I always believed it’s so much more meta than that. The first half of the opening had no Sid at all and everyone’s bright and happy and fighting evil in the open. Maybe the god of war at the end of the season does manage to find her sister or whatever it was and she was the one who saved the girls turning them into the x men of the world fighting evil and injustice. Then the second half sid shows up and the entire world warps around him

My theory for the Eminence in Shadow opening focuses largely on the tv. Cid turns on the tv and it switched to the girls in a modern world where they’re superheroes. I’ve always thought that this was representing how Cid views the girls, as main characters in some fantasy hero show.
If you want to see how “Cheeky” High school DXD can be then watch the endings, that’s where it really is for these types of animes as you saw with the Eminence in Shadow ending. Also that wasn’t the only opening for High school DXD or even the first one, each season has a subtitle for it like the one you watched was High school DXD Hero. Also on the opposite side of things I think you should check out the original Japanese openings to Digimon and the OSTs, hell I recommend the original Pokémon ones too if the 4Kids version is all you ever saw.
I just started re-watching "High School DxD" and I was wondering how he would handle the first 5 seconds of the season 1 OP, but that's just on the Bluray/Streaming OP and this is season 4's OP.

The opening of DxD you saw is the most tame content that the entire show has to offer. Op3 is also very tame but that is really all. But to be fair, DxD is the pinnacle of ecchi with both, plot and "plot".

I'm still sad that one of the creators of HOTD unfortunately passed away, and the Manga will never be finished. I own both full color hardcovers, and most of the single volumes - in both English and Japanese, as the author was one of the first Japanese Mangaka that actually reached out to the overseas fans and said he was okay with fan translations but to please buy the volumes if you could. So I imported the Japanese volumes until the English ones came out and then started buying those.
if Masou Gakuen Hybrid x Heart had gotten multiple seasons it would have easily outstripped what Redo of Healer does as it covers just about every fetish possible.

Just finished the anime recently. People said it's similar to Overlord in some ways so i gave it a try. Opening had very little to do with the actual show 😂
I'm actually not sure about that... I haven't read the LNs - just the manga up to a point ahead of the anime - but I'm not sure if what you see in the opening isn't actually some sort of foreshadowing of what might happen in the story far ahead the show. Can't even flag that as spoilers, since it's mostly my speculations - but the manga at least hints that Cid WILL make at least one trip into the 'real world' at one point - and his girls already pushed the technological & cultural progression in the their world to include Fast Food & automobiles even in the anime. First I thought the scenes in the opening might be just made up shit as well - but I'm not completely sold on it any more - it might just be where the story is heading to - with Shadow Garden basically 'recreating' a full-fledged copy of Cid's original world sooner or later... Since I've heard the LN being like FAR ahead of the manga and especially the anime in story, this might even be possible to check right now - but I decided to not spoil myself too much.

Prison School is one of the animes that I slept on for years and when I finally watched it, it became one of my favorite comedies of all time in any forms of media ever.
All of these shows are much more anime than some other shows that ride the line much more closely, High School DxD and HOTD are some classic Ecchi(lewd) anime that are fun to watch.

Eminence in Shadow is just SO MUCH DUMB FUN! It's the most fun with an Isekai I had in years and I can't recommend it enough over how it takes itself absolutely not serious, can't wait for S.2 in fall. :D

