I love these videos so much. The sweet spirit of a husband we all hope for our daughters is so clear in Miah. I know very few husbands who know the type of fabric their wife’s eczema flare ups require, had to stop himself from going on and on about all he knows about her dresses. It brings tears to my eyes to know someone so loved is has been blessed to be loved so well. I have it in my sweet Michael as well, but recording it and publicly professing that love with such humility is true gift. Sweet man. Sweet life. The world needs to see more of it. Thank you.

When I was a kid, it was normal to have a clothes line screwed into the side of the house near a window and strung to a tree in the back yard. Moms would stand at the window and hang the clothes from inside. But I did grow up in New England where it was a bit colder. And, yes, frozen clothes where a thing from time to time 😂 Your clothes line is a work of art in comparison to those of my childhood.

Haha! Oklahoma here. I remember asking grandma as she was hanging out the sheets, what do you do in winter? She said they freeze dry. I was soooo excited through spring, summer and fall, waiting for winter to come so I could see this freeze dry happen.
Come winter break, it was one of the warmest Christmass on record. I was so disappointed. But the next year, I got to see it in action. I sat there shivering, on the back porch watching the clothes freeze dry.

It kind of reminds you of Elizabeth Barrett Browning and her husband. She wrote the most beautiful poetry and one day I read her husband said, "I know God made angel's because he took the stars and put them into my wife's eyes." Who couldn't conquer the world if they had someone who believes in them that much? I had the privilege of meeting Jessica and Jeremiah and they are the real deal! She looks at him with the same wooing eyes as the summer garden is in full bloom in all its glory or how she loves the golden hour. They are SO blessed to do life together. It's what every mother prays for their children. They both are VERY blessed!

What an awesome surprise for Jess, she will greatly appreciate what you have done for her. I am not sure if you folks have it down in the US but here in Canada we are able to get coated wire that is meant for clothes lines. It is heavy duty plastic coated wire and you string it up just like you did with the rope. The plastic coating help prevent any rusting of the wire. My concern with the rope, is that it will stretch as it gets rained on ( when you get rain) and Jess hangs her dresses on the clothes line. You will end up adjusting the line quite often. The wire clothes line will not stretch as much as the rope will and will probably last a lot longer than the rope. Check out Lowes, to see if they have the coated wire made for clothes lines. You did an awesome job on the clothes line, it looks super.

    • @theIAMofME
      @theIAMofME Год назад +13

You talking about this reminded me of the clothesline we had growing up. Every backyard had a clothesline with the same kind of coated wire you speak of. I remember the big steel T posts. I hated it when a wasp would try to build a nest in the end of the hollow steel pole. It wasn't fun trying to hang out clothes if they were there.

I've started hagning my clothes out again after several years. I love it! I get more laundry done much faster and it smells great! Three loads can dry winkle free while I am at work. Of course, winter brings a limitation for us as we are in the mountains of northern PA, and eventually the short days and the snow load will make it impractical. Great saving for my electric bill, of course!

What a sweet project for Jess. consider a few hooks on the end cross bars to hang a hanger with a dress on it if need be. And she will for sure need some POLES to push the clothes-on-the-line UP to the wind!! One of those hooks could hold the bag that holds the clothes pins!! such good memories of hanging sheets outside. She's gonna love it and the love that went into it.!

My mom had a lot of skin flare ups and started wearing linen and it helped her so much. She passed away in 2018 from gallbladder cancer, she handmade most of the dresses even a very beautiful dress for her son's wedding. I didn't realize this video would be such a tear jerker for me. I love watching the care you put into making this for Jess. I do also have eczema most of my flare ups are on my hands and as a massage therapist and gardener it's very hard for me to continue to work. When we moved to SC back in 2017 a lot of the flare ups left. I am still very careful with things that can cause flare ups

One thing I learned a few years back was that if you have air born allergies you really do need to dry your clothes inside or in a dryer. Pollens etc will permeate your clothes and you will inhale them as you sleep in the sheets, use the towels or wear the clothes. Don't know if any of her symptoms are relateable , if not just something new to learn. Blessings to you all! There are only a few men like Miah, Jess you are truly a blessed woman!

This is why my family stopped using ours. :( First we tried the electric dryer for the last 10 minutes to try to knock the pollen off. Not good enough. Now I use indoor racks and a small travel line for easy things, and it's funny how clothes dry better inside, where it's less humid anyway. (Provided you are running a big enough AC to get a dehumidification effect, which is a whole other necessary aggravation.) I still read about how outdoor dried bedding and clothes smell good to people elsewhere, but we didn't experience that. They were always pollen smelling and often a bit musty, unless the sun was really beating down the entire time. Which also wore everything out. I still miss that peaceful activity though.

Hi Miah, It's a lovely clothesline. In the UK most of us dry all our laundry outside for a good proportion of the year. Some of us still use a straight clothesline much like the one you have built, however, we use much thinner line and most of us use a 'prop' halfway along the line. This is useful as you don't need the line as taught (and therefore don't need to reach up so high to peg the clothes). You then prop up the line halfway along with the prop (which is as simple as a 1x2 8ft pole with a 'v' notch cut in the top to accommodate the line), this has the added benefit of raising the laundry up so it never drags on the grass. Hope this is useful info. :)

Excellent idea Miah making the clothes line secure. We were 4 boys and 4 girls in my family. The clothes line was an awesome jungle gym. Plus a tent line for camping out or picnic time. Yes we did use it for its original purpose. Great memories. Thank goodness daddy was a carpenter and farmer. I think Jess will love you special gift.

If the line sags when you hang clothes you will need a couple of "poles" to be used to hold up the clothes line in between the main t-posts. :) something like a 2 * 10 piece of wood - you will cut a V shape on one end (to wedge the rope) and then a make the other side a point to go in the ground. These are moveable. If you don't want to do this - use some sort of heavy duty wire. Wire won't sag. We had about 8 or 10 of the "poles" that my mom used with the multiple long clothesline runs in the yard. :)

    Awesome. ❤
Tips: 1. groove a notch in a long pole to push the rope higher up when laden with laundry.
    2. Buy giant pegs to clasp the laundry onto thicker rope.
    3. Tie loop knots along the second rope to pop clothes hangers (with shirts on) through so they don’t slide in the wind.
    4. Put padding on the brace posts for when the boys use the loop-free rope as a zip-line. 😃

That's so very thoughtful!! A awesome clothesline build...back in the day when my daddy built ours, it was definitely build to last...a fyi, with that build when not in use and for a cool temporary fun thing ..we used ours to do tents ..old comforters or tarps...a cool sleepover space for us kids and friends😉😊

Miah....my 120 y/o family house has only had a solar-wind dryer (clothesline) all our lives. To assist with the weight of clothes drooping the line we've always just cut some 6' five quarter boards and cut a V-notch in the top to use as prop poles. Especially useful for hanging heavy jeans and bedding to keep everything off the ground while still being reachable to hang.
