American auto design took a step nose dive after the Oil Crisis of 1973 forced Detroit to "economize" and produce slightly more fuel-efficient "economy autos" that met new regulatory standards. The result? Ugly lemons that lacked the power, durability, ride quality, comfort, and sleek aesthetic of cars from the 1950s and '60s.The auto industry hasn't recovered since its '70s nadir, IMO!

Funny running into you here on youtube, Peter. Oh yes, Best & Co. Back in the late 60's, my mother and sister just missed seeing Jackie O and Caroline in the children's clothing department at Best's. The saleswoman told them Jackie and Caroline had been in buying clothes for Caroline just a few minutes earlier. Do you remember Leslie Gore who had a big hit with the song. It's My Party in the mid 60s. In the late 60s, when Leslie was at Sarah Lawrence College, she MC'd a fashion show in Best's junior department. All the models were ballerinas from the Joffrey Ballet. I just happened to be there shopping and watched the show. Keep sewing -- nancy2001.

As the period between the Twin Towers' construction and horrible demise was just over a generation, it is likely some of those blue collars lived long enough to witness, on TV or with their own eyes, the building that they put their blood, sweat, and tears into come suddenly crashing down to the streets of lower Manhattan after less than an hour of being intentionally struck by aircraft. Talk about an awful experience!!!