So Luke, the opening Eminence in Shadow performed by the Oxt band you know from Overlord, and the endingi as you rightly pointed out performed by the seiyuu of those heroines you saw on screen (and I think there was still one version with Eta). As for High School DxD you watched from the opening to the latest season, and there are 4 seasons and the previous openings were more chicky (not to mention the endings), not to mention what happens in the anime itself because there are even more powerful things going on there (much like Highschool of the Dead and Prison School). But there are some anime that are even more capable of being chicky, and not just in the episodes themselves but also in the openings or endings. Again, I remind you of endings from previous series what you have already checked out openings (Ranking of Kings, Fire Force, Psycho Pass, Gintama and others). And I also recommend doing reactions to sports anime as it was before to Haikyuu, here it recommends Kuroko no Basket (all openings and endings and there are some and also the same for the other recommendations), Ballroom e youkoso, Hajime no Ippo, Major, One Outs. For that, again, I recommend an anime called Rainbow with 1 opening and 1 ending which are performed by metal bands (Coldrain opening and Galneryus ending) and then you could full versions of one and the other to listen to as well. Of course tbh being an anime fan for so long I barely blink at fan service at this point. I have nothing against some fan service at all. For OG anime fans. Queens Blade is a show that will awoken something in them. I don't think I'll ever forget that bunny slime girl or Risty... no matter how hard I try. The funny thing anime went through a few phases where it couldn't decide how much censoring it wanted to do. Eventually they gave up and release both an censored and uncensored version. For those who some Ecchi in their life. Valkyrie Drive Mermaid - No male main character. You want your Yuri. I got ya. Monster Musume - Monster girls... do you want a kinky spider waifu? I didn't at first. Now I do. Worlds End Harem - A show about being one of the last few men on earth. If you're lucky you might not be kidnapped and used as breeding stock. Good luck fellow men. Heavens Lost Property - A fallen angel... Sign me up? The testament of sister new devil - Forced into a contract with a demon through a succubus. Some men dream of this? Campoine! - GODS! Who doesn't want to have a chance with a god? Not classed as Ecchi but I swear it has a few moments.
Lol, the first thing you see in the first DxD OP is MULTIPLE full-frontals. It's funny, my friends and I had this bet (I can't even remember what it was, lol) back in my freshman year of highschool, and the loser had to watch all of DxD, three seasons at the time. I lost but as a straight female, I couldn't care less about the boobs (was pretty down bad for Kiba, tho) and found myself genuinely enjoying the story. Would definitely recommend.
man the nostalgia I had listening to Hotd and Dxd ops was something else. Also the director of Hotd is the same guy who did Death note,attack on titan and many more beloved series. This series was his break out one (in a sense that studios allowed him to experiment more) which got him onto other projects, The ODM gear animation of AOT was prototyped in this show by him which evolved into the amazing 3d 2d titan fights (you can see traces of it in the op as well).
Prison school ( really funny btw ) doesn't actually show much cheeky, its mostly implied. For the good cheeky cheeky "DxD" and another show "To love ru" is where you can find auto cancel stuff 👍
There was a phase in recent anime history where there was at least 1 show every season trying to push the boundary between anime & the height of degeneracy. Stuff ranging from the touring of otherworldy brothels to the aggrandizing of sex slave ownership to [redacted for legal reasons]. The shows covered in this video were definitely considered as shows that pushed the boundary for their time but I imagine if you said that about them now, most fans in the know would hit you w/ an "Oh you sweet summer child".
I would say, out of the ones that you reacted on this video, the one that push the boundaries is Prison school, also absolutely hilarious, would be a good watch, but maybe by yourself 😂
Now I really want him to watch Redo of Healer... not even the opening, just straight into episode 1 (preferably the uncensored version) with absolutely zero context... Doesn't have to be shown on screen... Even if it's just the audio and subtitles, I'm satisfied. If we're gonna dive into the deep end, we might as well start in the deepest pits of hell.
If you want another show like H.O.T.D but with the ecchi swapped out for psychological horror, there is a sadly little known wholesome anime called School Live
Redo of Healer and Testament of Sister New Devil are probably the biggest offenders as far as skirting the line. Eminence in Shadow is probably the most tame here while Highschool DxD has some of the "cheekiest" stuff but it's still kind of average as far as ecchi anime go. DxD gets put up there more because compared to a lot of ecchi anime it's pretty good at least the first couple of seasons. It being more like a battle Shonen it was also a lot of people's introduction into more cheeky anime. Some times people will want more after watching it while others just give stuff they otherwise wrote off things as bad for being to cheeky a chance. As far as these type of shows go Monogatari is regarded as the best but personally I've always liked To Love-Ru however that's because I'm a manga reader. Another good one that has a good anime and ops is Date A Live which came out around the time of DxD. I'd also recommend Danmachi but you've already watched the ops to that I think.
@@An_Actual_Kiwi In my mind IR is just hentai and I often forget it's not. While with Redo of Healer I couldn't help but think it should have been and Sister New Devil straight up blacks out whole scenes for minutes in the censored version.
The Eminence in Shadow is an anime I didn't expect to enjoy at first, and it took probably five or six episodes before I warmed up to it. I think I had watched maybe one or two episodes when they released, took a break from it when it had maybe seven to nine episodes out, decided to give it a proper chance and started watching it from the beginning and at some point I couldn't put it down anymore until I run out of episodes and I knew I wanted to see more. I still think the beginning was quite peculiar, and after the beginning it felt like it had a shift in direction or something but once I understood what the anime was about then all I could really think about was "oh, this is cool". I'm definitely looking forward to the second season. One thing I'd like to say. You'll never guess what the Eminence is about based on its opening. Never. Often anime openings show something that is at least somewhat relevant to the anime but in a way the Eminence opening is a bunch of nonsense.
Fun language note in the HSotD opening! At the drop, you can hear the lines "Nani ga iru? Nani ga aru?". "Iru" is used when speaking about something living, while "aru" is used when speaking about something non-living. Pretty appropriate for a show about the living vs the undead.

