There are only a few commonalities between the novel and Branagh's movie 'adaptation': there is a murder, and Hercule Poirot and Ariadne Oliver are among the characters.
I was soooo disappointed with the Branagh movie NOT WITH THE BOOK! 'Coz the book is a Christie classic and love the twist on the book! I have a complete set of AC books - I'm a super Christie fan. Watched as well the complete Poirot episodes played by David Suchet (the Christie family favorite Poirot btw). AC does not do supernatural etc etc etc. I find the movie so corny tbh. That's my take and my POV.
The book has an entirely different plot than this movie. Wish he had just stuck to the source material. I really like that book, I’ve read it a few times. But I’m sure the movie is good as well. I just love Poirot
I kinda wish they would just create a new detective all together instead of borrowing Poirot and Mrs Oliver character, used tiny portions of story (if the trailers is any indication) and then go their own creative way.
Especially if it is going to be so drastically different from the books they probably should use different people. It could be more like the Glass Onion and Knives Out movies, those are great as well!
After reading the book and watching the trailer I wouldn't say Halloween party is a movie just because they appear to be completely different ☹️ but yes the book definitely isn't scary😂
The book has a dark feeling because there are children being murdered. That darker quality has been translated in the movie into a horror dimension that was not there. I love the last part of the book because of the motivation of the killer: beauty. And the way it references Iphigenia and The Tempest is very interesting for me.
Based on the names of the caracters of the movie,(which are from the book), I know who the victim is and I know who the killer is. The motive could still be the same in the movie . All that supernatural stuff is just a smoke mirror
I'm glad you liked it! And I really enjoyed the Death on the Nile Movie and I enjoyed the book just as much. I probably enjoyed the book a little more but they follow each other pretty well other than the movie does change a few scenes
I love Agatha Christie. My summers growing up were chock full of her books and Sherlock Holmes. I had a similar experience with the Pirates of the Caribbean movie, On Stranger Tides. The trailer said it was based off of the Tim Powers book of the same title. My dad and I are big Tim Powers fans so we were excited about them adapting it to a movie... But it's almost nothing like the book. Haha
I have been enjoying her books so much! I just wasn't too excited about this one but I think the movie trailer messed with my opinion😣 and it can be so disappointing when the book and movies don't go together, I'd rather the producers just say it's something new 😂
I just read hallowe'en party, and not gonna lie I had more fun reading this than watching death on the nile (2022). It was easy to figure out who did it and why right before Poirot enters the story. Between this and the other two Agatha Christie Books that i've read (Death on The Nile & And Then There Were None) this would be at number 2. With Death on The Nile being at 3 and Then There Were None at 1. I do plan at somepoint reading murder on the orient express.
Just saw the movie today, and the trailer doesn't give you anything of the movie. I did not read the book, so it was good that you did a summary. And the parts with the party and the murders were accurate to some extend.
Just finished the book because I’ll go see the movie in a week. I’m totally on your side! Already read 3 books of her and this one is the one with the lowest rating to be honest. Felt really understood watching that video!😊
haha thank you! I am glad I wasn't alone in this feeling, I've really enjoyed her other books but this one not so much.. I am excited to watch the movie, I just haven't got around to it yet
@@nicolesbookcorner update! Just watched the movie. The movie was really good, but sadly nothing like the book(accept for the characters names). The movie is definitely worth a watch even as a non Agatha Christie fan. The book an movie is like comparing a carrot with an apple😂 After all, go watch the movie but don’t read the book.
I agree that the trailer seems nothing like the book. Personally, I liked the book, but I respect your opinion and agree that there are a lot of better Agatha Christie's. I may end up liking the movie better than the book for this one but only time will tell. What do you think of the The Mysterious Affair At Styles?
I'm glad you enjoyed the book! I think I would've liked it more if I wasn't expecting it to be more like the trailer of the movie but it was still was interesting. I'm excited to try the movie though! And I haven't read that one yet. Is it good? If so, I'll check it out!
@@nicolesbookcorner I understand. And I agree. Personally I loved The Mysterious Affair At Styles. I definitely recommend it if you like Agatha Christie:) Just reviewed it on my channel.
I'm glad Branagh is doing Poirot in something original instead of him remaking yet another classic movie like Nile and Orient Express. I've yet to read Halloween Party which is a good thing as the preview looks good.
