Pianist, composer, author, and necrologist Jeremy Siskind plays Duke Ellington's classic jazz standard for 10 minutes straight as a solo piano tune. Listen for stride piano, block chords, comping rhythms, and basslines.
NOT MEDIOCRE! That was COOKING.... Well played Sir. I seriously enjoyed that.
Thanks so much, Stuart!!!
Nothing mediocre about that performance... Great playing!
Looking forward to that third book!
the great thing about being a beast like Jeremy is even when you think you're playing mediocre great players are stealing your shit :)
Haha I’ll take it! Thanks much!
Mediocre never came to mind. Instead my thoughts were "musically very interesting in many ways", "a true artist", and "another briilliant and excellent performance by Jeremy!" Thank you! I greatly appreciate all of your playing, teaching, writing and videos!!
You’re very kind, Jerry! Many thanks!
Jerry Carter, I’m with you! Jeremy, absolutely mind blowing how you can come up with all these variations in soloing and chord comping. Just checking out all the cool chords you play on 1 verse will probably take me many days if not a week or two to figure out. Very impressed with how you can improvise all this for 10 minutes and keep each iteration fresh and different. Bravo!
Great teacher always
I've listened to this again until the very end and I still enjoyed it a lot. How about using this light-up keyboard technology in all your videos from now on? I think it is as real plus.
Such a joy to listen to. Thank you, Jeremy!
My pleasure, Javi!
Fascinating!
I'm a beginner currently learning this standard and I thought it was a really interesting video showcasing plenty of fun ideas. Honestly I went in thinking I would get bored after a few minutes but I ended up really enjoying the whole thing, I hope there will be more like this in the future! And by the way, if that was mediocre, what chance does the rest of us have to ever play anything remotely respectable?! 😆😆
Wow, I'm honored! Thanks for watching and I'm happy that it kept you interested! Everyone's on their own journey - no need to compare with anybody other than your own capabilities. (hard to do, I know....)
Thanks a lot
Love these kinds of videos!! Thanks Jeremy , you’re outstanding
I really enjoyed listening! Im moanin in the Mood of this great Joy spring. 😊
Many thanks, Florian! I appreciate you checking it out!
I really like this!
Thanks much, Milton! (Wow, you’re Matthew here too!!)
Thanks! Great improvisation! It is very interesting why did you give this word “mediocre” for the comment section. (By the way I had to check the meaning). I think one of the problems playing an instrument and learn to improvise and being able to play what you actually know the lack of self confidence. Somehow it is interesting to see that despite of the level everyone could have a fight with it. But actually to me is a high value to see your fight. Because it helps to me to understand this difficulty better. ( I am not sure that I was able to formulate my thoughts as clear as I wanted.)
Loved it Jeremy, inspiring as always, far from mediocre
Many thanks! I’m gonna keep practicing!!!
Mediocre (but not!). Thank you! this was great, and so so useful :)
Thanks for watching!
Love this kind of content!
Maybe share your thoughts while improv and add some notes in the video? That would be awesome :)
also thought about it, like adding a couple of interruptions with explaining some interesting choises Jeremy made while improv
@@edfws9842 exactly!
Thanks! It’s probably not coming soon, but you might enjoy a video I did explaining my performance of body and soul. ruclips.net/video/-p81BNi1PIg/видео.html
Yeah. Just yeah.
Please make more tutorial about jazz improvisation piano for beginners...
Hi Jeremy. Did you prepare yourself for the performance or you just knew the melody and chords and spontaneusly improvised?
No prep for this!
I am looking forward to your tutorial about this
I don’t think there’s a tutorial about this coming soon. Enjoy the music and get inspired!
Hi Jeremy. I'm getting into graphic design, as well as starting my own youtube channel. I was wondering if I could do some designs for your thumbnails. If you'd like, I can make some and send them to you. I won't be hurt if you don't use them. Hope this doesn't come off as weird.
Not at all weird - I’d be thrilled! Want to send me an email at jsiskind2@gmail.com and we can discuss how it might work?
I had fun playing along with it in my less than mediocre way😊
Great! I’m happy you played along!

Mediocre huh? You’re kidding Jeremy.
For me, it’s inspirational.
And gives me so much to do … I’m heartened if I think I can also eat an elephant…one bite at a time!
Thank you!
I thought it was the dog’s breakfast, personally…
Far from mediocre. Very nice.
Definitely not mediocre
Chris, you're too kind. Thank you!
The images are not matched with your playing....slower
Latency is tricky to deal with for us piano players. It's close to get the idea.
Mediocre (Great playing, Jeremy!)
Thanks, Bobby! I think your first assessment might have been closer to the make. 😉
Mediocre brilliance, still pretty good in my book. 😂
Wow, far from mediocre Jeremy!
That's very nice, RKneale! Someday, I'll find the groove...
I wish I could emulate your “mediocre”
You’ll get there! Keep at it! Especially if you have 88 fingers!
Nice but had to switch it off, after the first go you werent playing satin doll anymore. Thanks anyway.
mediocre but not! 10 minutes of creative playing! Im new to standards thank you!!!
Haha thanks a lot. I appreciate you watching!
I aspire to be this mediocre.
Haha, thanks, Dave, but aim higher! 😉
Mediocre … seriously? Mediocre is how I feel when I watch you play.
That's very kind....everyone has good days and bad days, right?
Such great playing Jeremy. Anything but mediocre.
Many thanks, John! I hope to hear what you’re working on soon!
Far above mediocre as always.
That’s very kind, Scott! I hope all is well with you in Cleveland!
