Storm surge of super typhoon Haiyan making landfall near Tacloban City, The Philippines

- The animation shows computed storm surge levels and wind vectors as super typhoon Haiyan makes landfall near Tacloban City, The Philippines. Surge levels were computed using Delft3D two days after landfall. The wind fields are based on JTWC data.
The model predicts maximum surge levels exceeding 5 metres near Tacloban City. The peak surge occurs some time after the cyclone has made landfall. At this point, the winds near Tacloban City change direction from easterly to southeasterly, and the cyclone starts pushing water into San Pedro and San Pablo Bay (i.e. the northwesterly part of Leyte Gulf).
Tides and wind waves were not included in the simulation.

I was in sulat eastern samar at that time I still remember our roof getting torn apart in school we quickly ran to the other room and ducked as the roof was pulled in the air and to the ground
Were from Tacloban and after Yolanda we moved to Luzon Region ... And thank God all my families ,relatives and friends are survivors. The most scariest thing that i've experienced ever , that you heard them crying ( mom's with newborn babies on one bed )and you can hear the howling of the wind , the shattered glasses breaking & splattering next to my legs and your just waiting will it hit me next time ? That day i just cried , pray and unbelievably i was singing and weeping . (the Holy Spirit moved me to sing for my family & friends to be saved . The song was " Still" i don't know why ?! And then a black water came it was rapidly fast up to my waist then to my neck. Were all screaming , we had to get out of the room,or will be drowning & stucked. You can ' t see anything but darkness and afraid that our skin will be cut with glasses , or a chunk of metal underneath . I can terribly feel that moment the walls are shaking and about to crashed . Praised God as we walked on the hall, heading out those walls are still standing and somehow my numb body was relieved , that there's no more roof to be crashed above our heads. !
Yolanda was a nightmare hearing those sounds. After two hours of devastation in Palo we got out of the hospital and to my dismay all homes , buildings ..and huge posts are crippled and shattered like paper. 😱We had no food to eat and we had to walk a long miles, find some shelter to sleep bec. we had a newborn baby , me & my close buddy w/ his gf who just gaved birth, her mom and her sister. ! That first night i even heard stories from those teachers who survived, that might scare you up , more dead bodies. ! Then explaining how they had been rescued from muds & water . I don't have an appetite to even eat , were just walking & terrified, thank God someone offered us a help to dropped us off in Caibaan at 6pm. And my friend told me that their wooden house was miraculously survived !God is awesome & helped us in so many ways . And i thank Him i only witnessed two dead bodies near the hospital. Then after two days i went home saved by His grace , walking around for an hour .Meeting friends along the way , asking where did i go ? What happened to me ? Seeing some crashed roads , broken glasses people walking from different direction , seeking for water , food and shelter. And then another heartbreaking part crushed me up again... you got choked up seeing - death toll , wrapped up in body bags near Kassel Holmes. Thank God we lived in Nula - Tula ( most people are saved ) from storm surged & our old house are still standing but the whole roof was gone.

Odette (Typhoon Rai) made first landfall in the Philippines on the island of Siargao, almost 120 miles southeast of Tacloban. From there it traveled east to Cebu where is seemed like it was going to just move into Cebu and just live there forever. This is Typhoon Haiyan or Yolanda
