Go, Owasso! From a former Okie (KTUL and KOTV - long before you were born) who worked years ago with a Nazarene Church in VA - with another OETA friend. Our productions were much simpler. Services and concerts were archived to Betacam or to DVD. This was before webstreaming. We had 2 older broadcast Sony/Thomson ENG cameras... I am impressed with your camera choices. Good planning!
Thanks for sharing the setup. RUclips is so full of high end setups that are just so out of reach for people on a reasonable budget. Most folks just want a descent setup that switches and records in 1080 as they are not trying to broadcast the Super Bowl. Thanks for you time!
Thank you so much! you have been such a blessing to our church. With just simple solutions were looking for you covered in the video! God bless you and the church for being so generous with your knowledge!
Your video and support have been a godsend for me:)!! I might end up doing the live chat support once i start getting everything in from B&H as I took what you have and set it to an 8 video system.
Hello friend, one question, do you recommend the Sony a6000 for long streams, I have a little doubt and fear since I do live streams on twitch and they are long maybe 4 or maybe 6 hours and obviously the camera will be connected to a fake battery connected to the electricity all the time, that's why the reason for my fear when streaming I don't know if the camera overheats they told me that the Lumix G7 doesn't overheat in video and I don't know which one to choose I would appreciate it if you gave me your opinion, I hope see your answers, thanks.
Any way you could send me a still frame (or a minute marker on one your YT live streams) of what your camera 1 (GH4 35-100) looks like? And how far is it positioned from your stage? We’ve had a GH4 for a while but have a prime lens since we only used it for interview style shots and now are looking for a similar set up to the one you have. Would really appreciate it. Glad to see it’s working for your church!!
I've gone HDMI out from my Nikon D810 and the thing I dislike the most is the auto-off after 20 minutes, I think it is. Do the Panasonics you mention have an auto-off timer and what is the max time? Or do they stay on (output HDMI) indefinitely?
I highly advise recording in 23.976 fps (24). This will allow a much more natural motion blur. Of course, following the 180-degree shutter angle rule. In this case, 1/50. Contrary to what was stated in the video, this is very easily managed in post-production. Simply make your timeline and monitoring to be 24 fps.
24p is a great framerate, and we use it all the time. Especially when mixing with 60p slowmotion at 40%. But use whatever frame rate you prefer, and honestly don't be too hung up on the 180 degree rule. "cinematic" motion blur in a church service is not really that different than 29.97. We shot at 60p with a shutter speed of 60 forever, no big deal. Now we do 29.97 at 60 shutter and it's really not much different. Try out different frame rates and see what you like best.
@@CBCowasso Speaking in regards to an industry standard, and a very keen eye on noticing the visual flow; 60fps is very apparent and gives more of an amateur/soap opera appearance. 30fps is permissable but still not as good as 24fps. There's a reason the majority of movies and shows use 23.976. We've mixed these rules with various cameras over the past, and people that don't know film are actually reaching out and saying they like the look of a particular camera better, and it's the one that I'm properly setting with 24, 1/50. There's a reason film experts have stood behind this for many years :)
Great video brother thank you so much really really helped Especially with being able to use the cameras in other places other than the church we didn't think of that God bless brother
This is what I'm looking for our new small church in the valley, Texas. Im in charge for multi media and art of our church. Pastor Rylan, I hope you can help me decide which camera to buy and used for live streaming. I hope to here from you soon. you response is highly appreciated pastor...God Bless
Thanks for watching. As far as what camera to get that depends on a few variables. Budget, use case, low light, multi-use, manned/unmanned etc etc. Hopefully my video helped some.

arie awp if you aren’t recording on to the cameras local Sd cards the cams that we use do not even get warm. Have accidentally left them on for a week on many occasions and no issues. They are powered with dummy batteries.
All this terminology is new to me. I have filled out a grant per your advice. The one question I didn’t ask is, how is the audio/video getting to the mixer in the control room. Are you using vMIX, OBS or Ecamm Live? I am just up the road in Bartlesville. Could I get a tour of your set up?
