I woke up at 1 am today with a distinct image of "hands, sketch, paintbrush" and spent until 2:50 am searching those exacts words in various combinations until I finally found this. It was literally going to keep me up tonight.
Crazy how this memory was virtually nonexistent in my brain. But watching it brought a flood of memories back. Pure nostalgia. It only makes me wonder what other memories I still need to "unlock" from the past.
This has haunted me for decades. I’m 31 and nobody else knew what I was talking about. The noises were what stuck the most though, the sound the paintbrush makes when dipping into the paint pans is iconic in my brain.
This used to tickle my brain as a kid; kinda like asmr. Such a lost memory, but as soon as a saw the thumbnail it all came rushing back. I LOVED this cartoon. :')
See Disney and Nickelodeon? Kids don't need to have bright, flashing, neon colors with loud screaming characters to be entertained. I remember loving these as a kid, and I'm pretty sure it is this kind of stuff that helped me realize that art and music were my two main talents. These shows are the kind of shows that stick with you, whether subconsciously or not, throughout your entire life. :)
The fact that animation was hand-painted in that era gives this that extra bit of authenticity, so warm. The sound of that clear tape is ingrained in my memory too.
The only thing I remembered from this was like the paint and how she dipped the brush into it and how she got red paint on his face, it's so weird how everyone remembers bits and pieces of it
Probably because there was no dialogue, the episodes were short, and we never really payed attention to their names lol I was too young to read anyways.
I love how we all can relate to remembering the sounds haha I swear, that's what stands out the most about this. I'm 20 now and I remember seeing this when I was about 5.
I know you posted this a year ago, I’m 21 and I remember this CLEARLY, but it hired in 1997. It only had new shorts made in 1997, was there reruns of this? I don’t believe my little pre-one year old mind held onto this
Yes!! I didn’t realize how much I loved or paid attention to the sounds when I was a kid but watching this back I was like “ahhh that’s the good stuff” haha
This is what inspired my art as a child! This whole show was art from the colors, the art style, the sound effects, even down the clever names. This is art in such a pure and nostalgic form and makes me so happy to have experienced. But that's just me.
+gingergiggles me too!!!! there was always a sense of familiarity when i ever i was around water color paint lol and i just realised it was this!! haha
This is the DEFINITION of a 90s fever dream! I remember all of this quite clearly... watching it gives me chills. It's such a weird feeling and I'm not sure if it's a good or bad feeling.
This show was cute. I watched it while I was at Children's Hospital... it helped me get through hard times. Gosh, all these shows will have a lot of fun memories I will forever treasure.
This is proof that animation isn’t just for kids. Even adults would appreciate the art style, and even the story behind this beautiful cartoon. I certainly did. 😊
wow it’s amazing how your brain can remember something that you haven’t thought of in years! i vaguely remember this lil series. my childhood has been triggered 😂
I love how I remember watching this and the gardening one, and I remember watching it at my grandparents house, and art and gardening are two of my favorite things in the world. It's even more fascinating because gardening was one of my papa's favorite things to do and art was one of my nana's favorite things to do ❤️🌷🌱🎨🖌️
I WISH I could show you my browser History in my insane 2 hour search (starting at 1 am tonight) looking for this exact video. "Hand sketch paintbrush glasses no face commercial short 90s" and so on. I haven't seen or heard of this video since I saw it in my childhood. WHY has it come back to haunt me!?
Right ! Same here! I don't remember any specific episode because I was only 3 when the show is out but when I saw that picture I was tripping because I've seen that before and then I finally saw someone put where it was from or put the name where it was from
Wow, forgot all about this until now.. if you grew up with me during this generation we are the last of the greatest generations ever! TV was great, everything was great!! man such nostalgia.
I loved this so much. Watching this was usually the last thing I watched before taking a nap when I was little. My favorite one was the one with the plants in the eggs crate because it was so captivating to me and the sounds were so real
This brings me back to the good old days of getting home early from my first grade school and watching some reruns on Nick. Good times, was awesome to be a kid
Instagram brought me here. I remember this show from my childhood. And I just realized their names are Amby and Dexter because of the word ambidextrous....because they are hands. HA, clever.
Seriously this show was like from 1997 and I somehow remember this. I do totally remember seeing this as a kid. I miss those days to be honest when television was good.
I just found this but for some odd reason I faintly remember this from my childhood. I have no idea where I have seen this before. anyone else or just me?
I FINALLY FOUND IT!!!!! I just saw a picture of this on Facebook and a flood of nostalgia rush into my head. I’m sooo happy to have found it on RUclips!!!
That moment where you realize its called "Amby and Dexter" because of the word "Ambidextrous" basically meaning to be able to do things with both hands. And the characters are literally both hands.
Isn't it weird how everyone "faintly" remembers this?
Yesssssss
Here from a link under a meme that said this.
I know, it's a good thing someone made a meme about it.
I woke up at 1 am today with a distinct image of "hands, sketch, paintbrush" and spent until 2:50 am searching those exacts words in various combinations until I finally found this. It was literally going to keep me up tonight.
I honestly thought I dreamed it. It wasn't until accidentally came across it that I realized that it was real.
Crazy how this memory was virtually nonexistent in my brain. But watching it brought a flood of memories back. Pure nostalgia. It only makes me wonder what other memories I still need to "unlock" from the past.
I swear to god
Exact same feeling, the minute I saw this on Facebook I suddenly remember watching it many times. I love reopening the past, it's the best thing ever!
Sydney O'Bier me 2
Hopefully none that include creepy uncles and basements

