    I immediately "regret" every tattoo I get as soon as it's done. I have a total freak out like "dear gawd what have I done!" This happens every time, even though I am heavily covered. When they heal I am fine and usually in love.

      Shana Abell when I got my whole bicep tattooed I looked in mirror when I got home and immediately thought 'omg what have I done' because it was the biggest tattoo I've ever had. For every tattoo I slightly freak out after but I absolutely love my tattoos.

      I do the same thing! with my most recent I didn't immediately, but that night when I was laying in bed I lost my shit because I thought I hated it. My partner reminded me that I can't judge my piece on just the lines, so I'm looking guard to being totally done with all my sessions so I can fall in love all over again with the art

    tattoo artist here. Here's one question that I get a lot. "Do I have to pay the full amount on the first day?"
    Answer: No.
    Large tattoos can be broken up in sessions. You can get the outline work in one session and the shading in another, or several. Depending on how big the piece is. You don't have to sit the a huge tattoo in none sitting or pay $1,000+ on the first day.
    Most shops will charge you based on how many hours you wanna put in.
    Example: Big dragon tattoo.
    Once the outline is done, you can set up the next session and put in 3 hrs of work. The next session you can put 5 hrs of work, etc. So don't let the high prices or the size of a tattoo scare you.

    I'm bipolar and I got my second piercings on a manic state. I was all hyper and went and got two conch piercings after looking for cool piercings the day before, and even if I had only gotten one piercing before, I just got two at the same time on the same ear because why not? A couple of days later I regretted it so much, but then I started coming to terms with them. They were actually solid evidence that helped me get diagnosed, and I started loving them little by little, and now I absolutely love them!
    My advice would be to give the mod a second chance, maybe you'll end up liking it.

    I love that you guys don't tip. I hate tipping, because I don't have a lot of money already and I just wish it'd be included in the price. It makes me so anxious because I feel like if I don't give enough they will be irritated with me.

    • @SecretAgentNein
      @SecretAgentNein 7 лет назад +13

      I'm Swedish and I too love that we don't tip. We know exactly how much something is going to cost us and there usually aren't any surprise costs involved. Really helps with your planning when you're on a tight budget.
      I've heard that in the US in some places they don't even include taxes in the price on the price tags of items. That would freak me out!

    • @inspiration10ongles
      @inspiration10ongles 5 лет назад +4

      @@SecretAgentNein Tax prices are not written on anything here in Canada either, it's frustrating to have to do the math when buying something (or paying a tattoo artist.)

    You're never too old to get a tattoo. I just got my first Tattoo at 33. I made a bet with my Mum. If she got a tattoo I would too. She was diagnosed with lung cancer in July, and received 3 small dots to use as a guide for Radiation therapy. So the weekend after she had them done, I had her handwriting "Remember when..." put on my left wrist. The guy who did the tattoo had just come back to work after his own cancer battle, so it was a special moment. Mum was thrilled, and laughed calling me cheeky. She passed away on the 10th of September. I am so glad she saw my effort to honor her. I'll have a part of her with me for the rest of my life. No regrets.

    In Australia we don't tip. About a year ago when an international tattoo artist came to do a guest spot here, I was lucky enough for her to say yes to my idea and she tattooed me. The experience was pretty blah - she was unfriendly and snapped at me a few times when I accidentally twitched. At the end of it, I was really happy to get out of there to be honest. I paid her what she had asked and later that night, was checking Facebook and noticed she had written a post about 'disrespectful clients who don't tip, brings snacks or drinks for their tattoo artist, etc.' I've had other international tattoo artists tattoo me with absolutely no problem in regards to tipping - they quote a price and I pay.

    I'm so glad you talked about tipping. Denmark isn't really a "tipping country" either, so I always felt insecure about whether or not to tip, since all American RUclipsrs makes a point out of letting you know that you HAVE to tip your artist.

    • @SquishyTheVampire
      @SquishyTheVampire 7 месяцев назад

      In America, wages are actual trash. We barely make enough to live comfortably. Tipping not only says "hey you did an amazing job!" But it also helps the artist personally.

