I remember when the real Black Flag played my hometown in 85'. The university put on the outdoor show as some kind of spring fling event. They figured since it was punk rock that only a couple hundred college students would attend. When at least a couple thousand skate punks, gutter punks, drunks, acid burnouts, street trash, goths, teenage rejects, and skinheads converged on the east lawn of the student union a near riot ensued. Traffic on every nearby street was blocked, and the cops shut down the show. Needless to say, that was the last punk show the college sponsored on their pristine campus. 😂
I'd say 350lbs at least. At the time I recorded this show, I was around 200lbs myself and he was way bigger than me. Which is fine, but maybe don't try to crowdsurf if you're that big and the venue is packed with old guys and teens 😅
this was funny as fuck i was literally visiting colorado and went to this show and the same guy like 2 songs before jumped on me and grabbed my shirt and intentionally ripped it, then he jumped on me again i tried to rip his shirt when mike was asking for him so i helped pull his ass over to him lmaooo fuck that guy
No...I was THERE for the good times in the late 70's/late 80's. THAT was fun. To see Black Flag's worst vocalist (by far!) and Ginn playing everything with less speed, less intensity, less power, and less conviction, is a lot of things. But FUN isn't one of them.
I'll be honest with you, I saw a 2013 set of the band Flag, which is basically all the other members of Black Flag minus Greg Ginn, and those guys rocked harder and sounded better than Ginn's current iteration of Black Flag. Long for the old days of Black Flag (minus Henry Garfield).

I get drunk crowd surfing can be annoying, but it would take a lot more then that to bother me, i got elbowed in the head at a gwar show, got punched in the back of the head at circle jerks, and got bruised on my ribs at that show too, and was still jumping around like a monkey in the front, at both shows, idk, to me this doesn’t seem that bad, but, I wasn’t there🤷♂️

Crowd surfing was banned by the venue at the threat of the band losing their insurance. The guy was crazy drunk, overweight, and acting like he wanted to get dropped. Hed pissed off most of the crowd already, hence everyone cheering when he got rejected

Homie looked straight down at my buddy and just reared back and basically stomped on his nose. No reason, just a crowd surfer being a dick. Not everyone is there to just have fun. Some people genuinely want to hurt others.

I've ran into a lot of ams/ pros in those days and they've always been cool, the ones who weren't like Greco or a few others kinda just kept to themselves- but usually someone else in their crew would be cool with us so it was fine. So we're skating and we see him and one of my friends was like "oh shit its Mike V" and like a little bitch - in a very whiney voice he goes "Yes its me Mike V, everyone just stop what you're doing and interrupt what I'm doing because I'm Mike fucking V. NO you can;'t have my board, NO you can't have my autograph, I'm just here to skate. GOT THAT?" We kinda just gave him an "alright bro" and kept it moving- but because of that incident i couldn't fucking stand his ass
I wimped out speaking to him at Tampa pro...he was looking at me from the side thinking I was going to talk to him because I was listening to his conversation with another person... and he just kind of waited afterwards and I walked away, not knowing what to say...
Hey! That was Jello Biafra! Mike is my least favorite among all the vocalists Black Flag has had through the years, but he's still _very_ good. In 2020 I wasn't impressed, but in 2023 after seeing this band 3 times this year, I realize Mike kicks ass on stage. Just kidding about Jello, but you surely knew that.

Crowd surfing is banned at this venue because they don't have a safe way for staff to get to you if you fall, or a way to get set down safely because there is no front barrier. The band could have lost money on the night breaching contract by letting people. And guess what? They still did. There were people crowd surfing a lot before this and they looked the other way on it. It was only when it got dangerous that Mike interceded.

Mike is my least favorite among all the vocalists Black Flag has had through the years, but he's still _very_ good. In 2020 I wasn't impressed, but in 2023 after seeing this band 3 times this year, I realize Mike kicks ass on stage.

The dude he kicked out was being a drunk menace the whole set and pissed off most of the front few rows and the pit. Crowd surfing is banned at this venue because they don't have a safe way for staff to get to you if you fall, or a way to get set down safely because there is no front barrier. The band could have lost money on the night breaching contract by letting people. And guess what? They still did. There were people crowd surfing a lot before this and they looked the other way on it. It was only when it got dangerous that Mike interceded.

Drunk dude having fun but the softies at front row couldn't handle it. The most boring, disappointing, sober concert I went to last year was Black Flag, just dudes tapping their feet and filming. I hope Descendents + Circle Jerks is different this year.