I think the thing I remember most about this is the sounds. I have no idea why.

Emerl10 HI JULIAN!!!

SAME.

Wow, incredible, lol
Omg , the things you understand when you get older haha
Illuminati confirmed
How did I not realize this sooner... I'M FREAKING AMBIDEXTROUS!!!
So this WASN'T just a feverish false-memory from my childhood...
Good to know.
lmao right so many small things fade away like they weren't even real its a shame
does anyone else remember the one where things kept zooming out and becoming different scenes because that one kept my up at night
+Tomyo was it a Nickelodeon show?
I think so, I don't think I had any other channel back then, the only /slight/ possibility being PBS.
clinton caple
It was a Nick Jr. short that aired between cartoons.
This has haunted me for decades. I’m 31 and nobody else knew what I was talking about. The noises were what stuck the most though, the sound the paintbrush makes when dipping into the paint pans is iconic in my brain.

Amen
People who grew up on black and white TV or with silent films probably would've thought these were too stimulating, too
Times change. So does media
@@VicereineKillbride The most stimulating part would be that it's not black & white. Big whoop, lol.
ya we do this was boring.
@@Magician12345 ah right. Just because you don't like it means it's bad
The fact that animation was hand-painted in that era gives this that extra bit of authenticity, so warm. The sound of that clear tape is ingrained in my memory too.
Ah the tape
Pure bliss
The only thing I remembered from this was like the paint and how she dipped the brush into it and how she got red paint on his face, it's so weird how everyone remembers bits and pieces of it
Maura Creighton yoooo wtfffffff same I’m geeeeking
same here, literally said that as she dipped the brush
Probably because there was no dialogue, the episodes were short, and we never really payed attention to their names lol I was too young to read anyways.
Man, seeing this brings tears to my eyes. Why were we all in such a rush to grow up?
I was reminded of this out of nowhere today. It's a beautiful memory
I remember this but I couldn't tell you where when or even how old I was when I saw this
I was 4 or 5 then lol
I didn't remember until I saw it on facebook a while ago and looked in the comments. I was like "Why does this look familiar?"
@@Artistix119 same. Just saw it yesterday. This has been a thing for awhile
I had never experienced true nostalgia until this day. Thank you for posting this.
I love how we all can relate to remembering the sounds haha I swear, that's what stands out the most about this. I'm 20 now and I remember seeing this when I was about 5.
I am 20 too and it's so weird seeing this again
+oG0TSK1LLZx I also remember watching this around 5 and I'm 20 too this is getting weird 😱
I know you posted this a year ago, I’m 21 and I remember this CLEARLY, but it hired in 1997. It only had new shorts made in 1997, was there reruns of this? I don’t believe my little pre-one year old mind held onto this