Kishida Kyoudan & The Akeboshi Rockets did the opening for High School of the Dead and they also did openings for Strike the Blood (almost every opening for the series), Nejimaki Seirei Senki: Tenkyou no Alderamin, GATE (both seasons), Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens, and Tensei shitara Ken deshita (Reincarnated as a Sword). They also performed the second ending for Toaru Kagaku no Railgun T (A Certain Scientific Railgun). Like Myth&Roid they only produce bangers.
Highschool Of The Dead Was Such A Good Anime and The Story was Well Conveyed, and it became such a hype when its first released, But It's A Sad Thing That We Wont Ever Reach The Ending Of The Story Because The Author Died From Heart Attack R.I.P for the Author of Highschool of The Dead
If you want some anime that are actually pushing the boundry I'd recommend both "Interspecies Reviewers" aswell as to a lesser degree "Redo of Healer"!
Eminence in Shadow is an amazingly good anime. About a guy who wants to be a hero from the shadows and during the day he just tries to be a background character. He always wants to obtain magic and he gets isekai to a world with it and he lies about stuff that just become true. He just makes stuff up and it becomes true. The girls are all the members of his fighting force that he recruited. That's pretty much all I will say. Hopefully didn't say too much, but that's a good general idea what it is about.

WHOOO, DXD! One of my all time favorite's! Thats the op for season 3. Now watch the opening for season one, I DARE you. I would actually classify DXD as reasonably wholesome, more so than you'd expect. Family friendly though? Nah. Although, if you want something really wholesome, I recommend I've Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed Out My Level. Thats a fun, mostly wholesome one about doing as little as possible. Alternatively, Date a Live is also a lot of fun.

i would rewatch prison school, i love that anime... i hope it gets another season, but it's hard unlikely. i read all the manga, i only do that when i'm heavy invested... very unfortunate the series drops the ball at the very end, but it is what it is.
Dude I swear - Prison School is very cheeky but it is also one of the funniest things I've ever watched. The fanservice is alright but the comedy is beyond hilarious - for me, no other Anime even comes close to this. You gotta watch it for that. ^^
Eminence in shadow is one of my favourite anime in a long time. But I only just realised how I personally think that the op and ed are very misleading and add close to nothing to the anime. Yet if you know the MC, kinda almost feel like something he’d definitely do to screw people over. But it’s the anime is hard to explain, especially with my skills at explaining things. Just that it’s awesome and can’t wait for season 2 in October (roughly) I wasn’t expecting a reaction to this, and even more so a reaction to Highschool DxD and Highschool of the Dead.. Eminence in Shadow is peak isekai (being transported to another world, luke Tanya or Slime) You watched the opening of the newest and worst season of Highschool DxD, made by a different studio than the original. Oldschool Highschool DxD is peak ecchi (softcore), you NEED to watch the 2012 High School DxD Ending 1 (close the door and shut the windows) Highschool of the Dead is peak anime. back in the day there wasn't much boundaries to be pushed lol, a lot of ecchi animes straight up showed the characters naked like highschool dxd and rosario vampire to name a few, this days you see way less stuff like that because they attempt to reach a wider audience, but you still have some from time to time like cyberpunk edgerunners (which was straight up anime for adults)
There are some that pushed that boundary like ishuzoku reviwers or the redo of a healer, the first is more cheeky but the second, redo of a healer ooff, didn't expect that at all, especially considering that it also have an uncensored version, the openings are good though

