- THE FOCUS OF THE STORY
How do we know what children know well and what they need to learn to become efficient and effective readers? We use data! Now that we know the components of reading instruction, we’ll look at how to tell if children are mastering what they are being taught. It’s not just about making progress, it’s about making enough progress and using what is learned in actual reading. Our children’s data tells a story. Is it a good one? Let’s find out!
LEARNING TARGETS
Describe what data are needed to know how children are progressing in learning to read
Explain the difference between “making progress” and “making enough progress”
Explain what to ask about “grades”
