Gotta love how easy letterbomb is, before it took much longer and you needed an actual game like Lego Indiana jones or super smash brawl, they found exploits within the game/save file and that’s how you installed homebrew.

Note: older units (the original 2006 units, RVL-001) allow BootMii to be installed as boot2. Newer ones with the horizontal faceplate writing (RVL-101) have it patched to prevent tampering.
White original Wiis produced after 2008 also can't install boot2, even if they look like the 2006 ones, the installer will say of you can or can't install it
I did this several years ago. The homebrew channel is pretty cool (not 100% sure which exploit i used though as it was so long ago). Its cool to see these videos nowadays for older consoles

guys if you can’t format your drive to fat32, use wii backup manager to do it, open wii backup manager go to drive one select the letter of the drive you’re using, at the very top of the program there should be a tools option and hit format drives, it should pop up with a prompt letting you choose which drive you want to format, make sure you format the sd card or usb drive to fat32 and not your c drive which is the main drive as it deletes everything on the drive.
I wouldn't say naive, it's just a really tough game system to sell. It's one of the best selling consoles ever made, everyone and their grandma had one for Wii Sports back in the day. In other words, most people have one or know someone who has one, so they're one of those consoles that will sit at the thrift store the longest or go through multiple yard sales. Give it another 10-15ish years and they'll be a lot less common, if it follows the trend that the PS2 did. Good hunting! 😁👍
It’s crazy how far Wii homebrewing has come. It came from finding an exploit in The Legend Of Zelda Twilight Princess, to fully modding your Wii in about 2 minutes.
@@doitallYT agreed, I have 6 Wiis, 5 Wii Us, and 7 Switches. I modded 3 Switches for my kids and myself with 164 games on each one. I have 4 original XAW switch releases new sealed that I'm saving unmodded. I actually enjoy modding more than playing the actual games!

@@doitallYT I paid between $50-200 for each one I have. I have been lucky, every one came with its mint box. I have them stored in a storage crate. Always looking for more! I use a 512gb micro card in each Switch, let's me put the 164 games with a little room to spare. I keep my Wii/GC, Wii U, and all the Switch games library on folders on a 6 TB backup drive...move back and forth with whatever I want on the console... Good luck in your modding!
Around like 2007ish, I modded the original Xbox with a bigger hard drive and loaded it with emulators for the classics and it also loaded xbox/PlayStation games. It wasn't a hard mod but soldering was required. Years later, like 5 years ago I got really sick and a friend mailed me his old Wii and a bunch of accessories. I had most of what I needed to mod it and use a 512gb laptop hdd as an external hard drive that gets powered by the Wii's USB. It is amazing, and just as easy as this video showa it to be. Its really easy! Found a great place to get all the Wii and gamecube games and started to fill up the drive. There is even a modded version of Mario Kart Wii that still has online working, with tons of new tracks and stuff. New super Mario Wii has a few modded versions with new levels too.
Make sure to double check the formatting on the SD card, using a tool like Rufus you can set it up as MBR FAT32 without much hassle. Then, give it a minute to show up and you'll be off to the races 😎👍
I do believe if you just do a base format for the sd card it might load some things slower, so increase the allocation size to get faster load times on games on the sd card. At least that's what worked for me.
I remember doing this a long time ago. I think the first ones couldn't read blue ray or DVD's or whatever there was also this chip you could get for the disk drive and then It can play those disks. I forget what all other homebrew goodies on it but it was pretty slick. I think I did it so I can cheat games or something I forget.

Fun fact about Smash bros modding on Wii: Most mods won't work on the Europe versions of the console. So you will need a USA variant for those. Trust me, I have tried. It only took me multiple weeks/months, a few SD cards and the trouble of getting myself a USA Wii which gladly came with Smash Bros Brawl.
my wii was actually modded! it doesn't work anymore (as I have nothing except the console itsself. lol.) but I put the SD card into a PC of mine and it had a mod installed onto it! really cool!
When I did this like 5 years ago I had to change a number to I think 0 in the files to even get it to work the only video I could find is from the most popular mariokart channel TWD
This mod is nearly a necessity now with the disc drives failing on the Wii. All but one of my Wii's have a bad drive so modding and running games off their backups is the best way to go.
I literally only have 4 Wii game CDs being the 2 resident evil Chronicles, Mad World and the Wii crap sports game and im going to do this shit just for the fun of hacking Bro xD

Letter Bomb is really the easiest Method, and a Modded Wii can do so much more, really Worth it
One thing to note is that you should make sure the date on your Wii is correct or the Letterbomb isn’t going to appear.

You can flash a wii using a dns. Saw it used on a mjd video.
Important to note you can only format SD cards under 32gb’s to fat32

Fat32 can’t use 4gb or larger files...SD cards can be larger capacity but not the files you are trying to put on your as card.

Honestly no because there's also an Uninstaller on the homebrew channel so if u wanted just Uninstall and voila u got a stock wii