John Hambrick hello to a fellow Green Country friend. We have a video breaking down our audio setup. ruclips.net/video/XNAzI5RtPc8/видео.html. We currently use MimoLive from Boinx and have been very happy. Justbroadcaster was great for years though as well. Once our building is open again after the pandemic I’d be happy to give you a tour.
Looking to get a G7 possibly for streaming, does it have clean audio output through the HDMI cable? Or do you need additional equipment to capture audio output? Sorry if you mentioned it in the video, still watching it lol
REALLY appreciate this video. Question: I have a Panasonic G85 which is similar to the G7. I have it hooked up to a wireless HDMI transmitter, so the feed is sent to a camera switcher in our tech booth. Is it best for me to be NOT recording from the camera itself? Basically, I have the camera on and in Movie mode... I just never hit the record button. We have equipment recording everything in the booth. Will I run the risk of the camera just shutting off since nothing is recording from the camera itself?
Daniel Mottayaw that should work great. We don’t record on any of the cameras. Only thing you might lose is autofocus if not recording. I’m not sure if afc works unless you are recording.
You can use the HDMI output to connect to a Blackmagic ATEM Mini (or other capture cards) and plug it directly into your computer. The ATEM Mini allows the camera to be recognized as a webcam by the computer, which you can then use as the camera for your stream
Very helpful video. Just put a very similar setup together at our church thanks to your video. I went with the Holy land Mars 300 for wireless. Working very well so far. After the first couple of videos I realized the hyper decks output was too large. All the 256 gb SD was getting used after an hour into the service because the default codec is prores HQ. What codec are you using?. Just switched to H.264 and was wondering if that output will still be good.
Great video thanks! Question- were you able to run video on the GH5 and G7 cameras longer than 29 minutes? If so could you share how you did that- thanks!
CBC Owasso ah- Not about camera recording but hdmi video output- I understood the GH4 could output hdmi video longer than 29 minutes (designed for continuous hdmi video output times) but could not find that capability confirmed on the GH5 or G7. Your experience is the GH5 and G7 can output hdmi video for any length of time without overheating?
Are you able to add ProPresenter as one of the inputs on the switcher? We want to play our pre-recorded worship through propresenter and then switch to our Pastor preaching live.
Can you explain what app and connection you used the iPhone clock for? Is that an input into the switcher? Could you use that for a very secondary camera?
Hey Mike, I help out with the livestream. We actually just use the iPhone as a way to remind our directors to start the recording. There is an alarm that goes off 1 minute before the service starts.
I have a huge question. Can I use multiple Nyrius Aries Pro - Wireless HDMI Transmitter in the same building? Right now 3, but maybe in the future we might add more.
This is really helpful, thank you, Pastor Russell. When you're outputtin HDMI from the GH4 (or GH5) does te on-board view screen still display? On Canon DSLRs, when you output HDMI, the viewscreen is disabled and the operator has no way to see what they're shooting.
@@CBCowasso Oh, sorry, I don't think I asked my question clearly. What I'm wondering is if you plug into the HDMI out port on the camera and you're feeding the video to another source, does the digital screen on the camera still show you an image? On the cannons its either the screen OR the output, but not both at the same time.
Do you mind if I ask one more question? :-) How do you get the USB feed from the Marshall on stage all the way back to the deck? USB can't run that far can it?
Would the Hyperdeck work with the ATEM Mini and looking at the mixer software in the video, does that software come with the ATEM switch you are using. Would the same mixing software come with the ATEM mini?
Hi. I congratulate you on your great ingenuity, the guidelines in this video have helped me a lot. How do you go about streaming from the Hyperdeck Studio MIni? because I have read all the blackmagic counts about the hyperdeck and I don't see that it says that it is used to capture and go to the transmission software ...
The Blackmagic Hyperdeck Mini has an SDI in and an SDI out, which you can connect to a thunderbolt capture card (such as the Blackmagic Ultrastudio Mini), and you can run that into your streaming computer in order to livestream
Looking to get camera that we can use to record our service. I am looking at buying a Cannon photo camera because Cannon has released software that allows connecting some of their cameras directly to the USB port on the PC - no HDMI to USB converter needed! That would save $150 for the converter that we could put towards the better camera. The question: What lens do I need to be able to take decent close-up shots from a distance of 50' ? (That is the distance between the video booth and pulpit)
Jayden Washington the ATEM is connected to the Mac mini via usb. Then the number pad is simply a Bluetooth device with a little blue tooth usb connector like a mouse.