The Eminence in Shadow is a pretty fun series! It's when a chuunibyou is reincarnated in another world where people can have powers and he decided to fulfil his fantasies. The twist is he thinks they're mostly fantasies and doesn't realize things are as serious as he was making them up to be. Pretty funny and cool! The EDs are sung by the female VAs and the video you saw for it put all of the different versions together. HS DXD is... really fanservicey. I don't really mind fanservice but it was just too much in this show that it felt so awkward to watch. Couldn't get past episode 2 without feeling uncomfortable lol. I heard that it's got a really good story though! Highschool of the Dead is fun as well (haven't finished watching it but I'm planning to get to it someday). The ED song is quite good, too! The artist draws hentai and it's obvious lol. The author died years ago though and it would never have an ending which kinda suck. There's a new version of the OP created like, recently and the MV is good. OP suggestions: Outlaw Star, Get Backers (I love OP1), and the OPs of Needless (there's 2).
Yes Highschool DXD escpially Later will tun into a Full blown Battle Shounen after Volumen 12 there the Focus is more the War against the CHaos Faction and the Hero Faction who wants to Restart the great War because Angeös ,Devil and Fallen Angels alon with many other Mythologies have made peace with each another but Some people don"t like this and Creating a Terror organisation Called Chaos Brigade there plan is to rekindle the War between the myothologies
High School of the Dead has to be one of the greatest anime out there. That show is a timeless masterpiece. It's so sad that the author of the manga and the singer of the opening both passed away prematurely. Gone too soon.

oh god a highschool dxd op reaction… yea its definitely something its a series that is very and i mean VERY “cheeky” thx to its protagonist who is pretty much an open pervert resulting in the wackiness of the series like for example the protagonist powers increase based on his desires so he is either coaxed or motivated by his loves for boobs to many other characters dismay, chagrin or amusement the fact that his powers stems from a near god-like dragon does not help this at all since it allows reality to distort a bit into his favor that for a time the trigger for his transformation into his power up form was to press the nipples of the heroine as if he was flipping a switch much to her embarrassment as other characters stated calling her “switch princess” becuase of it and one time he even had to delay his power up a bit because he didnt know whether to press the left or right nipple (he settled on both simultaneously) said near god-like dragon (its the welsh dragon btw) even at one point had an existential crisis because of how the protagonist was utilizing his powers overall the series is actually backed up by its world building and the rest of the cast as it barrows from many myths and religion around the world on top of the over the top fanservice
If you want something that really threatens the boundaries to be an anime(for better or for worst) there's Ishuzoku Reviewers and The Redo of a Healer, one is quite nice and fun and the other is not very pleasant...

@yuuto7086 pretty sure if memory serves theres was a wierd skip in between the season before hero going into it leading to some plot confusion especially around the some of the side characters so hero kinda just happens but it has been a while so memory could just be wonked

the eminence in the shadow's opening tells absolutely nothing about the show, it's actually quite amazing.
I always believed it’s so much more meta than that.
The first half of the opening had no Sid at all and everyone’s bright and happy and fighting evil in the open. Maybe the god of war at the end of the season does manage to find her sister or whatever it was and she was the one who saved the girls turning them into the x men of the world fighting evil and injustice.
Then the second half sid shows up and the entire world warps around him

My theory for the Eminence in Shadow opening focuses largely on the tv.
Cid turns on the tv and it switched to the girls in a modern world where they’re superheroes. I’ve always thought that this was representing how Cid views the girls, as main characters in some fantasy hero show.
If you want to see how “Cheeky” High school DXD can be then watch the endings, that’s where it really is for these types of animes as you saw with the Eminence in Shadow ending. Also that wasn’t the only opening for High school DXD or even the first one, each season has a subtitle for it like the one you watched was High school DXD Hero.
Also on the opposite side of things I think you should check out the original Japanese openings to Digimon and the OSTs, hell I recommend the original Pokémon ones too if the 4Kids version is all you ever saw.

