  • Tried eating a Jack Crevalle and it had worms in the meat. Tough mental block when there are worms in your fish meat.

    Can we take the eyes out😂😂 loved it!!! Reminded me of my daughter when she was that age. She always had to see what everything was eating. Didn't matter deer fish turkey we had to open them up.
    Just an FYI...she now works in the OR as a surgical technologist.

    When you mentioned the "mental game" thing, I was thinking it's more of a cultural thing, I'm originally from Brazil but have been living in the U.S. for 27 years and have assimilated into the American culture, but always notice some people saying that some fish are "trash fish" or "undesirable" when talking about some really sought after fish down in Brazil (i.e: Jacks, black drums, and etc..) but that's a cool video! I think I missed the last video you posted due to working my toosh off, so I'm going to go watch it now!

      It tasted fine, it really did, but the worms got me and the texture just wasn’t for me. I haven’t posted the video when the Jack was caught yet but it’ll be out early next week.

    Never tried it. If I have the chance I think I would. Have always heard to bleed it immediately, fillet and cut all dark meat, blood line away. And eat it pretty soon. Keep it up!

    • @G2COASTAL
      @G2COASTAL  Год назад +1

      Yes probably would have been better if we had bled it but we got caught up chasing fish. The texture and worms were the deal breaker for me. Thanks for watching!

    I ate some jacks on the Pacific side of Costa Mesa. They looked the same as the ones in the Gulf Of Mexico. And I wouldn't eat them again unless I was really hungry. The worms won't hurt you if you cook the fish. We eat worms in tuna, amberjack, black drum and especially red grouper. They can be transferred to us from raw fish.
    I don't know which was worse, Pacific bonita or Pacific jack crevalle. Both were very very fishy. I'm not tempted to try either from our waters. But I'm glad you did.

      Yeah I just pick them out of trout and slot size Reds but the worms in the Jack were just too big and broke me mentally hahaha. Thanks for watching!

    Many fish have worms in it, almost all spotted sea trout have worms. Still delicious.

      I can handle the small worms in trout but these “spaghetti” size worms were a mental block.

    It's interesting that Jack Crevalle is not a good eating fish where you're from. In Hawaii, jacks are called "ulua", and they're prized and highly sought after for both shore casters and free divers. I wonder what makes jacks not good eating in one part of the world but good eating in another part of the world?

    • @G2COASTAL
      @G2COASTAL  Год назад

      It is odd because we don’t like to eat the Jack Crevalle but we love to eat Pompano which is in the Jack family but also has a completely different meat texture. My biggest thing was just the mental block of all the worms in the meat, flavor was fine, but the worms got to my head hahaha.

      I like a fresh trout but gotta eat it the day of catching it. If Im not gonna eat a trout that day I won’t keep them because they get super soft fast.

    Tons of fish can get worms, kinda lame not to want to give jacks another chance.

    • @G2COASTAL
      @G2COASTAL  Год назад

      I also wasn’t a fan of the texture of the meat. Just not a fish I want to eat so I’ll keep sending them back for the next person to catch.