Thanks for sharing this very useful video. I see that you have a 35-100 f2.8 on your GH4. Wondering how you manual focus it on moving subjects. I have the same lens on my GH5 and I'm going nuts with the fly by wire focus ring.
@@CBCowasso Thanks bro. Yes, we do that also, but only when the artist is still. When he walks forward, keeping him in focus as distance continuously changes is very difficult with that focus ring.
How is the wireless hdmi working for you now after some use? Would you still recommend it? I just order the pro plus in Hope's that it will free our camera up.
GREAT INFO. I learned a lot in a very quick short video. Very informative. Quick question what brand of cable are you using from your mini hdmi to hdmi to maintain HD quality. My concern is I will lose quality running a long cable say 100ft to our AV room. THANKS!!!
Christian Home MBC you cant run hdmi more than 50ft and that is risky. Convert to Belden 1694a SDI cable. Then back to hdmi again. Blackmagic hdmi to SDI converters are fine.
Thanks for your video! Our balcony is 60 ft back; we have the GH4 and the Panasonic 35-100 2.8 -- is that appropriate for that application. We are beginning with only one camera. Is there a lense better suited to that application?
@@rylandrussell4068 Hey Ryland, We are having difficulty getting our GH4 mic turned off. We are going through a Black Magic Design Web Presenter. Thanks!
Have you used multiple Nyrius transmitters/receivers to send several camera feeds??? If yes, have you had any problems with wirelessly transmitting multiple cameras at the same time? Thanks for sharing.
42 Pros we have actually been using two roaming camera setups with the nyrius the last 3 weeks. No real issues. Don’t expect them to be perfect. If you get 100 feet away in a packed room you may get dropouts. They say as long as the receivers are 10ft apart you are good. We basically have one roamer on one side of the room and one covering the other side. Good luck!
Hi! We purchased the same ATEM last year to expand but we only have one camera for now. I lead worship here full time but am clueless when it comes to camera equipment. What is the best second angle shot in your opinion? Is there a camera you would recommend? Would your recomendation change based on the camera being manned/unmanned? Ive wanted to add a second camera even if it was unmanned for now until we built the team up. Our livestream seems really boring with just the one. Hard to get a feel for whats happening in the room. Thanks
Thanks! Ya the streamdecks are pretty cool. For us we pretty much only use cuts/dissolves so the cheap number key pad is all we need. Maybe if we start doing lower third or specific macros...
The Nyrius Aries Pro seems to have a delay (according to youtube reviewer you mentioned) about 200ms or more Do you have problems with lip sync issues between your FOH audio and video feed from Nyrius Aries Pro?
And another question if I may - I'm using GH3 and GH4 w/ ATEM - what are your settings for GH3/GH4? I find that focusing on the GH3/4 isn't as good as I want it to be - even after setting focus up, both cameras still hunt with very tiny movements - it is only noticeable if you pay very close attention - using 25mm and 50mm prime lenses - thanks again
Hey mark. I wouldn’t use the wireless in and Imag environment but it re-sinks within the atem fine and you just delay the audio to match. I don’t have any experience with the GH3 line but I can tell you we do not use auto focus on any of the cameras if that is what you’re asking.
@@CBCowasso ok I see - manual focus is doable on most cameras - but we have one camera mounted that we have to use the Lumix app to focus - thanks again - great info
How do you combat sync issues on the latency for the Nyrius Aries Pro wireless connection? Is that adjustable in the black magic? Also, How do you mix audio for your live stream?
Hey Jacob, our worship pastor has a channel here on youtube where he breaks down stuff like that. Here is a video where he talks about it. ruclips.net/video/6AYYB3TaI_U/видео.html
You don’t have to do anything you could test it out with the numbers on your normal keyboard it works. I just like having the keypad wirelessly so I can switch inputs from anywhere in the booth
I went back and looked at the manual and found it, yes I think that is a great feature and we are similar to you guys. We try and build the most professional broadcast with the smallest dollars. Thanks again for the video very helpful.