    I honestly love this video because it really highlights how knowledgeable you are about body modifications. You were also super mature throughout the video which I greatly appreciate because you really sound like you know what you're talking about and the way in which you talk is so helpful and noncondescending (is that a word?? i don't know) (and i hope you don't take me wrong- i'm not saying i didn't expect you to be condescending in any way whatsoever, but your tone was super helpful and you genuinely sound like you want to help people out and really makes me excited to get tattoos!) I just feel like when it comes to body modifications you are one of the best youtubers to go to because you're not intimidating in any way and you're super duper nice and sweet and adorable :') thank you so much for all of your videos! :^)

    The biggest problem with body mod related questions is that the answer to most of them is "It depends..." xD but you did a great job here (:
    When I got my septum pierced, I hated it so much. I really wanted it but then I stood in front of my mirror and cried because I spent a lot of money on this f*cking ugky ring in my nose. But I decided to keep it at least until it healed and after I changed the ring I liked it so much better. It's been 2 or 3 years now and I love it so much! So don't give up when you don't like some new modifications. Take a little time and maybe you will grow to like them (:

    I pass out from tattoos, blood tests, all that kind of thing. It's not pain, or fear, it's my brain's 'fight or flight' response. A doctor explained it to me once while I was getting a biopsy done - my body perceives a threat, and then sends all my blood into my legs so that I can run away. If I am lying down I am OK, but if not, there isn't enough blood to run my brain - hence, passing out. You can't actually pick up a pulse in my wrist when it happens :P The brain and body are weird-ass things :D

    Tipping advice: if standard tips for a waitress is 15%, tip a tattoo artist more than that.
    I typically go for 20%, if it's a cheaper tattoo I might tip 30%. For reference, I'm in the US.

    • @jacobmack821
      @jacobmack821 6 лет назад +31

      why would you tip a tattoo artist more then a waitress they are getting all the money you pay them for the tattoo a waitress is probably making 2.50 and hour??

    • @emilycamille7254
      @emilycamille7254 6 лет назад +5

      Jacob Mack yeah but they spend the money on ink and stuff for their equipment, tipping gives them a little extra to save up or even to use for bills. Plus if an artist doesn't own the place they work for they usually have to rent out their space which is pricey. You also never know how much actually goes to the artist and how much goes to the shop itself

    • @emilycamille7254
      @emilycamille7254 6 лет назад +4

      Liza Soliman so if you had six sessions to finish a tattoo, do you tip during each session or tip the full amount depending on what it would all cost together at the end?

      I have a little sunflower tattoo that's green/ white/ yellow/ brown, and my freckles don't show through it (although it's not in a freckly spot, so there aren't many to begin with). I actually wonder if the brown and yellow parts blend the freckles into them somehow, lol. Also, I live in FL and hate the heat, so I'm indoors most of the year, so my freckles have gotten lighter too. The owl sounds really cute. I think, if anything, it might distract from any freckles that show through?

    • @TheFreeElf
      @TheFreeElf 8 лет назад +2

      Thanks for all the answers! :) Now I know that it might show through. But maybe I won't bother about it, it might even look good... Maybe I will get it on the inside of my arm instead, no freckles there. I have some time to decide while saving up money. :)

    Katrin ,
    you answered the questions brilliantly,
    this is just to reinforce the correctness ,
    I am an aspiring artist- still in my apprentice stages ( self limiting)
    age for tattoo, none - as long as you are of legal age , and are still breathing
    bleeding is a good question, - she does give a good answer, as an artist we are dealing with capillary bleeding which can be different in each individual, i like to best describe the pain/bleeding very similar to a moderate abrasion or scrape , some lymphocytes leukocytes and some mild bleeding.
    Payments are varied as the artist and tattooist , some charge by the hour, by piece, by %of body - the whole tipping is that some professionals like beauticians rent or lease their space hence a portion of price is given to the shop owner/proprietor - and is assumed that the gratuity for a outstanding job.
    bad tattoo-tattoo mistakes, etc. we are human, for a proficient artist YOU will never KNOW where the mistakes are- the major mistakes ie "no regerts" or horrendous colour work ruin a reputation, The reputable artist will work with you for the reputation is something that propels the Artist forward

    Stretched ears can depend SOO much of the person. I had a stretch in one earlobe only, and it was 16mm. I read up a lot on the internet before starting to reduce. There were three major things people mentioned on how likely you are to have your ear back to normal:
    1. How fast you stretched it, aka, how much you stretched at once, because stretching a lot at once can cause damage that won't heal. So if you experienced scarring, it is less likely to return to how it used to be.
    2. How long it has been since you stopped stretching, aka how long your lobe has been allowed to heal. A completely healed stretch is less likely to return to normal.
    and 3. simply, how big you stretched it. People said that usually after 5mm your ear starts to be much less liekly to return to normal.
    There's also things that you can do to make it more likely to heal, like using moisturizing oils and massaging them in after warm showers/sauna.
    My experience is that I was very lucky - my ear did not return to fully normal, but the hole is small enough that I can wear earrings that have a wide base with a wide backing. I went from 16mm to about 2-3mm, which I am very happy with.
    Also, in case of a very big stretch, you can always get it fixed with surgery.

