    Hi Jamieson. I love your videos. Thank you so much for sharing your ideas and techniques. I bought the same slant cabber a couple of years ago direct from Hi-Tech and shipped over to UK. I think it is brilliant and even with shipping costs and import tax, it was very reasonably priced. My problem with it (and I would imagine I would have the same problem with any cabber) is that I keep dropping the thing I am trying to grind. I use it for jewellery so that I have straight sides which I then fire polish, but I spend a lot of time retrieving the glass from the water reservoir. I have also tried to use it for grinding drop vases, but again I don't seem to be able to hold the vase securely. I asked Hi-Tech about this and they suggested special (neoprene??) gloves or using wax sticks (like they use in lapidary). I wondered if you had any views. Thanks again for your brilliant videos.

      I got the order and will unbox it later this week. I still have to get the water source taken care of. I use distilled water in my grinder and in my Taurus - I am thinking that I will continue with it on the grinder. I have high levels of iron in my well water and it helps keep things cleaner.I hope you see your credit for my sale soon@@@JamaisonSchuler

    • @JamaisonSchuler
      @JamaisonSchuler  7 месяцев назад +1

      I just take it outside every now and then and blast it with a hose to rinse out the trough, be careful not to get water inside where the motor would be

    Hi Jamison! I love your work and would like to return to my kiln soon. Can you tell me the benefits of a slant lab grinder vs. a flat lab grinder? Is there a different use for each one? Thank you!

    • @JamaisonSchuler
      @JamaisonSchuler  2 года назад +1

      I honestly don’t know fully what the advantage would be one way or the other, the slant one is just the one that my local glass supplier happened to have so that’s the one I bought! In my opinion, it did look easier to modify the way that I did it.

    Your video comes at the perfect time for me: so much so, I wonder if Google "paired" us...lol! Thank you so much for this. I love your videos. I like this piece of equipment but now I'm hesitant that Hi Tech is "sponsoring" this vid. I hate that, because if it's GREAT it should speak for itself. Right?

    • @JamaisonSchuler
      @JamaisonSchuler  3 года назад

      If Hi-Tech gave me some massive discount or sent me the unit “free” if I did a video, then that would be sponsored. I paid full price and bought this on my own after looking at it more than a year ago. As I said in the video, I only learned about the affiliate program AFTER I already shot my unboxing video. (And since I’m about to do my own modification to the unit, I don’t think they’ll be very happy with me. 😂)

  • @galevarland4702
    @galevarland4702 3 года назад +1

    What is the reasoning for the different speeds? I assume they are used for different glass (fused vs “virgin”)
    Or maybe different COEs?

    • @JamaisonSchuler
      @JamaisonSchuler  3 года назад

      This is a good question... I’ll explore but my guess is that a lower speed is sufficient the finer the diamond grit you use? Once the material has been removed and you just want to continue to refine/polish, maybe you can go slower??

  • @melissamiszkiewicz8237
    @melissamiszkiewicz8237 Год назад

    I really like this but I don't see how I can polish a bowl or plate on it. Any ideas?

    • @JamaisonSchuler
      @JamaisonSchuler  Год назад +1

      There is a polishing wheel… I’ve used it to polish a paperweight I made. It certainly isn’t as easy as a large lap wheel, but I think there’s some possibility. For me, it’s a workable solution for now.