This video has been a great help for us. Thank-you. I'm thinking of adding a GH4 to the mix of GH5's (I can't afford another GH5 right now) ... have you seen much of a difference in the two?
Hey, man. Hope you're doing well. We're looking into running something like this. How have your GH4's and GH5's held up with the long-term streaming/recording? I know DSLR's aren't really meant for long shots. Just curious if this is a good, long-term option. Thanks!
It can depend on your DSLR. I had a Canon Rebel that overheated filming an hour-long event. The Canon I replaced that one with has been able to go longer, and be left on!!
Hey Ryland, would you still recommend the GH4? We are starting our set up and I'm stuck between the GH4 or 5. We have about a $3500 budget for everything. We are planning on getting an atem mini pro aswell.
MrFolder40 yep, we love our Gh4 cams. I’d get a cage for them with a hdmi clip to hold it in place. Spend the money on good lenses. And the mini pro will be awesome, just not in stock anywhere yet.

Hi I would like to know how to connect my Panasonic G7 to the Atem HD, because for me, I don't have any picture displayed despite having tried all the settings. Is there any particular method???? Thank you.
Thanks soo much for this! How did you do the cabling? I have an old system and I'm trying to work with the SDI cable as well as coaxial cable and I'm not sure how to connect what coming from my ATEM to my on stage monitors, my stage screen & my televisions throughout the sanctuary
And also I'm trying to figure out how to connect a source to play pre-recorded video. Right now we use DVDs but we are fine with switching to media files but I'm not sure about how to configure some source for that specifically
@@tranisefoster590 Cabling: Use Belden 1694a SDI and then SDI to HDMI Converters where needed. Some people use Hyperdecks for media playback but I prefer to use ProPresenter for all of our media playback. If you have cameras 50ft or closer to the ATEM then those can get away with HDMI
CBC Owasso Do you know which one you use?? I never even heard of that. Will have to look into it bc we wanna send our ProPresenter announcements videos to our stream.
Do you think a Canon 600D will be a good choice to start off with for other uses such as interviews, services ? If yes what reasonable lenses would you suggest for very long wide range shots and short shots. Thanks God bless
IamGlody _ thanks for the comment. I believe there are other low budget options out there that would be better than the t3i. You are limited on your frame rates and it is only 1080p. I’d recommend a 70d if you want low budget canon. The Panasonic g7 will give you a great 4K image for very cheap. There are a variety of cheap lenses available as well.
Wow this is exactly what we are looking for as we just moved into a new building and is upgrading to multi-cam recording... A bit of question regarding recording length. The GH4 has no 30 minute limit for recording, does the GH5 has that limit? I read that some cameras has that to prevent the device from becoming too hot.
madelves GH5 has no limit. G9 does tho But you’re also not recording through the cameras, just sending the video image to the actual recorder in sound booth
Thank you for this video! It was super helpful! I have one question, how are you able to get your DSLR batteries to run the whole time without dying? Are you running anything special or just changing batteries between services?
Hey thanks for watching and I'm glad it's helpful! All stationary cameras are running on "dummy" batteries and plugged in. Our roaming cameras will last almost two hours or so on one battery. Gh5/Gh4
Thank you Ryland for sharing. We're a new ministry and wanted to know if our budget is limited and we start with the G7 Panasonic camera, a tripod and a laptop would that be sufficient for the beginning process? All under $1,000? We do plan to stream.

Hey Joshue, I'd recommend either the teradek ace 500 or the spark 4k ruclips.net/video/KY0OqGDywrM/видео.html (links in that video description)
Can I use multiple Nyrius Aries Pro - Wireless HDMI Transmitter
in the same building? Right now 3, but maybe in the future we might add more.
Thank you for the advice. Really I want to take care and save the church money
Yes, we need to be good stewards. :)
Sorry if you answered this- how are you controlling exposure on the G7 wide shot?
Watching this 11/23/20. Has the outlook regarding FB Changed? Is all a lot of Churches have right now.