The opening of DxD you saw is the most tame content that the entire show has to offer. Op3 is also very tame but that is really all.
But to be fair, DxD is the pinnacle of ecchi with both, plot and "plot".

I'm still sad that one of the creators of HOTD unfortunately passed away, and the Manga will never be finished. I own both full color hardcovers, and most of the single volumes - in both English and Japanese, as the author was one of the first Japanese Mangaka that actually reached out to the overseas fans and said he was okay with fan translations but to please buy the volumes if you could. So I imported the Japanese volumes until the English ones came out and then started buying those.

Just finished the anime recently. People said it's similar to Overlord in some ways so i gave it a try. Opening had very little to do with the actual show 😂

I haven't read the LNs - just the manga up to a point ahead of the anime - but I'm not sure if what you see in the opening isn't actually some sort of foreshadowing of what might happen in the story far ahead the show. Can't even flag that as spoilers, since it's mostly my speculations - but the manga at least hints that Cid WILL make at least one trip into the 'real world' at one point - and his girls already pushed the technological & cultural progression in the their world to include Fast Food & automobiles even in the anime.
First I thought the scenes in the opening might be just made up shit as well - but I'm not completely sold on it any more - it might just be where the story is heading to - with Shadow Garden basically 'recreating' a full-fledged copy of Cid's original world sooner or later...
Since I've heard the LN being like FAR ahead of the manga and especially the anime in story, this might even be possible to check right now - but I decided to not spoil myself too much.

Prison School is one of the animes that I slept on for years and when I finally watched it, it became one of my favorite comedies of all time in any forms of media ever.
Eminence is one of the best comedy series from recent times. The more experience you have with anime, the funnier Eminence gets to be.
All of these shows are much more anime than some other shows that ride the line much more closely, High School DxD and HOTD are some classic Ecchi(lewd) anime that are fun to watch.

High School DxD - probably the most cultured anime in existence.
So Luke, the opening Eminence in Shadow performed by the Oxt band you know from Overlord, and the endingi as you rightly pointed out performed by the seiyuu of those heroines you saw on screen (and I think there was still one version with Eta).
As for High School DxD you watched from the opening to the latest season, and there are 4 seasons and the previous openings were more chicky (not to mention the endings), not to mention what happens in the anime itself because there are even more powerful things going on there (much like Highschool of the Dead and Prison School).
But there are some anime that are even more capable of being chicky, and not just in the episodes themselves but also in the openings or endings.
Again, I remind you of endings from previous series what you have already checked out openings (Ranking of Kings, Fire Force, Psycho Pass, Gintama and others). And I also recommend doing reactions to sports anime as it was before to Haikyuu, here it recommends Kuroko no Basket (all openings and endings and there are some and also the same for the other recommendations), Ballroom e youkoso, Hajime no Ippo, Major, One Outs. For that, again, I recommend an anime called Rainbow with 1 opening and 1 ending which are performed by metal bands (Coldrain opening and Galneryus ending) and then you could full versions of one and the other to listen to as well.
My my other recommendations:

Pushing boundaries.... erm... I could name more than a handful times where Japan sets the boundary and then a new anime comes out where they push the anime ever so slightly beyond it. Of course tbh being an anime fan for so long I barely blink at fan service at this point. I have nothing against some fan service at all. For OG anime fans. Queens Blade is a show that will awoken something in them. I don't think I'll ever forget that bunny slime girl or Risty... no matter how hard I try. The funny thing anime went through a few phases where it couldn't decide how much censoring it wanted to do. Eventually they gave up and release both an censored and uncensored version. For those who some Ecchi in their life.
Valkyrie Drive Mermaid - No male main character. You want your Yuri. I got ya.
Monster Musume - Monster girls... do you want a kinky spider waifu? I didn't at first. Now I do.

