My Pit Boss Elite Vertical Smoker Series 6 failed me again tonight. My unit is 5 months old, and so far I've had to replace the igniter, and the fan. The PB worked for a couple of months until last night when the hopper caught on fire. Today PB told me that they are sending me a new auger motor, and waiting for a supervisors approval to replace the control panel. Tonight I'm smoking a spatchcock chicken on my Traeger Ironwood XL that never fails me. PB get it together!!
@@kenljohnston I really hate to hear all these horror stories about the vertical 6. I'm still waiting on parts as well. There needs to be a new version of the vertical to fix these issues.
I've had mine for 2 or 3 years. I love it! The only minor thing I've noticed is when you have something big on those racks you need to rotate it every hour or so to keep it cooking evenly. I've done turkeys and briskets. The front (near the door) does not cook as fast as the rear because there is no hot air hitting it directly. Those vents in the back and sides bring the smoke from the burn pot to the racks.
As soon as my warranty expires, I'm installing some stainless slides to be able to use the racks like drawers and pull them out without them falling and then installing an compact industrial grade hedge that can handle the heat and installing on top left corner of the smoker and door so it will stay open when getting food out.
Between having to put in a new temp sensor in my older Series 5 smoker and it looks like the probable replacement of the igniter in my Pro Series 6, I’m starting to wonder how my Pit Boss 401k is doing. I feel like a PB employee.
Hi big y a italian and in italy we dont have bbq culture y was live in Miami and love bbq y need buy a vertical pellet smoker what is the beast? ty so much
For whatever reason the pellets in the auger catches fire and backlogs to the pellets. I have even resorted to light amounts of pellets and filling as needed and still catches fire. That's just my experience.
@robhav11 It is a design flaw. I had the same thing happen with my pit boss brunswick. It happened during the shutdown process for me. The eventually semt me a new one and ot kept happening. I got rid of both of them. Cam be very dangerous.
I do not like it at all. The back door to empty pellets is a disaster. It allows moisture to enter. Pellets get wet and the auger cannot spin. I have replaced the auger motor once. As nd didn’t hours to remove the wet pellets. Worst design someone allowed to be part of this smoker. Tried to use mine yesterday and the auger cannot turn telling me the auger is chocked with wet pellets. Put it in the trash tomorrow and not going to replace it. Terrible terrible. I give it a 2 out of 10
I agree that the design for getting left over pellets out is terrible. I have had it clog up once, but that was my fault. Question: Do you have a cover for the vertical smoker? Seems to help with keeping moisture down.
This pit is horrible. Constant flame outs and fires. Pit Boss customer service is ridiculous, they think customers should endlessly replace parts. They make up weird solutions like “there will be an over the air update” to fix their controller?? So I was waiting for weeks and then they admit I needed a new controller. I’ve been between then and Lowe’s for 6 months now trying to get a return authorized and Pit Boss wont communicate anything to me.
I have the same pit. These pros and cons were spot on! Love my Pit Boss Pro Series Elite Vertical!
Thanks brother. Most appreciated

I'm about to toss mine. It's now every time I use it, it catches fire......
Can you elaborate on how it's catching on fire? Mine just started burning bad after a 17 hour cook yesterday. I'm concerned....

@robhav11 interesting, thanks for the info. I'll be checking mine to see if that's what happened yesterday.