Thank you for a great overview. God Bless!
This is really helpful, thank you, Pastor Russell. When you're outputtin HDMI from the GH4 (or GH5) does te on-board view screen still display? On Canon DSLRs, when you output HDMI, the viewscreen is disabled and the operator has no way to see what they're shooting.
clean hdmi, you have the option to show or not show the screen info.
LWhaples oh I see. Yes the screen still shows the image while outpouring over hdmi.
@@rylandrussell4068 Again, thanks for all the great help! :-)
Same software for both ATEMs. The hyperdeck can record an HDMI input or an SDI input I believe. So yes, it can work with an ATEM Mini.
What are you using in newer service's for the track shot over the crowd? Looks amazing!
Ben Elmore that shot is our cable cam. It’s a wiral lite with a gh4 on a gimbal using wireless hdmi transmitter.
@@CBCowasso we're looking into using wireless HDMI, is there any noticeable latency? We also IMAG in the auditorium
@@RealBenElmore couple frames, but the atem usually resyncs all of the video feeds fine. We don't do IMAG though. I don't think I'd use it for that.
CBC Owasso do you have a video about this setup?
quick question - how are you getting your audio mixdown ?
dave zorn we’ve got a video. Just search our channel for broadcast mix.
How did you connect the number pad? My church has the same switcher. I might want to do that.
Jayden Washington the ATEM is connected to the Mac mini via usb. Then the number pad is simply a Bluetooth device with a little blue tooth usb connector like a mouse.
CBC Owasso So the keys are preassigned through the stem software?
Thanks for sharing this very useful video. I see that you have a 35-100 f2.8 on your GH4. Wondering how you manual focus it on moving subjects. I have the same lens on my GH5 and I'm going nuts with the fly by wire focus ring.
Most of the operators use the touch screen to grab focus with that lens. Or they do the double tap punch in and manually fine tune it.
@@CBCowasso Thanks bro. Yes, we do that also, but only when the artist is still. When he walks forward, keeping him in focus as distance continuously changes is very difficult with that focus ring.
Hey there... Great video... What are you using for transmitting video wirelessly on the roaming camera? and is it efficient?
He ever answer this question?
Looks like he has a reference in the description, the Nyrius Aries Pro - Wireless HDMI Transmitter
I have questions about your key pad and how it links to the switcher? How is your setup for it? Considering doing bit your way.
@@CBCowasso THANKS
Thanks for your video! Our balcony is 60 ft back; we have the GH4 and the Panasonic 35-100 2.8 -- is that appropriate for that application. We are beginning with only one camera. Is there a lense better suited to that application?
M K that will be great. If you need it to punch in even more use the “tele” punch in option. You probably won’t need it.
@@rylandrussell4068 Thank you, that's most helpful!
@@rylandrussell4068 Hey Ryland, We are having difficulty getting our GH4 mic turned off. We are going through a Black Magic Design Web Presenter. Thanks!
OUAH you just respond to my prayer . Thank you , I am doing your setup
Hello I would like to know, what it the name which is you are using small keyboard for switching. are there any link to buy it. thank you
Have you used multiple Nyrius transmitters/receivers to send several camera feeds???
Thanks
Brittany Masters everyone starts somewhere! If I only had two cameras I would have a safe wife shot and another manned shot.
Hi, great video. :) Try a streamdeck to control your ATEM , with Companion software.
Thanks! Ya the streamdecks are pretty cool. For us we pretty much only use cuts/dissolves so the cheap number key pad is all we need. Maybe if we start doing lower third or specific macros...
CBC Owasso Thanks for this. Can I ask what keypad you use?
The Nyrius Aries Pro seems to have a delay (according to youtube reviewer you mentioned) about 200ms or more
Do you have problems with lip sync issues between your FOH audio and video feed from Nyrius Aries Pro?
Jason Harris it’s negligible. I believe the atem does a resync somehow of the cameras and then we delay our audio that many milliseconds to match up.
Great info. I just counted 7 cameras!
I may have missed it, but how do you wirelessly connect the roaming camera to the blackmagic system? Do you end up with any noticeable lag? Thanks!
