    I really like the greenhouse setup. May i ask what is the function of having the greenhouse trees in the large pots with the base cut out? Does this prevent the roots from growing fully into the native soil ? Thanks

    When is best time to up pot a new tree?

      With the small pots like these I wait until roots start growing out the holes in the bottom of the pot. Then I wait about 2 more weeks and it's time. Plant in as large as a pot you can handle (10+ gallons) or inground. Full sun 🌞 is best 8+ hours!

      We have been active and offering cuttings over the last month. However my final listing for 2024 was this past Sunday. I’ve finished winterizing the nursery and I’m preparing for my own winter break. We will be back in March 2025!

    What size are those pots in your garden? Tq.
    Are they 15, 20 or 30 litre what diameter. I have ordered some 20 litre, pots yesterday. I have 3 more of 30 litre pots. M wondering whether those are 15 litre pots. Hope to hear from you soon. Today will do second pincing of the fig tree, due to such hot weather, there’re tiny branches off the pinched spots, even branches coming out of the main stem. I did not have a primary stem, as I was going to turn the tree into a bonsai, so I have 2 perpendicular branches from both sides whilst I cut off the middle primary stem. Have watched how to straighten a branch for main stem video. I am trying to downsize the patio garden. I have a fig, cherry, nectarine tree. A bay tree, raspberries, blueberries and strawberries, plus herbs. I planted cucumbers this year on my nectarine pot, because of snow after it flowers, only 2 fruits on it. Basically my object is to downsize every plant to either 30 litre, 20 or 15. I will plant some cucumbers separately next year.

      Oh ya, my fig fruit is very sweet/honey like and white inside/green/golden outside. Have no idea what it’s called.

      In the part 1 training video the small tree is in a 4x12 inch tree pot. I think they hold about 1 gallon. The pots inside the Fig House are 50 gallon barrels half buried in the ground with the bottoms cut off.

      Do you know of a fig that’s whitish instead of the normal red or brown dark colours? So have pinched off everything today, took some leaves off too. Expose the fruits to sunshine, I really am hoping they would ripen. It started fruits very late. Anyways if anyone have any idea of a fig with white flesh greenish golden when ripe, Green before ripening. Shape slightly oblong.@@TravelingGardeners

      The small pots in the training part 1 video are 4"x12". They only hold a little less than 1 gallon. Those pots are only for starting and shipping my trees. The larger containers inside the Fig House are 50 gallon barrels with the bottoms cut off. They work well as individual raised beds for inground fig trees. When considering the pot size for fig trees remember they are trees. They will do best in the largest pot you can provide. I always tell my customers to use the biggest pot they can manage. Keep in mind, depending on your growing zone you may have to provide winter protection. So twice a year you may have to move the pot inside a shed or unheated garage for best results during the dormancy period. Besides that drawback the benefits far outweigh the extra effort.

    Wouldn't have been better to air layer it above the first bend on the straight part? Then you would not have to do any of this.

    • @TravelingGardeners
      @TravelingGardeners  6 месяцев назад

      @@johnplatt4848 you absolutely could do that. However if you do not need additional trees that would be a waste of energy and your limited time during the growing season. An air layer will set this particular tree back about 8 weeks or more. But your correct, you could produce another tree. It really depends on your goals.
