Thanks to great upload of important video.
In 1987 when Don came to Japan from New York, I took him to sightseeing around Tokyo. Then after his coming back, he sent me his record personally. At that time Don was teacher of Colombia University. It was good memory working in Korg.

This was played towards the very end of one of the Music Magic videos produced by Silver Burdett Ginn: Keyboards.

That's some setup!!! I wish Korg made instruments like that today. They looked gorgeous back then.

I'm sure he could have done it with a couple of Kronoses as well...Wish more people made synth-demoes like this today though.

Yeah, but Kronos doesn't look good. The large touchscreen looks very cheesy. It also has cheap hardware inside. Also, the problem is that today's instrument have so much automation, patterns triggered with one finger, arpeggiators, etc. Those things detract from playing music on the keyboard. The DSS-1 and DS-8 were musical instruments in the true sense, and that is demonstrated in this video. I'd love to have those instruments in brand new condition. They are so desirable. Kronos is not desirable. It's based on a cheapest PC motherboard you can imagine, with Intel Atom. $100 hardware inside. I really wouldn't want that. I prefer dedicated hardware.

I agree on most of that, but as a place-saving compromise Kronos too is still desirable to me. However, mostly I'm ending up playing the piano anyway, and from that aspect I could live with the Yamaha Montage, only for the pianos (if money wasn't an issue). In real life I downloaded the Moog Model 15 app on my Ipad. Sounds promising.

+Mats H Montage looks and feels better than the Kronos, however the "super knob", the LCD, and the Nord Lead style encoders are not to my liking. So I am enjoying keyboard instruments from eBay. My favorite electronic keyboard instruments were manufactured between 1987-1991.

I think when the M1 came out, it must have shattered all synthesizer world up to that day.

Looks like he's using the SQD-1 for sequencing the rack stuff as well, next to the DDD-1

Hey are his pedals something he made or did Korg sell those too? It looks homemade but maybe it's just some legacy product that's discontinued.

It must be a bespoke product. Yamaha doesn't even have Electone distributor in the U.S. Such low is the demand for organ type of instruments in our collapsed civilization.
