- The year was 2001; Destiny’s Child released the album Survivor with worldwide hits Independent Women, Survivor and Bootylicious. It was also the year Beyoncé Knowles, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams appeared on the May cover of Rolling Stone.
In the latest episode of ‘Behind The Rolling Stone Cover’, sponsored by Shure, Rolling Stone AU/NZ Editor-in-Chief Poppy Reid sat down with Williams to hear her feelings on that cover over 20 years later.

Michelle is always so gracious when talking about her joining DC3. I truly think that she was exactly what they needed, and really was vital to the group's success. She deserves all of the great things that come her way.

@JCole-fg3rr um, if she wouldn't have worked out like Farrah, they would've fell off. They were a joke for a while after the 2 new members but if both quit/got fired that would've killed the group. Michelle had to make it work and apparently it wasn't easy look at Farrah. Not everyone can make the cut in the industry. Hence she saved them.

Correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t their first album come out in February of 1998? I mean their first song was on the men in Black soundtrack that came out in 1997. I’m so confused on what is this 25th anniversary that everybody keeps referring to? Are they talking about the writing on the wall album at released in July 1999
@@soubeautiful7066 the group was actually made official in 1996, so its even earlier! but michelle joined in 2000, so it'll be her 25th anniversary, and since letoya and latavia werent on very great terms with kelly and bey until very recently, a lot of fans think michelles 25th would be a good "excuse" for all 5 to come together again, since they couldnt for the OG anniversary (+ it was the middle of a pandemic)
Michelle gave new life to Destiny's Child.
I fell in love with Michelle the minute I saw the Say My Name video on TRL. A little bit of time went on with them as a reshuffled group. But I kept scratching my head, feeling that they needed to be trio lol. Next thing you know, it was announced they’d be a trio. And I was excited about it, because I knew it would work better for them! They had some parallels to The Supremes (and so love that trio). - when the girls did solo projects in 2002, Michelle released her inspirational album, and it got me through school and nurtured my spirit! I wish you asked if she’d do another album soon, I’d really love another album. I have all of her albums!

Michelle survived because she was a team player and Farrah was more concerned about her luggage.
Farrah couldn't sing in the first place. She was an extra on the Bills bills bills mv. That's how she got on. Michelle was a backup singer for Monica on her tour. She could always sing down and her bond with Beyoncé and Kelly was from jump. I think she really was meant to be

Decent interview but a few missed opportunities. Michelle had 2 solo albums AFTER the group was over, but the interview didn’t ask anything about that 😫. Nor did she ask if she’s currently working on any music for herself, working on or writing anything for any other artists. And all those Destiny’s Child questions but didn’t ask how it was being in a room with ALL the members of the group at Beyoncé’s concert late last year.