Hey Jacob, our worship pastor has a channel here on youtube where he breaks down stuff like that. Here is a video where he talks about it. ruclips.net/video/6AYYB3TaI_U/видео.html
Thanks for the awesome video brother.
Are you having any audio sync issues with the wireless shooter ?
Great video! On the numeric keypad, did you just setup macros in the atem software?
You don’t have to do anything you could test it out with the numbers on your normal keyboard it works. I just like having the keypad wirelessly so I can switch inputs from anywhere in the booth
I went back and looked at the manual and found it, yes I think that is a great feature and we are similar to you guys. We try and build the most professional broadcast with the smallest dollars. Thanks again for the video very helpful.
Thx for this video, please how did you assign the number pad to control the atem or is it just a default...
I'd love to know what autofocus settings you're using. Having lots of difficulty getting that right on my GH5...
Laura Pinto we rarely if ever use autofocus. There are many videos on RUclips about recommended settings with the new firmware though.
@@CBCowasso Ok that answers my question! I'll stick with manual focus. Thanks so much.
This video has been a great help for us. Thank-you. I'm thinking of adding a GH4 to the mix of GH5's (I can't afford another GH5 right now) ... have you seen much of a difference in the two?
If you are just doing 1080 then it's hardly noticeable. GH5 has a little better ISO performance.
Can show us how you do your audio?
Yep :) ruclips.net/video/XNAzI5RtPc8/видео.html
Such a great video. What are you using for Camera 3? I didn't see the specs listed.
The wide shot? We typically use a G7 with the 12-35 2.8 from panasonic
@@CBCowasso Any other lenses you would recommend for the wide shot?
Winds Team Videos you could do a prime lens like a rokinon 12mm for micro four thirds mount. Little cheaper still is the samyang.
@@CBCowasso What camera/lense are you using for the drum shot? Is that setup or handheld?
Hey, man. Hope you're doing well. We're looking into running something like this. How have your GH4's and GH5's held up with the long-term streaming/recording? I know DSLR's aren't really meant for long shots. Just curious if this is a good, long-term option. Thanks!
Used them for years, never an issue. Have even accidentally left them on for days at a time.
@@rylandrussell4068 Oh, wow. That's awesome. So, you have no issue with them cutting off mid-service?
No
It can depend on your DSLR.
Thanks alot!
Tks may God bless and use more and more!!!
You posted this video a while back so have you since upgraded the video wireless transmitters?

Hi
I would like to know how to connect my Panasonic G7 to the Atem HD, because for me, I don't have any picture displayed despite having tried all the settings. Is there any particular method????
Thank you.
It all depends what framerate you have your ATEM set to.
@@CBCowasso ok ok thank you . I'm going to try this.
how do you turn off your mirrorless cameras that are mounted on the wall? Do they stay on and plug in during the week?
All of our cameras are within reach and are powered off during the week.
Currently trying to get signal from my Canon XA10 and Canon EOS Rebel T6 but much Studio HD won’t pick up the signal. What am I doing wrong?
Eric Melendez make sure the atem is set to the frame rate your cameras are outputting. For example 1080 59.94i or 1080p 29.97 etc
What does that "rackrider" do?
I’ve watched some of your services. How do you implement your countdown and intro videos at the beginning. We have ATEM tv studio switcher
We run our iMac ProPresenter feeds into our ATEM through a Decimator so we can use it on the stream as well.
G9 does tho
But you’re also not recording through the cameras, just sending the video image to the actual recorder in sound booth
John-Marc Edwards Thanks. That helps.
Gh5/Gh4
What dummy batteries are you using
Also is there any lag on your wireless hdmi
How about sound? How are you obtaining and routing the audio?
We've actually made a video covering that. ruclips.net/video/XNAzI5RtPc8/видео.html
Thank you Ryland for sharing. We're a new ministry and wanted to know if our budget is limited and we start with the G7 Panasonic camera, a tripod and a laptop would that be sufficient for the beginning process? All under $1,000? We do plan to stream.
That will work well I would advise getting a good lens with fast aperture to use with your G7
