    I love how even after all the 1000's of rocks you guys have pulled out of the ground, you still get excited about every single one. I hope someday I can have a job I love that much.

    When i see the raw selenite and then look at my polished up selenite wand, I truly understand how magical these little guys are! They’re so good at capturing and reflecting light. Such beautiful work that nature does.

    • @MrAmethystguy
      @MrAmethystguy 5 лет назад +2

      South Dakota selenite wands are not polished or made of "satin spar" gypsum(technically not selenite since its not clear), and they are double terminated floater crystals with record keeper growth lines.
      I will say though, this Oklahoma selenite he dug, is fantastic. I have seen a good amount of these sold, and each one was unique and special in its own way. Like mother natures "windows". Its my favorite selenite of all...the stuff in this video

    While walking through my neighbors yard showing it to a potential tenant for my landlord something shiny caught my eye. It was a very well etched Selenite crystal. Not very big but it has awesome details and pretty good clarity. It made my day to find it laying literally in the grass.

    • @ginfonte3386
      @ginfonte3386 6 лет назад +1

      Johnmighty;D selenite is an evaporite. As a lake bed evaporates, the calcium sulfate dissolved in the water becomes more concentrated. When it reaches a critical point, it crystalizes out of solution. So you might say the surface falls away from the crystal. This layer may subsequently be buried.

    Lived in OK for most of my child and teenage years. While it's rare to find completely clear ones you can find the hour glass selenite or commonly refered to as mudslide selenite all over not to mention lots of dessert rose if anyone is interested its all over just talk to the people in the town's. That's how I got my collection started.

      You would use this stuff...it would scratch, flake, and chip all the time. Being that a fingernail easily scratches gypsum, especially clear/colorless selenite, so its not wise to handle or place things on it

    I am so crazy in love with Selenite that it actually made me flinch to see pieces tossed aside (I mean, you can't take the hill back with ya lol) pieces being stepped on, falling, etc. I think I'd lug a giant wagon or huge sacks etc and fill em to the brim. If it took me two days to get back, so be it. I'm convinced this is exactly what a huge corner of MY Heaven looks like. Love love love

    I found a spot like this south of Sunrise Mountain in Las Vegas years ago... so much selenite you couldn't possibly choose what to keep. It was a very thick vein and produced some large water-clear massive slabs plus tons of smaller terminated crystals. I'm sure by now it's been converted to a subdivision, but it was a nice way to kill an afternoon when I lived there.

    We have some here in NV.. Very beautiful and often sheer like layers of thin glass with wispy clouds. Cut a cabochon and ended up sealing the back and edges with epoxy before wire wrapping.
    BTW.. Rockhounding tips: 1 - always take a backpack. 2 - always wear gloves. 3- take along a rock pick. And watch out for those critters!

    Have you been to the salt flats in Oklahoma to dig for the hourglass selenite? My Dad is from Oklahoma, and we used to do that as kids. I wish I knew what happened to all of mine. I live in North Texas, so maybe a road trip is in order! Also, there are the Gloss Mountains in Oklahoma. Some call them Glass Mountains. I believe it is gypsum there as well that makes them sparkle.

    Im curious how costly is your traveling to all these amazing mine locations? I live in connecticut and locally most of the mines are shut down and I havent had much luck finding more than quartzite in local forests but my entire life have dreamed of hunting crystals and gemstones but have always been worroed about the cost of travel. I was also wondering if you sell your crystals and gemstones online anywhere? For me I go to an expo inmassachusettes to find cool gems from around the world but locally there arent many places to hunt

    i know what this is like haha. I had about 2kg of selenite from spain (though, selenite is usually the name for the prismatic crystals rather than the rhombohedral ones). once you find a few crystal clear ones, you become a lot more picky. the semi amorph plates are rather worthless anyway. gypsum is SO abundant but nice crystals stay fun :)

      2. Maintain their original form or Fragment them place in special glass jars. 3. Make pedestals and stand the angel wings vertical and place against mirrored walls or curio cabinets with your family glass ware, silver, pictures. Laminate picture frames with the shards, etc. use your imagination OK!

      NewHobby, to answer your question with a question...... u need to ask yourself...."Why do people collect Paintings or Sculptures? What is the purpose and/or benefit of them?
      There is an answer for you....lol.
      Crystals and Mineral specimens are Mother natures "sculptures", ya know. Frankly, I find them more appealing, unique, and rare, than some marble statue by Michelangelo(I've seen the statue "David" in person, while in Florence....meh...), or some tarnished bronze figurine by Rodin or Balzac....all considered priceless in the art world.
      All made by Man's use of hands and manipulation of tools...meh...so what...anyone can take 3-D art in high school and pop out "art" all day long....
      Skilled artisans can copy and replicate any art work or Sculpture....
      Many impressive things in art and scultures....when compared to itself...however, when compared to "natures mathematical sculptures"....ie. Mineral Crystal Specimens.... well, then the hand of Man, and its creations(artwork), seem much less extraordinary and significant.
      Mineral specimens are one of a kind.... no one else has the same one you have.

      Also ....oftentimes the different mineral crystals are used to cut into gemstones ....that's another reason.....some folks use them for spiritual purposes, as well.

    You want to hunt selenite come to Utah. I have crystals on my mine of two feet long that are terminated. Also is uv reactive selenite. It is golden and phantom included with anhydrous inclusions. Have found Elestial and double terminations as well. Have also found gemmy clusters.

    They sell these little cloth type wagons for carrying your stuff when you go to the beach, but I imagine they would’ve really helped you carry home more stuff here. My family and I have one and we call it the “McWagon”
