My wife and I ended up seated with John and his wife at a local Hibachi grill here in Nashville area the other day. GREAT people! They are humble and kind, and we talked the whole time, as we have music is common. I was so excited to have been able to spend lunch eating with them, by chance. He's one of my favorite voices ever. I'm not one who usually gets starstruck over meeting a famous person, but it wasn't his fame I was excited about. It was his talent, and now it's also him as a person that I think highly of. Not only a great songwriter, but one of the most incredible voices I've ever heard. Couldn't get enough of his music since the first I heard it, and especially after a heartbreak. Crying shame great talents like John Berry just aren't mainstream and lousy enough to be popular. Good country music is a bygone era at this point.

We went to see John's Christmas show in Chillicothe Ohio last night 15 dec 12 and it was FANTASTIC. The power in John's voice and the extreme energy he put into the show all night long was unbeliveable. If you ever have an opportunity to see John perform live GO DO IT. We traveled from out of town to get there and it was worth it. GREAT JOB John, Robin and band.
That question has always puzzeled me also, I wonder what the "music business" is like behind the scenes. It has to be who's who, who you know, if you are liked or disliked, personality, lifestyle, new or seasoned etc. I heard Blake say -about 10+ years ago- he saw the song (on paper) that Toby recorded "I Wanna Talk About Me" before Toby recorded it. He said he wanted that song, his manager -or who-ever... told him, no it's to soon for rap style in country. Blake said a month later Toby was singin it on the radio! That has always been a curiosity of mine, ......who says who gets to record what song??...Gosh Darn-it!!! --te hee hee
because that is not how it works. It is more than "god given voices" that make you a top artist. That's why CMA is in place. Don't get me wrong. John Berry is awesome, but his is just not a top artist. There is A LOT of competition in the market. However, I figure John Berry is doing just fine for himself and is probably a pretty happy guy with his career.