I had the feeling that Joyce Reynolds wasn't an Asian American medium in the original. Though they captured the "Orientallism" well as commonly portrayed in the period.
I agree with you that A Haunting in Venice is dissimilar to its source material, but I love The Halloween Party. That is one of my favorite Poirot stories and I was disappointed with the movie. I think I would have enjoyed the movie more if I didn't know that it was based on The Halloween Party. I'm slightly disappointed in Kenneth Branagh now.
Thank you for your comparative analysis of the two stories. I enjoyed Christie's novel, Hallowe'en Party, though it is not her best work. About your T-shirt - did you attend law school there at the University of Akron School of Law? (I graduated from the school myself, some years ago.)
Thank you for the comment! I definitely do enjoy Agatha Christie's books but this one was not a favorite. And I did! I just graduated last year, that's awesome you did as well! :) I enjoyed my time there!
Thanks for letting me know your honest thoughts here. I love Agatha Christie’s books. I will pass on this one as well as the movie it’s based on. ❤thank you for your valuable review
The book is not based on the movie. I know she slipped up at least once and said the book just wanted to take advantage of the actor's names, but the book came out decades ago, I think she meant the movie wanted to take advantage of the book's characters.
Yes, this is clearly one of Christie's worst books. She tries to work in comments about hippies and drugs etc. from 1969 (when the book supposedly takes place) but has a kid's party full of a bunch of old timey games from the 1930s, including a strange game involving setting raisins on fire. Nicole, you are so right about this one! Keep up the good work with your videos!
You have no idea what you are talking about. Maybe research the games that were played at the time or stay away from fiction written before you were born.
Stuff in the book was not "random." It was obviously above your head. Especially given your limited vocabulary and your inability to pronounce common words. Stick with kid fiction. Horror is the real world. Turning the book into a horror movie is a te4rrible idea, I adore the book and the British TV version, which you should check out, If you haven't seen the movie I don't get how you can compare them anyway, .@@nicolesbookcorner
Yeah, that was loosely based on the book. Just like Frozen was loosely based on The Snow Queen. Only difference being, having watched both at this point, A Haunting in Venice is GOOD.
I read the book and about an hour later watched the movie. It was a very confusing experience. The book I read was called haunting in Venice, not holloween Party. I could not understand the connection with Venice at first. All the choices in the movie seemed to go against the book and characters. It seems to me that they had a screenplay and needed a big name to promote it. Sincerely, it seems a little disrespectful. I don't want to criticize the movie, though, but i would accept better an original story based on the characters, instead a total deconstruction of a book to promote a film. An odd choice.
I just finished the book and while I found the premise to be fantastic, it sort of fizzled between all the unnecessary conversations and the twist at the very end that I found to be unearned. Still enjoyable but there are definitely better Christie books.
You should have checked out the movie first before the video, there are some things purposely done to connect the two, I did enjoy the book but indeed, it's nowhere near adhered to like the previous two movies were to the books they were based upon.

Have been looking for a video like this all throughout the internet! My same thoughts exactly. Still looking forward for the new movie though! Please share your thoughts on the movie once it comes out!
An unpopular opinion: I disliked Piorit in Christie's books. I always preferred Miss Marple. I disliked him in the films as well. However, I like the Kenneth Branagh's version of Poirot. He became an interesting character (for me) thanks to Kenneth. So I don't really care if the new film is based on the books or not and what changes were made. I just want it to be an interesting, well-written detective story with a touch of horror. I liked Murder on the Orient Express and Death on the Nile. But, of course, for a fan, this must be irritating.
I have definitely enjoyed Branagh playing Poirot, he does a great job! And I didn't start reading Agatha Christie books until after I watched Death on the Nile so now when I read her books I picture the Branagh's version of Poirot which makes it sometimes frustrating when the book version doesn't necessary act as the actor version would. I do agree, I think the actor version of Poirot is better at times, especially when comparing to the Poirot in certain books (like Hallowe'en Party). I haven't read a Miss Marple book yet, but I am glad to know you enjoyed them! I am going to have to try one out! I am excited for the movie though, I hope it is as fun as it looks!

It has a theme "Shadows of Past SINS" or something , seen in some others too!
