Interestingly, Childhood Memories has very little presence both on western internet and in the western literature curriculum in general. I did not get any results looking for it in English or German, and had to type out the title in Kanji to read anything about the book. Similarly, I've never heard about Childhood Memories in person despite reading some of Hesse's other novels such as Demian or Steppenwolf or Siddharta both in school and out of curiosity. If I understand the Japanese Wikipedia page correctly, the reason for its popularity in Japan is solely the work of a singular scholar, Kenji Takahashi, who was given an early draft of the story by Hesse in person and dedicated towards translating it into his native language. His translation would later become a mainstay for books used by the Japanese education system, 70 years and counting. Sorry for the obnoxious wall of text, I just thought it was interesting to mention. What's a nearly completely unknown short story in Germany, had become possibly the very first piece of Western literature many Japanese interact with in their lives. Beyond that, great vid. Lots of information that I and many other people who do not speak Japanese would otherwise never have known about....but I guess that's the point of the channel to begin with...

also, in nunununununun's channel, there's actually 2 zundamons! zundamon being the girl, she rarely appears and if i think im wrong here but, zundamon only appears in the mayo video and their new mayo parody video, the other zundamon is not zundamon, it's ZUMONDAN!, the male version of zundamon, zumondan is the one that always appears in nununununu's video, wearing the white, loosen shirt... (and they dont have any underwear beneath their over-sized shirt.) I discovered this by doing some research in their youtube and niconico (before it was hacked) channels.
I can't help but watch nununununun's videos. I wondered who ZUMONDAN was, but in nununununun's videos, it was indeed ZUMONDAN. 🤣 I just realized it after watching earlier. Thank you for letting me know.🌱✨
