- A time lapse video of a few months of my life while I was drawing 'Mask'
I tried to give a glimpse into the process and the time that went into this work. Speaking a bit about a flow state that often accompanies long 300+ hour drawings like this.
It was hard for me to let go of this piece. I was so attached I didn't want to call it complete. When you spend so much time with a work thats so personal you cant help but get attached and the process of letting go is a challenge in itself. Im proud to be able to finally share this work with everyone. The making of this video was no exception to this curse taking a few months to just motivate myself to get through the editing. Im so excited to share this with you.

My biggest challenge is fighting the urge to finish artwork quickly which would result in a less impressive work. The patience and dedication that went into this one is worth every penny in the world.
I can relate to every single word you said here.
I’m trying to apply the same patience, as he mentions in this video it is about getting into the “headspace” and losing yourself. I have spent 20 - 30 hours on a drawing but this must take 100’s of hours
I think you should follow your instinct and your intuition. It's so beautiful to get this urge of finishing something, you will use your imagination to go where you want and the result will be so much more interesting. Let go

I just don’t get it: When you're working on such a large piece, in such detail, over such a long period of time, with changing light, and I imagine, changing mood’s too.
How do you achieve such a balance of; light, shade, and tone, over the whole piece? It really is quite remarkable.
You actually don't :) All paintings and drawings move from mood to mood with the artist across the canvass. In much the same way that a sky changes colour during the day, or how our expression changes from sleep to wakefulness. Our minds are wonderful in filling in the variations, the voids, and looks for conformity and the illusion of cohesiveness. But the reality is, the beauty is in the eccentric chaos that we only ever notice when we take pause, stop a minute, step up closer to the canvass and really look. Like how a tree is composed of leaves and branches, a drawing is composed of uncertainties, errors, doubt, exhilaration, peace, joy, pride, and you can see it sometimes. That's what makes them seem so lifelike, even when they don't claim to be realistic. Our subconscious looks for those essences of humanity, and that relationship with the chaotic everythingness, and then sighs in it's perfection.

I do possess the ability to draw but witnessing this level of skill in creating such a masterpiece,
Makes me feel like I'm just a small speck of dust amongst a pantheon of talented artists.
Im disappointed at myself for lacking the dedication and patience to able to make an art piece to signify my status in the art community.
But it always gives me hope that knowing everyone always started from small beginnings.
I'll make it up there someday!
had the same idea of being unable to be ever good at art. everyone starts somewhere, and maybe that somewhere starts low. that shouldnt discourage you. any comment scrollers, dont put yourself down for not being able to do amazing art. you have to learn to walk before you run. the night is darkest before the dawn, and i promise you, that dawn is coming.

I really understand when you speak about the place that you go, the headspace that is so absorbing, losing yourself in your work is a state of consciousness and connection to yourself. Love that place and the feeling of "being" - my best work comes when I'm there...such ease and peaceful...- glad you mentioned it here talking about your beautiful art, it resonates with me.
That state of mind is called 'flow'

As an artist myself (realism artist , hopefully hyper-realism one day) , this shows me what it REALLY takes to reach to this point in art , to me , it takes YEARS of patience , love , concentration and dedication to what drawing truly is and means to you. Im always happy when I have the opportunity to teach others that drawing isn’t only about ‘picking up a pencil and doodling on a piece of paper ’ those who don’t draw , don’t understand. It’s about measurements , values , sharp observation , the way you control and hold a pencil , matters. Drawing really teaches you a lot , not only how to draw. This is something that I will always be proud of , drawing has gotten me through life in my worst years. And it will continue to do so for as long as I breathe. This , TRULY inspires me to the fullest , and fills me with hope that one day , I’ll be just as great , proud that I never gave up and of how far I’ve come throughout the years.

I hope Jono Has a studio gallery with the rest of his workings on display? This young man has a gift from God, you can't teach what he does as anyone can clearly see.. truly Amazing.. we probably can't even afford his works. The only other artist I know who was this gifted was Leonardo da Vinci. and I personally think he's better than the master. this young man is in a class all by himself.. if there is a better artist, I have not seen it in my lifetime, and I'm 66yrs old. I myself have studied fine arts in schools, and have never seen anything on this scale, you must understand anatomy , muscle and bone structure under the skin. Jono understands it all very well..again, I am amazed

It's definitely from a photo. You couldn't do this without a reference.
@@kemarone8569 yeah I was wondering the same thing! If you are drawing so close to the paper, how can you maintain such perfect symmetry.! There has to be a reference where to start from and how to make all come together at the end!