Lol, the first thing you see in the first DxD OP is MULTIPLE full-frontals.
It's funny, my friends and I had this bet (I can't even remember what it was, lol) back in my freshman year of highschool, and the loser had to watch all of DxD, three seasons at the time.
I lost but as a straight female, I couldn't care less about the boobs (was pretty down bad for Kiba, tho) and found myself genuinely enjoying the story. Would definitely recommend.
With this animes I am always reminded of Ikki Tousen :D After half of the first season I was immune to such scenes with more "skin" xD
man the nostalgia I had listening to Hotd and Dxd ops was something else. Also the director of Hotd is the same guy who did Death note,attack on titan and many more beloved series. This series was his break out one (in a sense that studios allowed him to experiment more) which got him onto other projects, The ODM gear animation of AOT was prototyped in this show by him which evolved into the amazing 3d 2d titan fights (you can see traces of it in the op as well).
Prison school ( really funny btw ) doesn't actually show much cheeky, its mostly implied. For the good cheeky cheeky "DxD" and another show "To love ru" is where you can find auto cancel stuff 👍
There was a phase in recent anime history where there was at least 1 show every season trying to push the boundary between anime & the height of degeneracy. Stuff ranging from the touring of otherworldy brothels to the aggrandizing of sex slave ownership to [redacted for legal reasons]. The shows covered in this video were definitely considered as shows that pushed the boundary for their time but I imagine if you said that about them now, most fans in the know would hit you w/ an "Oh you sweet summer child".
I would say, out of the ones that you reacted on this video, the one that push the boundaries is Prison school, also absolutely hilarious, would be a good watch, but maybe by yourself 😂

Redo of Healer and Testament of Sister New Devil are probably the biggest offenders as far as skirting the line. Eminence in Shadow is probably the most tame here while Highschool DxD has some of the "cheekiest" stuff but it's still kind of average as far as ecchi anime go.
DxD gets put up there more because compared to a lot of ecchi anime it's pretty good at least the first couple of seasons. It being more like a battle Shonen it was also a lot of people's introduction into more cheeky anime. Some times people will want more after watching it while others just give stuff they otherwise wrote off things as bad for being to cheeky a chance.
As far as these type of shows go Monogatari is regarded as the best but personally I've always liked To Love-Ru however that's because I'm a manga reader. Another good one that has a good anime and ops is Date A Live which came out around the time of DxD. I'd also recommend Danmachi but you've already watched the ops to that I think.

The Eminence in Shadow is an anime I didn't expect to enjoy at first, and it took probably five or six episodes before I warmed up to it. I think I had watched maybe one or two episodes when they released, took a break from it when it had maybe seven to nine episodes out, decided to give it a proper chance and started watching it from the beginning and at some point I couldn't put it down anymore until I run out of episodes and I knew I wanted to see more. I still think the beginning was quite peculiar, and after the beginning it felt like it had a shift in direction or something but once I understood what the anime was about then all I could really think about was "oh, this is cool". I'm definitely looking forward to the second season.
One thing I'd like to say. You'll never guess what the Eminence is about based on its opening. Never. Often anime openings show something that is at least somewhat relevant to the anime but in a way the Eminence opening is a bunch of nonsense.
U should definitely check out the OSTs from “The eminence in shadow” , they are on a whole other level from it’s opening theme.

Fun language note in the HSotD opening! At the drop, you can hear the lines "Nani ga iru? Nani ga aru?". "Iru" is used when speaking about something living, while "aru" is used when speaking about something non-living. Pretty appropriate for a show about the living vs the undead.

Kishida Kyoudan & The Akeboshi Rockets did the opening for High School of the Dead and they also did openings for Strike the Blood (almost every opening for the series), Nejimaki Seirei Senki: Tenkyou no Alderamin, GATE (both seasons), Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens, and Tensei shitara Ken deshita (Reincarnated as a Sword). They also performed the second ending for Toaru Kagaku no Railgun T (A Certain Scientific Railgun). Like Myth&Roid they only produce bangers.

Eminence in Shadow is an amazingly good anime. About a guy who wants to be a hero from the shadows and during the day he just tries to be a background character. He always wants to obtain magic and he gets isekai to a world with it and he lies about stuff that just become true. He just makes stuff up and it becomes true. The girls are all the members of his fighting force that he recruited. That's pretty much all I will say. Hopefully didn't say too much, but that's a good general idea what it is about.

I would actually classify DXD as reasonably wholesome, more so than you'd expect. Family friendly though? Nah.
Although, if you want something really wholesome, I recommend I've Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed Out My Level. Thats a fun, mostly wholesome one about doing as little as possible. Alternatively, Date a Live is also a lot of fun.

i would rewatch prison school, i love that anime... i hope it gets another season, but it's hard unlikely. i read all the manga, i only do that when i'm heavy invested... very unfortunate the series drops the ball at the very end, but it is what it is.