    I used to apprentice and work as a manager in a tattoo shop, so I thought I'd just leave a little tidbit here about passing out.
    I'm not a doctor either, but what I was told basically happens is that tattoos and piercings cause trauma. Somehow, whether it's your body going into hyper wtf drive or something else, this makes your body become somewhat temporarily diabetic and needs sugar. I know it's a weird explanation, but this is why the artist I worked for kept sugar tabs and candy on hand. It depends on the person. I tend to get woozy with piercings but not at all with tattoos. Everyone is different.
    Always, ALWAYS, eat before your appointment. Preferably carbs like a burger or pizza. This will lower your chance of passing out or feeling sick.

    I have quite a few tattoos and even when i walk into a new shop they're typically covered. I gotten a lot of condescending comments from artists "making sure i can handle it" or that just because my tattoos aren't all over my face means im not "tattooed". I got one comment from a guy who had seen me get one tattoo from an artist i love that opened up his own shop. But i was back at this other shop for my friend to get tattooed by the guy who made this comment while i was there, he's only seen me get one tattoo but i have many and they were covered and i was kinda giving advice to my friend and he said to me "oh you think now that you've gotten one tattoo that your all tatted up now" i laughed it off but i know now to never see him which is a shame because he does really great art. There are people that are assholes out there and some of them have tattoos sometimes but just because you don't look like them doesn't make you wrong it makes them wrong.

    • @racheleknecht3229
      @racheleknecht3229 7 лет назад +1

      David Hume I think you're the one with the low self esteem to feel the need to put down other people to feel better about yourself. While art may be meaningless to you it could mean so much to other people. I work out, I read (a lot), I have a relationship, I have a full time job. I'm not sure why you think anybody cares about how you feel about them buying tattoos. As for being emotionally weak personally I have PTSD so that may qualify me as emotionally weak. I'm not sure how you are using the term low class, as in little money or whatever. But even by that logic it doesn't really make sense, I won't say I'm rich but I've set up a life for myself to live very comfortably and happily. And lastly there are stupid people that get tattoos but that doesn't mean everyone who gets them is stupid. I don't get tattoos to feel better about myself but even if I did why would that be a problem? People do things everyday to make themselves feel better. There's nothing wrong with that as long as I'm not hurting anybody else. In any case I'm sorry you feel that way and I wish nothing but the best for you.

    hi there im a tattoo artist myself and wanted to say to things. how long white or bright colours in general stay depends heavily on the ink used and the aftercare in the first place. and the second is you should not bleed at all or just on some little spots. reason is that you get the ink in the skin and blood is underneath it. so if you bleed a lot your tattoo artist goes to deep often and thats no good sign at all. little thing to rimind if u take painkillers in advance it makes your blood more liquid and bleeding will be more extreme. same thing applies for alcohol

      Babette Porceddu depends on what kind of scar and the thickness; a lot of thick or deep scars have excess collagen which makes it difficult to retain the ink. If the scar isnt super bad though, you should be fine

    If you really want to downsize the gauge size... stretch it up one to “break the healed seal” then start going down... the only way to downsize fast is by breaking it out of of it’s comforted size I only went from an inch to a 00g by doing this and have done it 3 times in my whole life. Stretch up then down for good natural downsizing.

    I got a white ink tattoo on the inside of my finger back in February. My tattoo artist was hesitant to do it, but said he would redo it in another color once it healed if I didn't like it. I have pretty fair skin, so the ink ended up staying 😁 it is more skin colored than a vibrant white color, so the white color will only be visible on the first few days. I went back a month after to get it touched up in white, because the artist couldn't see the stencil with the white ink after my finger started bleeding from the process. My white ink tattoo looks more like a scar on top of the skin, rather than a very defined tattoo. Hope this helps anyone debating white ink tattoos 😋

I'm kind of upset about it, but it's on my wrist so if my hand is pointing down it looks right side up and you can't tell that he messed it up so I don't regret it as much now as I did when I walked out of the shop.