This is art...something that ignites emotions and feelings in a person that don't came from anywhere else. Art: "the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power." I don't think I've ever been emotional while watching someone create art, not even with my own.
This guy made me believe that super humans Exists in real life.
I always feel like I NEED that flow...it can be such an escape from your everyday life and mental state. Drawing at depth like this almost seems like an outer body experience in a way...that your mind is so completely unaware of external stimuli or anything else in life, other than the concentration of drawing, its like meditation.
I've never seen anyone use that charcoal technique. I'm actually in awe of this guy right now! Congratulations man. Looks absolutely incredible 😱💜

I really like how you always start each video by putting water on the pad. When I used to draw, I thought water was actually gonna destroy the paper, but I guess it depends on the pad type. The pad actually hardens the paper, making the surface rough and better to blend shades, of course, after drying out. Keep it up brother 🙃

Помню 20 лет назад, сам не знаю почему, спонтанно взял обычные школьные краски, обычный набор кисточек, лист бумаги. И начал хаотично наносить на лист бумаги всякие кляксы, затем наносил очередно тона по всей площади листа много слоёв, что этот обычный лист бумаги стал упругий как картон. Далее бездумно, осветлял, затенял. Неожиданно увидел, что у меня получается на весь лист 1/4 морды кошки(или кота). Оттенков было настолько много, но в целом получилось так, что переплетение красок создало четкую картинку. И не заметил как пролетел целый день до поздней ночи.
Когда один мой знакомый увидел на столе этот рисунок, только он глядел на него вверх ногами типа. Так вот этот знакомый мне говорит,- как ты красиво нарисовал голову верблюда. Вот такой рисунок интересный у меня случайно получился. С одной стороны часть морды кошки. С другой стороны, если смотреть, то голова верблюда.
После этого я ни разу что-то подобное рисовать не пробовал.

i dont understand how you can just start drawing without making the composition first. is it a technique that i don't know about or are you just that good
I think it’s a technique. It’s not a all in one thing though, i start to do realism with a little bit of rough comp. and then move to doing it w/o :)
I would say there is a lot of preparation and planning that goes into the composition of a piece like this. What you are seeing here is the execution
he uses reference photos and combine them with his imagination to create his artwork. Reference is for textures, form, proportion and tonal values
I think he has a vivid imagination and image in his mind that can't be forgotten until it's finished or in front of him whole. His imagination seems incredibly active, abstract even and yet tamed enough to hold a homogenous, detailed concept in mind for as long as needed with the added dexterity and skill to commit such detail to the paper. He does appear to be, that good..

For those who are discouraged by seeing above art work.
Don't be too hard on yourself.Those who make good drawing/art didn't just catch the pencils, paper and draw these kinds of drawing from the start. Just remember they were also at the same level as we are right now,they also passed through these stages by hard work,practice,patience and dedication. So just work hard with patience and dedication and just enjoy the process of your art and don't get too worried about results. Practice everyday even if its for 30 mins cuz "Practice makes Progress".
I won't say it will be easy to reach on that level or you will reach at that level in short time but Also its not impossible to reach that level or even higher. It takes time so just be patient and enjoy the process and evolution of your art.

@@l.madrid8815 what you said was wrong. It's not water it's glue. People use as masking material. So you might make a circle with the glue, put water color over it, and then peel the glue up.

Rudra Gandhi he does it because the paper he uses only comes in rolls so he does a technique called “stretching”. The paper to make it lay flat. He made a video about it recently.

why do you put water on paper?
FIROZ GAMING i think he does this for a smooth background. After its wet he maybe uses compressed charcoal sticks so they dont leave marks.
He mentions in another one of his videos that he does this to flatten and stretch the paper to make it easier to work.

Ita crazy when you have finished a session of a few hours or so and then you look back at your work and what you've done in that time and its almost like it came from no where. I stare in wonder as your art forms in these vids...simply amazing! ...And yes watched this vid again 😂

Meanwhile.. I don't have the patience to tie my shoelaces... ( but for reals now lol.. I paint in acrylics for fast results. I have one and one only oil painting i've been working on for 3 months. I don't know how to oil paint and I decided to copy a masterpiece. what an idiot.) Art is demanding, fun, frustrating and odd at the best of times. I love your work Mr. Dry, truly.