This was literally my favourite thing as a kid, I would be glued to the TV watching this. Im so glad I can rewatch it here now!
I only just realized that I subconsciously think bout this every time I see a water color paint palette, jesus, what year did this last air?
+SuperSly93
wtf i was born in 97
and i remember this too wtf
unless my parents recorded it...
+gingergiggles theres no way it was last aired in 97 because i was born in 99 and i remember this
+gingergiggles me too!!!! there was always a sense of familiarity when i ever i was around water color paint lol and i just realised it was this!! haha
I was born in 1997 but I still remember just the very faintness of this. Like, just frames of it I can remember, kinda like Big Comfy Couch.
I remember seeing it in 98 or 99
as i wait to turn 23 in a couple weeks, i stumble upon this. this is the best pre-birthday present i could have ever received
Watching this is probably one of my earliest childhood memories
I show my kids the older cartoons because it stimulates their mind more. These new cartoon are crazy.
ALL I REMEMBERED FROM THIS WAS THE BRUSH GOING IN THE PAINT OMFF AND I NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT THIS BEING FINDABLE ON RUclips
Wowwwwwww this lived in the deepest part of my brain! I remember this was my favorite one 🥹🥹🥹 thank you for unlocking this memory in 2024
I think this might be my favorite Amby & Dexter short even when I was a little girl because I've always enjoyed painting and drawing
This is the DEFINITION of a 90s fever dream!
I remember all of this quite clearly... watching it gives me chills. It's such a weird feeling and I'm not sure if it's a good or bad feeling.
For some reason I remember the noises and the music. And I remember the weird animations for their movements. Wow. This was so strange.
fr
I just remember all the sounds! This was so calming
I wonder if they'll come a time when no one can remember this. Glad some of us can still have our memories tickled.
Amby and Dexter like ambidextrous?
Yep
Yeah because they are the "guys" hands, and the guys hands, he is using both to draw!
The cleverness is a lot to take in as a kid. This pun went way over our heads. I didn't realize this joke until I was 10. Lol!
Shinobi_17 same.. now don't I feel out of the loop
Anthony Jackson 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
Wow, I remember this so clearly. I'm turning 19 and I can't believe I remember my three years of age.
Gives me the good stress free feelings I had when I was a kid. I miss it.
A tsunami of nostalgia has just hit me
Nostalgia hit me so hard right now. I don't know how to deal with all these early childhood memories haha.
This makes me sad about the world :(. I want the old days back.
The animation is so dream like, no wonder I wasn’t sure it actually existed.
The sounds stick out the most to me and brings back the most memories. I'm 21 years old and still remember this as if I watched it yesterday

This has impacted me in ways I haven’t fully been able to understand or realize yet. But one thing is for certain it will never escape my mind
I loved all the noises. Child ASMR for me. I would feel so good hearing those scratching noises and water it just made me feel so good.
I'm 18 and I still get excited watching this

When she first paints his face with the brush. 25 yrs old and that unlocked part of my brain I didn’t know existed🤯🤯
This was the best thing ever as a child, and watching it now puts me in such a good place.
This brings me back to the good old days of getting home early from my first grade school and watching some reruns on Nick. Good times, was awesome to be a kid
I remember seeing this on Nickelodeon during the commercials for Maggie and the Ferocious Beast
I remembered watching this before blues clues came on when I was little.....feels like only yesterday.

Now THIS is what got me interested in animation and art as a kid!! I remember being transfixed by the fluid animation, ah this brings back so much!!!
I forgot all about this, but now that I'm seeing it, it's such a strong memory. I always loved this short.

These two little guys had a place in the back of my brain for the last 15+ years. Now I finally have proven their existence.
My childhood. I finally found it.

Why are these so relaxing to watch? 😂 god I miss the simplicity of childhood
I was maybe 2 or 3 when this was on nick jr and this is stirring memories I didn’t even know I had
Not gonna lie, literally typed in "two small people fighting over art" and this popped up. Glad to see this isn't a figment of my mind.
The sound effects are what brings back the memories for me.
Holy shit I get the title now! Amby & Dexter = ambidextrous.
Oh my god
bruh 😮
Good shit.
Oooooooooooo
I remember watching this at a very young age probably about 2-3 crazy how I remember it
Love that the form of her body becomes a hand.
Out of these shorts, this one is my all time favorite
