It's hardcore to see the Comengs in action still. Lot's of memories of when they used run the 3 car sets in the 80's and 90's late at night with only the first carriage with lights on doors opening. plenty of mischief back then. Great video!

Yeah, I forgot about that. When I carried the staff down to the driver, the first time I saw it I thought that was a bit strange at the time.

Nice Video. Good to see an old friend again still running for the moment. I remember the day of the first run for the Comeng series. It had orange lines on the side with the old Vicrail logo didn’t seem that much time that it changed to the Met green as we did with our uniforms. This was the first time we ever had an air-conditioned train in service. You could smell the newness and from memory the carpet was a brown colour that looked really nice, nothing like something brand new and so clean. Watching the trains come and go you had to wait a while to see another of the new Comeng trains as we only had one for the line and it had to go to Melbourne and back. The Hitachi Trains were nice when they came out too, really comfortable, but you were locked in a metal train and in summertime it was sooo hot for the passengers. At least you could open the windows.
Could you imagine passengers today siting in a non-air-condition train day in day out during the summer. Freezing in the cold with no heating. They did that for decades.
Then the new trains came out with heating and cooling. With the red swing doors train you had to shut the door but with the Tait train and Harris trains everybody always left the doors open, no closing doors in those days. Once a gentleman went to get off the train thinking he was at the station, it was thick fog, but he was not at a station, as the train stopped at a signal, he jumped off a Bridge. That can never happen again now thank goodness.
