and intelligent discussions on MVP in national media being held by people like yourself KB. I want Luka to win MVP, but I absolutely concede that SGA is a more complete 2-way player than Luka. And that should absolutely hold weight in the MVP conversation, not to mention also taking OKC to No.1 seed at this point in time. Giannis could definitely be legitimate winner this year with his efficiency and numbers and good seeding with the Bucks. And Jokic is Jokic.
But Luka is putting up historic numbers along with historic performances, helped the Mavs to defy pre-season expectations, whilst dealing with an injured Kyrie (missed 35% of games) and other key role players, on a team that is the weakest against the other MVP candidates' teams (Nuggets, OKC, Bucks).
I’d love to see this game go international like soccer or the most loved sport in the world, have lakers play against Madrid from Spain or teams from around the world and actually make it a “world championship”
Jokic is once again the *most valuable* player when you look at his on/off numbers, but can we deny Luka’s 34 points 9 rebounds 10 assists.

Jokic mainly plays with starters so his plus/minus numbers are inherently going to be more inflated compared to Luka who plays with everyone in the rotation, especially when the Mavs were heavily injured

The part i hate most about this is everyone only looks at the counting stats.
Luka is at 34 9 and 10, with 1.4 steal and 0.5 blocks
Jokic is at 26 12 and 9 with 1.3 steal and 0.9 blocks
Looking at this, you'd think, "damn, Luka's stats are far superior" which they are... until you look at everything else.

but you can look even further for field goal percentage. 49% which includes 10 3s a game is pretty impressive. I don't think anyone has shot basically 50% with that many 3s taken except for curry.

The funny part is that Jokic did that 26 18 and 16 with an injured wrist. He says it bothers him but since he can play with it, he does. He has been playing with that injury since the Phoenix game.
Luka has been listed as questionable/gametime decision due to an ankle injury for the past few games too. Most players are banged up by now.

It's really about looking at the advanced statistics of these players and comparing them, right now Jokic is pretty much 1st in all of the important ones with Doncic at 2nd but also 4th in ones like PER and WS/48 however.
It's Luka for me. He has been the best player in the regular season by a significant margin. The guy is averaging 34, 9 & 10 on great efficiency and his team is winning games. If seeding didn't matter for Jokic in 2022 when he was the best player that regular season it shouldn't matter for Luka either. If it's about seeding and record give to Tatum then but that's not what it should be about

If advanced stats were even close to being as good as you present them to be, then why aren't GMs and coaches just moneyballing every single trade and draft pick? We know they aren't moneyballing it by the numerous baffling trades and draft picks that are made every year, if advanced stats were even somewhat remotely good then that wouldn't be the case.
Also Jokic doesn’t lead all advanced stats by a lot. Take EPM (the most widely touted modern advanced stat) for example; Luka and SGA are above Jokic.
One thing I will say about the Mavs is that they’ve been the most injured team of all the playoff teams except for maybe the knicks and are still the 5th seed. I think a lot of people over look that, and they would probably been a top 3 seed if it weren’t for injuries

@@fatman3177 its tough for me to ignore a top 50 all time player lol, but their team is better than that nuggets team regardless. majority of them are out of the league 2 years later, and even the starters other than gordon were no more than fine rotation players. with this being said, i'd be totally fine with luka winning this year despite being the 5th seed but its not at all comparable to when jokic did it

Luka is an average defender but one of, if not the best offensive player in the league. Not every MVP needs to be a two-way god.
Luka’s averaging 1.5 steals per game, he’s like 6th or 7th in the league. He’s not an elite defender by any means, but he deserves a little credit.
Jokic is an average defender, same with Luka, SGA Isn’t some elite defender, he’s good for sure but giannis is what you would call an elite defender
You are the first person ive heard mention giannis name in the mvp race. Dont know why but every year we just seem to default him to that 3-5 range and never actually give thought to him winning mvp even when he had an 18 game win streak last season.