Yet if you know the MC, kinda almost feel like something he’d definitely do to screw people over. But it’s the anime is hard to explain, especially with my skills at explaining things. Just that it’s awesome and can’t wait for season 2 in October (roughly)

You watched the opening of the newest and worst season of Highschool DxD, made by a different studio than the original. Oldschool Highschool DxD is peak ecchi (softcore), you NEED to watch the 2012 High School DxD Ending 1 (close the door and shut the windows)
Highschool of the Dead is peak anime. Episode 1. is probably the most realistic portrayal of average humans at the start of the apocalypse I've ever seen.

back in the day there wasn't much boundaries to be pushed lol, a lot of ecchi animes straight up showed the characters naked like highschool dxd and rosario vampire to name a few, this days you see way less stuff like that because they attempt to reach a wider audience, but you still have some from time to time like cyberpunk edgerunners (which was straight up anime for adults)

There are some that pushed that boundary like ishuzoku reviwers or the redo of a healer, the first is more cheeky but the second, redo of a healer ooff, didn't expect that at all, especially considering that it also have an uncensored version, the openings are good though

H.O.T.D., apart from the fan-service, is seriously good. BTW, all 12 ep's of H.O.T.D. have different ending songs and they ALL are bangers.
The Eminence in Shadow is a pretty fun series! It's when a chuunibyou is reincarnated in another world where people can have powers and he decided to fulfil his fantasies. The twist is he thinks they're mostly fantasies and doesn't realize things are as serious as he was making them up to be. Pretty funny and cool! The EDs are sung by the female VAs and the video you saw for it put all of the different versions together.
HS DXD is... really fanservicey. I don't really mind fanservice but it was just too much in this show that it felt so awkward to watch. Couldn't get past episode 2 without feeling uncomfortable lol. I heard that it's got a really good story though!
Highschool of the Dead is fun as well (haven't finished watching it but I'm planning to get to it someday). The ED song is quite good, too! The artist draws hentai and it's obvious lol. The author died years ago though and it would never have an ending which kinda suck. There's a new version of the OP created like, recently and the MV is good.

Yes Highschool DXD escpially Later will tun into a Full blown Battle Shounen after Volumen 12 there the Focus is more the War against the CHaos Faction and the Hero Faction who wants to Restart the great War because Angeös ,Devil and Fallen Angels alon with many other Mythologies have made peace with each another but Some people don"t like this and Creating a Terror organisation Called Chaos Brigade there plan is to rekindle the War between the myothologies

High School of the Dead has to be one of the greatest anime out there. That show is a timeless masterpiece. It's so sad that the author of the manga and the singer of the opening both passed away prematurely. Gone too soon.

its a series that is very and i mean VERY “cheeky” thx to its protagonist who is pretty much an open pervert resulting in the wackiness of the series like for example the protagonist powers increase based on his desires so he is either coaxed or motivated by his loves for boobs to many other characters dismay, chagrin or amusement
the fact that his powers stems from a near god-like dragon does not help this at all since it allows reality to distort a bit into his favor that for a time the trigger for his transformation into his power up form was to press the nipples of the heroine as if he was flipping a switch much to her embarrassment as other characters stated calling her “switch princess” becuase of it and one time he even had to delay his power up a bit because he didnt know whether to press the left or right nipple (he settled on both simultaneously)
said near god-like dragon (its the welsh dragon btw) even at one point had an existential crisis because of how the protagonist was utilizing his powers
overall the series is actually backed up by its world building and the rest of the cast as it barrows from many myths and religion around the world on top of the over the top fanservice
If you want something that really threatens the boundaries to be an anime(for better or for worst) there's Ishuzoku Reviewers and The Redo of a Healer, one is quite nice and fun and the other is not very pleasant...
Luke, you just reacted to 1 of 4 Highschool DxD openings. It was after the change in studio, so it's really toned down. You should really check openings 1 to 3. Also the first ending is iconic but also incredibly cheeky.
All of these animes are actually really good, highly recommend watching
