Once of the greatest things about Messi is that he doesn’t dive. He is one of the most honest, fair and sportsmanlike players in the world. Him and Miroslav Klose. It’s sad that they’re such a rare breed.
Some really strange decisions by the referees here. I think you do have to accept that refs can’t get it right every single time, it’s a tough job. But there are so many bad calls here - I think the two worst ones might be the penalties that were not given. They were some of the clearest penalties I’ve ever seen.

It was a 50/50 ball in the air that went off a player on the other side. The offside still exists. He gained an advantage by being in an offside position. If the player on the opposing side would have settled it, then passed it to Messi, different story.
Played soccer for 28 years, and am also a certified ref for 20 years. It's too gray of an area to make the decision. You've just summed up why he's offside in your statement. The kick came from FCB and hit a defending player. Messi was in an offside position which gave him an advantage. Any ref is going to call that offside. Learn the rules yourself and piss off.
Offside is reset at every touch of the ball by the offense, and every intentionally directed touch by the defense. That is, if you are offside, the ball is shot, hits a defender and bounces to you, you are still offside, even if the defender is the goalie and in front of you. Further, even if the defender intentionally touches it, say by leaping up to attempt to head it, you will still remain offside unless his touch is determined to be a CONTROLLED one.

The ball clearly went off number 20 and there was no attempt at clearing. The fact is he gained advantage by being in an offside position. He made it an easy call.

Once I got a yellow card for being subbed in in a match. I live in a country where football's knowledge is a rare thing, so the referees don't know that much.
I got a yellow card after being booted in the head. Ref said for the play to go on and I complained to him that I got booted in the head and asked for a penalty. He said I had no proof of it even though the boot cut my head and it was bleeding. All good though as I proceeded to score from the half way line to win the league for us 😀
