Arin, your “turner” is called a spatula. The rubber knife-shaped thing you use for mixing is called a _rubber spatula._
He's from Florida, so I think it's a regional thing. And honestly, calling it a turner does make more sense.

The reason it's called a 'rubber spatula' is because it is a straight edge, flat utensil that's made of rubber. It's really a pancake turner, FYI. There are spatulas (what you use to frost cakes with), and rubber spatulas (which you use to scrape bowls clean and stir cake mix, etc.).
Also: colanders are what you would normally use to drain pasta, strainers have solid edges and a mesh bottom.
Also also: eggplants are named after the white variety, which look like eggs growing on a plant when they are young.

Spatulas are what you use to frost cakes, and rubber spatulas are what you use to mix batter and scrape bowls out.
@@Jinka7 A spatula was a flat multi purpose kitchen tool that over time had specialized versions develop, such as the rubber scrapping spatula or the turner/ flipper spatula. Spatula was the original name for both of these tools.
