I tried Lingopie for Japanese and it did not cut it. The amount of Japanese content is so small that I don't think they should even advertise having Japanese as a language. This was in ten months ago, so maybe this has changed, but I doubt it. As for "where else": it's pretty easy to get an add-on for dual subtitles in Netflix.
Thanks for sharing your honest experience :) Someone commented that there is a lot more content now, it looked a lot to me too, but I spent more time checking out the other languages to be fair :D
I had the same issue with Russian! I wanted to like it so much. But there’s just not enough interesting, modern and more main stream options unfortunately 🤷🏾♂️
Dual substitles -- thumbs up...now say more about this topic. Is this just a browser extension or a feature that can be enabled everywhere/everytime I watch? Does this exist for youtube (much more interesting content than netflix imo) autotranslate too? That feature would make lingopie irrelevant from what I can tell -- although one caveat being that I've noticed on netflix the subtitles almost never match the actual spoken words, at least on the ones they've dubbed and/or subtitled post-production (I think netflix chooses the most intelligible/accurate words for the subtitles and then chooses almost synonyms that match the lips for audio -- makes a language learning mess of things)
I tried Lingopie for about 2 weeks. I enjoyed it initially and had hopes for it, but then I realized that it contained all kinds of errors. This was for Japanese. There were lots of mistranslations and lots of incorrect segmenting of words - it would put two words together as if they were one or even 2.5 words, segmenting that made no sense at all linguistically. If I didn't know the language as well as I do I'd have been misled repeatedly by all the mistakes in the product. It's pretty evident they are using AI or something and not human work because they would have the correct translation for a word in one frame and then the wrong translation for the very same word in the next frame. Also the translations often didn't match what was happening on the screen. They asked me for input when I cancelled the trial and never responded to acknowledge or thank me. I would not give this company money until they get their act together.
Thanks a lot for sharing your experience, I would not have been able to spot that in Japanese. For the languages I speak and tested, I did not notice any mistakes. So they might have better languages than others :O
@@CouchPolyglot If, as I suspect, they are using some kind of automation to produce their translations it would make sense that they do a much better job between European languages.
I got it about 5 days ago, and I like it, but I don't love it. Currently, I am using it to improve my French. I am disappointed by two things. One, it does not have the Netflix shows. It has a Chrome extension which you can use with your Netflix subscription for certain shows. I do not have Netflix, so it removes a lot of the possible content I have available. Two, you cannot choose how you select the subtitles you use for flashcards. Sometimes you want the whole phrase, but it separates the words. And sometimes you want the words separated, but it captures a whole phrase. I do like the song feature because I was actually learning a couple of the songs on my own, and this feature makes it a lot easier. I also like the fact that I have access to Spanish, Italian, German and Russian, content, which I am learning as well (I'm at various levels of those languages). The one thing I would add is to have short stories read with text at the upper beginner level, or lower intermediate level (which would be tremendously useful at my level in Russian).
@@CouchPolyglot I just opened up Spanish, and they have short stories. And French has podcasts, not necessarily short stories. I guess there is a lot more to discover about this service.
I didnt like that the website didnt present me what it was offering before the trial. All i could do is sign in and prepay a subscription withouteven knowing what i am subscribing for. Thats a big fail.
I’m using it for Spanish and I love it actually. I feel like I’m making real gains. But that’s for Spanish. There’s not a lot of content for Mexican Spanish but what it does have is pretty good.
Yo no soy fan de Lingopie porque creo que usan su propio contenido y no contenido de canales actuales. Por cierto estoy disfrutando tus cursos de catalan. Gracias por compartir tu conocimiento de esta lengua.
I'm trying to teach myself Swedish and was disappointed LingoPie didn't have that as an option. I'm currently testing out Language Reactor to see how it does as a standalone, since that's what I think Lingopie uses as its base for the technology.
Hello, thanks for your content! Is Lingopie good for German? How is the content? I am interested in trying it, but would love some feedback first, does it have enough material?
The main question is, if one can learn one or up to 8 languages at hr same time, using only lingopie or does one need also some other tools ? It looks like, that with the support of AI an individual training plan is calculated. which is updated. But some comments are very negative. So what is better ?
I have a 3 month subscription. Going to cancel. Waste of money. The shows I can watch are horrible. Cartoons and the women's channel type movies. Was looking for cops cowboys exciting movies. The mystery of Laura and letters to my Ex. Whoops. Waste of money. Also, cartoon. Kitty is not a cat. Horrible options
Thanks for your feedback, I am always open to critique in order to improve and reflect. Can you please help me out? Why exactly do you think it is clickbait? I literally tried out the app for 7 days straight and found things I had not found before when trying it out for only an hour or two. So I am not lying in the title, it is literally what happened. Thanks for sharing your thoughts 🙏

There is a ton more Japanese content now... It's amazing.
Thanks for sharing your honest experience :)

I'm glad if they added more, maybe I should try again sometime.

It is wonderful to have this information. I was just considering giving it a try. Merci beaucoup. 😊

I never heard of lingo pie. I’ll look it up
Hope you like it, you can try it out 7 days for free :)

Hi there, I have not tried it out that much for German, I would simply recommend to try out the free version and see for yourself if it suits you :)

We are all different, so I would say you can try it out for free during the 7 day trial and see how you feel about it 😄
I don't have a Netflix account so it's not worth it for me, I'd guess.
It really depends on the language you learn. You can try it out for free for 7 days if you are not sure :)
